This man has an opinion which I do not like. This is an outrage.
Phil will never make a game a quarter as good as Dark Souls. His games just suck.
Phil Fish is a victim of Phil Fish running his mouth. It's time for him to shut up and let his game (which is great if you don't have to deal with the bugs) do the talking.
Unless he's Japanese.
Yeah, he definitely would've been better off if he let it go, but I don't see anything wrong with him shutting up someone who's willfully trolling. If it had been someone other than Phil, the Internet would've had his back for doing that (see: "do you eat shit?"), but instead it blew up into OMG PHIL FISH TOLD SOMEONE TO CHOKE ON HIS DICK because ripping on him is almost a meme at this point.

He could have easily done that with the Steam release. Many people had probably forgotten or just didn't know about his previous outbursts by the time Fez went up on Steam. But no, he just couldn't resist going into the Steam forums as a representative of Fez and talking some shit to his potential customers.
How can this and Kamiya's "do you eat shit?" comment be compared at all? I'd really like to hear the logic for that. Please keep the context in mind when doing so.

I think you're vastly overestimating how much people actually care about his negative opinion toward Japanese games. It's more about how he just presents himself as a rude asshole, a braggart, and a generally unpleasant person who is very vocal.

Honestly all it would/should take is a tweet from him saying, "Everyone. I've been a dick. Sorry." then taking a break from twitter for awhile. He can keep his trolling streetcred though if he backpedals like a champ.
Talented game dev who can't argue for shit attracts the ire of "angry gaijins". Keeps poking them and gets some more. Tries to rub his "success" on Steam in their face and finds another shitbowl on his table. And now he cries because nobody likes him.

It did spark off discussion about the surprising level of ignorance some western devs can possess towards japanese devloped games, so yeah, I'd say it was worth.

The Meatboy guys are the only people I liked in that documentary.
Fish's attitude problems now make me think there was more to his story than what the documentary went into. Blow's attitude towards feedback (good and bad) is sort of off-putting.
I just don't get why people give him so much attention if they hate what he says.

lol at this constant "potential customers" nonsense. He's not obligated to suck up to every last toolbag on the internet just because they might buy his game. Especially when they're publicly flaunting the fact that they're pirating or boycotting it and are clearly not "customers" anyway.
Both sides are immature and silly. When you provoke detractors you perpetuate the cycle, don't be surprised when you get more negative attention.
Phil Fish should just lighten the Internet Bat Signal up and hope that bats has some time for the Internet Bully Gang tonight.

What he said hardly amounted to anything substantial on the subject. It was no more revelatory than a typical 4chan post in a western games vs eastern games topic. At most you can fill in the blanks (right down to the essence of what he was suppose to be saying) with an argument you agree with. Which reminds me how petty you look: "Leave Fish alone! He is right about Japanese games sucking anyway you weeaboos, btw Fez rocks".
What got people talking was where and who he said that to. Off the top of my head I can't think of a more asshole-ish thing any other developer has done in public. Then you have Fish's troubled history since then.

Some guy gains a podium to speak his opinion, makes a statement that would naturally be considered ignorant to all but the players most oblivious to the gaming landscape, and this is somehow all you need to get your laughter on.

I'm pretty sure I had a post in this thread back when he originally said it, but I've warmed up to him a little since then, mainly from seeing him on the Bombcast, coupled with just not being able to take him very seriously. I'm playing through Fez right now and it really is a fantastic little thing, maybe top 5 I've played in recent years. Bummer to see he's starting to feel the weight of the dogpile, but I wouldn't deign to tell anyone to lay off him.

People can say what they want all they like. But they better be prepared to face a backlash of annoyed people when he's an asshole to others.
Kotaku writes a troll article ripping on Kamiya and co. for some clicks and Kamiya shuts them up over Twitter.
Agent MST makes a troll tweet ripping on Phil Fish for some sort of forum pride and Phil shuts him up over Twitter.
Am I missing something here? Serious question. My Twitter-feudology isn't quite up to par with most people here. I guess the context really depends on whether you think Kotaku was conscious of how wrong they were and just did it for clicks or if they actually just messed up.

I think he keeps saying dumb things because there's an audience waiting for him to say dumb things. No publicity like bad publicity. I'm not implying that he's a mastermind or he doesn't believe anything he says. I just think the controversy is both parties feeding off each other.
If people didn't get so riled up every time Fish said something stupid, I doubt he'd make all these incendiary comments. The guy went to Steam to boast about preorder sales to people calling for boycotts, after all. I bet the proliferation of that screenshot garnered more Fez awareness and sales.
There are plenty of other things, even within the gaming industry, by which to be more irritated than what Phil Fish says. Sorry if I sound pedantic or patronizing - that's not my intent. I just sincerely mean I think it'd be best for everyone to chill out and not become so inflamed over things. Fish behaves this way because people are looking at him. When the heads turn away the silly behavior will simmer down.
