I think you're misunderstanding my point a bit.

Big, exclusive releases from the publishers I named, comparable to PSP's top sellers, would probably sell quite well on Vita and move hardware in large quantities. But such support hasn't materialized, and there's no indication that it will.

And i'm telling you there is no reason it doesn't, it's simple math ;) If you're telling me there is no sign of it right now, I'll tell you ok, you're right. If you're telling me there is no reason why it would change, that's where i disagree.

But that's the thing about Sony games they never sell that much usually 1-3 million at best with few exceptions and individually don't sell consoles in mass, but combined they sell A LOT of games and a shit ton of consoles, this has been the case going all the way back to the PS1 ans PS2. See people take the Nintendo method of selling consoles as gospel and that's the problem, that's why most are confused why Sony keeps doing what they do, it wasn't the 5 games that broke 10 million that sold 150million ps2s nor was it the 20 that broke 4 million, it was the over 300 that just sold a million or 2 that did it. That's what constitutes a "library" at a least on Sony's hardware
Exactly.

It's way too early to count up million-sellers on the Vita of course. But the point was, to provide a software kick to go along with a price cut, "that one game that does it" is the wrong approach, and probably not the one Sony would take, considering they have many studios. They can do multiple titles in different genres to complement each other, to provide a broader appeal than one single title could ever do, and to mitigate the risks of "that one game" not turning out as well as hoped.

Tearaway is significant because it gives you the full tour of the Vita's control options, along with an inclusive art style. It's an important game to have on the platform one way or another. That doesn't mean it will sell systems all by itself. It most likely won't. But then you have one need covered. Add a shooter, some character action, plus a racer or something, and you can have a measurable combined effect.

How many exclusive games is Sony developing on Vita? Tearaway, Killzone and Invizimals. That's really a poor effort, also considering that they don't have a strong third party offering. All I see is a company focused on PS4, where all its main teams are working, and not so much effort on Vita. We're approaching the second half of the year, and the first party has barely three games on the platform...

So... wait for TGS, then? Didn't we just go through this last year?

Well, hope springs eternal, I guess.

That works as long as the third-party support is there, but there's nothing announced for Vita in Japan that's likely to break 150K retail.

I'm still trying to figure out where this amazing Vita recovery happened. The system still has an abysmal lineup for the rest of the year and you won't see any of the effects of the recent bump in sales turn into actual games for a long time as developers don't make games in 5 months, and this is all assuming that raising sales to a whopping 15-20k a week is enough for publishers to change their mind about developing bigger games for the platform.

So... wait for TGS, then? Didn't we just go through this last year?

Well, hope springs eternal, I guess.

In terms of Japanese support I'm still trying to see where this great optimism is coming from. As far as I know the only recent Japanese announcement was Corpse Party.

I'd be super surprised if this was the final price for the rest of the vita's lifetime, even in Japan.

As does doom apparently.

It's pretty obvious Sony hasn't revealed everything it has planned for the Vita yet.

See that's the difference between commenting simple facts and expressing the desire to see something happen. I'm telling you you have no logical reason to tell me big devs would have no economical reason to release games on Vita, and you can't answer shit.

At least one of the two has actual supporting evidence besides wishing something would happen.

Lol, you post as if the claims made are fully backed up and the other is not at all when it's just both sides reaching.

Yeah I'm sure they have a 3rd party NDA in place that's just as strong as the Wii U NDA.

Well, i'm just saying it's obvious because it would be ridiculous to leave it like it is going on last years sales unless they really are making some sort of killing on memory cards and that is somehow enough for them to keep going as they have been. They learnt from last years e3 with subsequent presentations, we have good reason to suspect GR2 is in development as well.

Maybe not a tonne of of third-parties but one or two unannounced wouldn't be out of the question. Probably not many more first-parties either but no new announcements...even I'd be shaming them for that.

See that's the difference between commenting simple facts and expressing the desire to see something happen.

So then why are you posting this in a sales thread?
Lol, you post as if the claims made are fully backed up and the other is not at all.

