Kotaku Rumor: Microsoft 6 months behind in game production for X720 [Pastebin = Ban]

I'm not a big fan of third party exclusives for any platform... i'd rather make the decision of what platform I play something on than a publisher decide for me because of money hats. But i'm especially shy about getting excited about a microsoft platform because of third party exclusives after this gen when they went after them hard for about two years and then basically became a DLC beta testing ground.

Same here. I wish all the platform holders relied only on their own content, developed by their own studios. Not going to happen as long as one of them is behind in that regard.

Even then, why would a multi dev know about all the internal projects? If some of those projects are scrapped, why not name them?

Developers talk to each other. A lot. It's likely that people who were working on a scrapped project are now working somewhere else anyway.

What are some big indie developers open for money hats?

Insomniac?

Gearbox?

There was that rumour they where working with IO interactive but it got canned. Maybe they have a Edios game in the bag?

I personally have heard a rumor that Insomniac doesn't even possess a ps4 dev kit. I have no idea if that's true or not, but I've heard twice now. I think they had a pretty huge falling out with Sony. Bummer as I loved their work together.

I wonder WTF ever happened to the Vita version of R+C FFA? It was supposed to come out in january...

All is going according to Kaz's plan.

depends if it's a timed exclusive or a forever exclusive. Remember how much MS spent on the GTA4 DLC alone? That was redonk. Not sure if that was confirmed or BS though. Either way, expensive.

Wasn't that a loan that is something completely different then buying up a game.

Were people really expecting a ton of exclusives on the next MS console? I mean really? When you're at the mercy of MS's limited first party you run the risk of an underdeveloped launch.

lol, has there even been a positive rumor for the NextBox? Nothing but doom and gloom. I'm not sure how to feel about this latest rumor.

But a project getting scrapped doesn't mean that MS is behind on other stuff. Just that the project that got scrapped wasn't worth their continued investment. If they needed more software, they wouldn't scrap it, but instead cut things and rush it out.

A multiplatform dev wouldn't know much about hardware development at all, maybe a little because of some rough roadmaps but I imagine both are still tight lipped on a lot of that, let alone first party software development.

I have had a person tell me pretty intimate things about both systems, so far with PS4 they're 100%. If they are correct about Durango as well then it would mean its not that rare a situation.

I'm calling bullshit on this. Rare, Lionhead have been working on software for years and I'd assume it's all aimed at next gen. Ruffian, Remedy as well, they've been years in development for what I'm assuming is Durango related games.

They're not currently working on any Microsoft exclusives, as far as I know. Certainly not Crackdown 3.

Especially when they've apparently been planning a successor console since 2010. I can see titles not meeting their expectations and being delayed/scrapped. I just don't understand the sense of scrambling to put some kind of launch window list together given how many studios under their banner must be in full operation for next-gen.

Look at the Wii u... Pretty sure they plan it way ahead of time, but look at the games. LOL

this makes me think that Respawn's game WILL be timed-exclusive. it would be a bad business decision to go full-exclusive with a new generation console this early considering they JUST formed and are releasing their first game since parting ways with CoD/activision.

Meh just secure the third party games. Whoever has the best exclusives will get my money. I don't really care for Sony's or Microsofts 1st party offerings. Maybe Sony's sometimes...

seriously, how the FUCK did we get here. Wasn't it a year ago we heard that Ps4 might not make it this year and MS was going to have another release lead? I thought there were even stories about the the chips being behind production.

Also it's not exactly farfetched that a developer with a third-party dev would be privy to some info from friends in first-party development.

I can't help but thinking that sony's announcement really threw Microsoft for a loop. I also believe that they made some last minute changes.
