im kinda surprised that so many people are ok with that.

so if your sister or mom told you she was a stripper or an escort (i think it's just another word for prostitute) you wouldnt have any problems with it, you'd be glad they finally found a line of work that suits their tastes, right ?

do you watch/consume pornography ?

XBOX - RECORD ME LOVING DOWN MY WOMAN GOOD
don't see a problem. People are overreacting once more to the gender issue at play. If these were guys that were hired would it be a problem for anyone? No.

I hired women to party for my friends bachelor party. They also took off their clothes and drank and spoke/interacted with is. It was other job.

This sudden surge in faux anger all of a sudden by gamers and the "treatment" of women is ludicrous. There are issues to fix, but once again this is not one of them. Pick your battles better.

Games Industry continues to be sleazy. This should not be happening in any work orientated event. Social or otherwise.
Company wants to put on a fun party.
Company knows that a sausage fest is not a fun party.
Company offers money and free drinks to pretty girls to come to a party.

I too see this thread almost as a "jumping the shark" moment with the way many gamers have been viewing gender issues lately, like this outrage is what it all has led to.

If someone paid me 300 dollars an hour to have my tits carelessly leered at by a bunch of middle-aged producers, investors and nerds, I'd call that a pretty good day's work. Many porn stars are paid less than that.

And...............

Like......what's there to be mad at? Was someone assaulted? Raped.....

Am I missing something.

So they paid some broads to socialize, act like their having fun and well, just to be there. So what?

I'm a little confused.

People are angry because women were payed to be at the party or because there were some women at the party ?

Holy shit, all you people up in arms. Look at the fucking party. It's no different than any other nightclub or dance party.

Yeah, it's not exactly women hanging out of poles...it is more a big dance party and it is easier for paid dancers to just fall into the background. However some in the VIP area (which I guess isn't the big crowded pit) were suggesting that it was rather pumped-to-the-gills with hired women, and all I would ask is whether setups like that telegraph to female attendees whether this is a party for them or not. To be very clear, I'm not 'white-knighting' for the dancers - fair play to them, I hope they made good money. I'm wondering what other female attendees in the VIP area made of it, if was as brimful with hired ladies as suggested. I'd guess at the very least it was another 'oh, here's one for the boys' eye-roll moment.

If you look really closely you will notice women have shackles on their ankles and sending video messages for help.

The faux moralism and recent sexism debate in the gaming industry is actually more disgusting than the actual context involved.

I have a friend who got a job via the modelling agency they worked for. It was to attend events for a political party.

Hired to help make the event a friendly atmosphere where conversations could be held freely and warmly. Was not hired to dance, but did so anyway out of fun. Nothing lewd, illegal, or sexual was part of this.

My friend did this as a side job, while working on a degree for micro-biology.

Yes Roger had a fine time at a party that came out of the National Women’s Conference and the £150 he was paid to do it. Shame he couldn't know the awful truth this thread has revealed, that we should just feel pity for this man being taken advantage of to help give the image that young male Brits were involved in politics and supporting women, when instead he could have been at home getting a degree in ... wait.

Honestly, we have a lot of issues and actual problems of inappropriate behaviour toward women, but this bloody hell isn't one of them real or not. However I think it might help to have a proper discussion on what is actually harmful toward women and men in this industry.

Ok it does look bad on Notch, especially given recent events but this is different from the IGDA thing, this was a private event.

Not enough context is provided. I take this "news" as Mojang hired some women via an entertainment agency to socialize and dance at his party in order to prevent it from being a giant sausage party. These women aren't there against their will. Nobody is being forced against their will and I'm pretty sure you wouldn't mind working the same gig if you got paid those kind of hourly fees.

This sounds like a bunch of ridiculous internet white knighting.

My thoughts exactly.

What? A party with pretty people being paid to be pretty and socialize?

That's every "official" party I've ever known. Club openings. Big company parties. Industry parties. Do you think everyone in the Oscars was invited there? Clubs themselves have people on payroll for exactly that reason. There are agencies for that thing. When you go to a venue to organize a party it is among the options you have. A friend of mine would do this on weekends for extra income.

Is this not a thing in the US? Why is everyone acting so shocked? It's not like Notch trawled bus stops for teenage runaways, drugged them and then threw them to a bunch of geeks.
Basically this. I have to think that most outraged people in this thread simply are not aware of the common practice at most every industry party in male-dominated industries.

I'm not saying that it is ideal, but somehow being incredibly outraged and particularly blaming the gaming industry for this minor ill in our society (if you want to call it such) seems, well, quixotic. Particularly since what allegedly happened here seems utterly harmless compared to what was related to me about corporate parties in the finance or business consulting sectors.

How does it being "the norm" make it okay? Are you people not fucking human beings?
This, in particular, is completely and utterly jumping the shark.

Why are you setting the bar as low as possible?

"There are some real pieces of shit out there. We didn't quite hit them. YAY!"

Not how I want to conduct myself or assess the conduct of others.

Hiring women through an agency to dance and socialise and generally make the event/party an enjoyable experience. It's disgusting is what it is.