There is not a shred of evidence supporting the idea major 3rd party developers will start putting bigger games on Vita. It's a simple wish. Now this is not to say there is no chance of said wish happening, but there is no evidence for it. See this where the nice easy to find line of being realistic vs DOOOOM comes in.

Holy shit Vita actually rose lol. Great show.

WiiU ain't got anything before June that will have an impact. Its going to be painful.

July.

Wii U in June

06/06 Injustice: Kamigami no Gekitotsu
Rabbids Land
06/27 F1 Race Stars: Powered Up Edition

Even Pikmin 3 will not be a long term system seller, and Wii Fit U when it does come will probably be as big of a bomb relatively as Game and Wario which brings us to waiting basically until the fall for any kind of meaningful change in the system's trajectory. Complete and total disaster.

See that's the difference between commenting simple facts and expressing the desire to see something happen. I'm telling you you have no logical reason to tell me big devs would have no economical reason to release games on Vita, and you can't answer shit.

Extraordinarily weak pre-launch announced support, over a year of terrible sales (with, to be fair, one month of good to decent sales and another month of merely weak sales), and no post-launch third-party announcements beyond multiplatform and niche titles. If that's not a logical reason for not expecting a complete or near-complete 180 in support from the major third parties, I don't know what is.

There is one thing, and it's the evidence, with numbers, that bigger games on Vita would be economically viable. 7-8 month ago, you could tell me this wasn't true, but this is now. So, the only thing we're debating thee is. Does the situation progressed ? Yes. Is there still a possibility or success ? yes.

Earlier, i would have tell you myself, if there is right now no reason for a company to put any selling franchise on the vita, it's going to die, or to be really niche. But that's not the case right now.

I didn't say that. Again, why pretend the psp was the hottest thing and had crazy things from the start or even later. The psp had "big" titles from the thirds, but you know, no DQ, lots of spinoff from square.. I'm not expecting FFXV on it, but more hoping (see, hoping!) things like bravely default or sequel to psp titles, dissidia, maybe a FF remake, maybe a sequel to Crisis Core you know..

Well the results of the Soul Sacrifice + pricedrop in Japan are only just coming in now, if we expected there to be change, you wouldn't be expecting it to suddenly materialize now.

Nor can we expect Sony to reveal major games/partnerships before E3 er TGS.

I'm obviously not saying third parties are flocking to the Vita but to imply that it's foolish to expect it to be possible, is itself foolish. Which is always my stance when talking with F_B. When orioto says:

And i'm telling you there is no reason it doesn't, it's simple math ;) If you're telling me there is no sign of it right now, I'll tell you ok, you're right. If you're telling me there is no reason why it would change, that's where i disagree.

Third parties tomorrow can think next-gen costs are too expensive, 3DS can't run the games, PS3 is too stale and has high competition, vita it is. There are millions of reasons for the Vita to takeover. True it hasn't shown to performing or attracting publishers well enough but to think that's it - because of current sales. "fucking lol."

--I agree with feint_ruled below, been thinking a similar thing and with Nintendo spraying games all over the 3DS and leaving the Wii U dry, you sort of expect there to be an upcoming switch as well.

All we have to go on are historical trends. And it certainly seems like the 3DS and Vita are playing out the same as the DS and PSP before them. The Nintendo handheld surges into an early lead but as games become more technically demanding the Sony handheld undergoes a late resurgence (even if that did take many years!)

The next gen consoles will drive gamers expectations forward, just as the HD consoles did. People have an expectation that their handheld games will at least remain within spitting distance of their big brothers from a technical standpoint.

The big question last year was whether the Vita could stay alive long enough to allow this to happen. Maybe there was a question about this then, but I think it is in a much better place now.

It's obvious that the Vita isn't suddenly going to have a star-studded library. That said, I think it's daft to suggest that the unit looks no more attractive to third parties than it did 3 months ago.

We won't see any 'proof' either way for a while, sadly.

3rd parties are already hesitant to put more games on the 3DS because of western sales and the growing iOS market. The best chance Vita has is if the PS4 fails out of the gate and it can get some big PS3 ports. But when Capcom is literally not put a Revelations port on the system when its even going to Wii U how in the world can you say there is a big chance 3rd parties start focusing on Vita. Now, yes I agree that if Vita gets the games it could have a good shot at selling them, but major 3rd parties aren't interested in just selling games these days, they want huge hits. The level of support the 3ds is getting does not match it's sales and people expect major games for Vita when it's barely selling 20k this week?

