The percentage in MS PR is include WiiU.

360>ps3>100k>50k>Wii>40k>WiiU>30k

I mean....fucking hell.

Personal guestimate.

360 = 130K -38% M/M weekly average
PS3 = 103K -39% M/M
WII = 42K -42% M/M
WIU = 36K -33% M/M

=> average -38% M/M
=> PS3+Wii+Wii U = 311K = ~58%

Oh JVM did it better with more platforms. Forgot about the handhelds.

EDIT: were NPD talking about a per platform M/M change or a total units M/M change?

At this point the portable hardware market is headed towards complete ruins outside of a few Nintendo hits. Relaunching Vita would be a waste of money.

It's like I said: people increasingly don't need gaming dedicated handheld hardware. They have phones and tablets and laptops; systems like 3DS and Vita are more and more pointless in such a culture.

It remains to be seen if this will flow into the console sector, if people will just consider them superfluous as well, but so far handhelds definitely look like they're hanging from a thread. If it wasn't for Japan and Pokemon, prospects would seem relatively dire.

I'm surprised it did that well considering there were no major releases for it in April. It's probably going to do as well this month.

Man, can you believe 35k Wii U? I mean, staggering. Simply staggering.

Is it bad that I want to see both the Wii and Vita discontinued so I can buy them both as curiosities?

I do hope Sony and Nintendo rebound, but practically given away consoles feel so good.

Same reason why Nintendo isn't dropping the price on the WiiU. It needs fucking games if they want to have a lasting effect from the pricedrop. As long there isn't a healthy stream of releases the pricedrop would only result in a temporary spike.

Vita actually has games though.

I honestly don't see how new consoles are supposedly going to fix everything.

I don't either.

There are even people in this thread blaming Wii U and Vita for not providing a new experience for gamers. I still haven't seen how PS4/Nextbox are going to do that.

^This. Right now it looks like they are just letting the Wii U sell craptastically until Pikmin 3 and beyond. I doubt they're going to put much money into advertising until they start releasing software on a regular basis. What is in the "Fall and beyond" direct is very important because they need some pretty heavy hitters to pull off a revival.

Of course, the Wii U shouldn't be in this position to begin with... ;_;

but it came off of Monster Hunter Ultimate 3 and Lego City in late March.

I know the numbers are disappointing overall (good god the Vita), but if I expected more from any console it would have been the wiiU.

I don't understand why the 360 sells so well in the States but it seems to me it has a MS centric mind.

People keep saying it's due to no software. But didnt 360 and PS3 have spans of time when nothing good came out and they never came close to hitting 30k (I think someone said this month is 360's worst ever month at 130k).

I mean it's only going to get worse till Pikmin 3 drops. Christ. . .

My god, I hope this fucking system doesn't fucking suicide bomb the Pikmin franchise forever. I am seriously concerned :(

I fear so, so many impending Pikmin ghosts... purple and red and blue oh nooo

Vita actually has games though.

Let's not pretend like the general western market cares about anything on Vita outside of Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed and even then a significant portion of the sales came from bundles/
46k for Vita in July 2012.

(based on Nintendo's graph from NPD)

This month: 40k > Wii U > 33k

This might be the most disastrous launch for a console ever just in terms of the implications and expectations.

Not sure why people are dissing 50k. There's nothing wrong with it. Just because it sold less than 100k doesn't mean it's not doing well. It's doing as well as we had predicted.

I swear 50k fans must have wheels on their goalposts at this point. Next month, when 60k beats it, will you admit the truth? Or is that 'expected' as well?

By providing actual games. That is something Nintendo and the Wii U have failed at.

Are we gonna start hoping that our favorite franchises don't appear on the system in some twisted hope for a showing on a more promising console?

Maybe I can wait another four years for F-Zero...

Lego City was supposed to help. I wonder how much Nintendo sank on that one...

I saw my first WiiU ad since Winter Holiday during the Simpsons the other night. They're advertising it here at least. I think the game was Lego City.

Sony should just ditch the Vita and Nintendo the WiiU. After that they should merge and combine their efforts on the PS4 and 3DS!! Gaming saved!!!

God what a fuckin shitty month

I think we should start a pool for who misses their forecasts by more. 9 million for Wii U or 5 for PSP+Vita. I'm going with Wii U just because of how big that number is they could miss it by 4 million and and all Vita has to do is ship 1 million WW.

Edit: Once Vita is sub 10k stores aren't carrying it anymore. Complete waste of space.

I know it's purely ancedotal... but my local EB stores simply don't have space for the Vita anywhere. They have the console/memory-cards behind a glass cupboard behind the counter.

The games are with the PSP tower/basket... which was a sign that the PSP was well and truly dead. So yeah... mildly indicative of its performance.

"Some games that nobody cares about" is still better than the WiiU's current library.

I'm expecting Pikmin to have a pretty decent attach rate.

Here are months 3-6 for the 3DS:

Nintendo 3DS - 97K
3DS - 143,000
Nintendo 3DS: Lower weekly average than last month, meaning at best 114K, but it could be quite a bit lower.
3DS: Above 170K (last month minimum * 1.36 due to 36% increase from Nintendo PR), below 235K (last year). It is likely notably closer to 170K given Nintendo gave a specific percentage.

3DS in August is like three months of Wii U sales.

Wow that is disgustingly bad for Wii U. Even before it's drastic August pricecut, 3DS was still doing better than it.

I still can't completely agree, yet anyhow.

Handhelds in the west are historically "cheap fun".

Neither the 3DS, nor the Vita, fit the bill.

People predicted 50k because it's a low selling number, Wii U is doing terrible. People weren't making positive predictions.

I personally can't see Pikmin 3 being the holy savior of the Wii U that some people seem to be making it out to be right now.

Sure, I can definitely see people who already own a Wii U buying the game since they are starved for something new and fresh but I just can't see it driving sales for people on the outside who already own other, various consoles that much that it saves the console, at least temporarily. It is a fairly niche (closest word I can think of) game and it just doesn't have the brand recognition for the masses compared to lets say Mario or Zelda for example.