Guys I'm confused. I thought Vita was supposed to be at 10k or below by now.

I believe you were the one who based people for their lower predictions for Vita sales through April so you have no room to criticize anyone.

That said, I think it's daft to suggest that the unit looks no more attractive to third parties than it did 3 months ago.

Who's debating this? It's a simple fact just due to it not selling 8k a week alone. To suggest that it being more attractive isn't really enough to result in Vita becoming the next PSP is the argument.

Hence why I dont see why Iwata made that sales forecast. He has made a forecast when he has nothing at all until June which will see the systems sales get any kind of sales bump and that game wont do much for the Hardware anyway.

Really? The 3DS is nowhere near current gen consoles and is doing just fine!!!

I know it is early but isn't it beginning to look more likely based on the Wii U disaster that PS4 is gonna be the only relevant console in Japan?

i still say that the current situation has a very strong feel of deja vu to N64.

PS4 is likely to struggle out of the gate in Japan. No backwards compatibility at a time when it seems like Japan is finally making headway on PS3 development. It'll recover eventually due to the big international oriented Japanese franchises.

I'd wait to see the JPN launch lineup first. There certainly seems to be a hole that the PS4 cold fill with a decent lineup unless the market really has contracted that much.

That's overly harsh. MH3U 3DS is cross-play with the Wii U one, for example. They provide a comparable experience, for now.

But if the new hotness in Monster Hunter 2017, say, turns out to be to have 16 players facing off against 8 monsters, the 3DS is no longer going to be able to cut it. (Vita might be able to do 12 players versus 4 monsters though ;-)

The Wii U doesn't have a shred of 3rd party support in Japan at this point. The PS4 won't have that problem, at least not to this level. It may struggle, but I don't see these kind of sales coming unless the launch lineup is just terrible.

Well, Wii U sold well in the first weeks. Let's see which kind of support PS4 will have. What I fear is a mainly Western-oriented line-up. Sony is out of the question, considering what he presented. I think Japanese might be fine with PS3 for another couple of years. It still has room for selling by cutting the price. Small software entries are more common now on PS3 also.

I don't think this is true at all and i'm not sure what you're basing it on. The release of the HD consoles didn't stop the DS from selling at incredible levels so i'm kinda baffled exactly what you're basing this on.

With the WiiU floundering PS4 definitely has a good chance in dominating the console sector. FF,GT6,MGS year 1 would guarantee this imo.

MGS hasn't been announced for PS4 yet.
FF XV is just a rumour for now.
GT6 unveiling is also rumoured.

Interesting to see how things turn out.

Wonder if that had anything to do with the Square Enix label.

For PS3. Why would Sony kill their own new driving IP at launch for PS4 with GT6 even in the same area. MGS is likely to come to PS4. That Versus rumor is probably true, although with the way things have gone it might not even be year 1.

The true question for PS3 is will get Tales, Yakuzas, One Pieces, etc. of the world

PS4 will have Yakuza, Final Fantasy, Dynasty Warriors, Metal Gear, Dragon's Dogma, Dark Souls, Tales, etc. but the question is what form that support will take in the first two years. Outside of Dragon's Dogma, and Yakuza I'd expect a lot of cross-gen releases. I'm not sure Japan will be interested in dropping 40k yen for games they could play on a device that'll surely cost 20k yen by then.

Yes.

PS3 => PS4 transition will mirror PSP => PSVita in Japan. There are many relevant similarities, most notably lack of physical backwards compatibility. And most likely the same huge initial price difference. External pressure from a booming competing system OTOH, not so much.

IOW expect a very slow first couple years, a schedule filled with semi-regular software releases that all fall short to be true breakout hits, and only price drops and the slow decline of the predecessor providing any momentum.

Yeah except you missed the biggest reason on why PS Vita is failing which is its lack of third party support or veen first party support.

PS4 is in unknown territory right especially as we don not know the games, or the price two massive factors.
