GAF, we need to start a campaign for no used games/no DRM on the Xbox One

So this past day has shown GAF can have an impact on the industry. We do not know what Sony's plans will be, but at least we've seen somewhat of a response and people are taking notice. I think it's obvious used games have a positive impact on our industry in an in-direct way. Trade-in credit goes towards the purchase of new games, people borrow and complete games, and then spend money on the sequels. The overall health of the industry will be better and stronger if there is competition. We need the Xbox One and PS4 to push each other like this gen. I think we need to start a campaign to show Microsoft that they can't go in the direction it seems they currently plan to. If even if you do not plan on purchasing the Xbox One, or do not like their games, support this if you care about gaming.

I've compiled a list of twitter accounts of people in charge at Microsoft, and people who could at least maybe have some kind of impact on this. Use the hashtags #XboxOneUSEDGAMES #XboxOneNoDRM

Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft Studios

I wish this works, but I see it very unlikely with MS as opposed to Sony. MS already has a deal with EA, there's no way they're gonna back down even because of the backlash.

Oh my god. No we don't need to start a campaign. Used game DRM is the new Kony 2012.

They said everything was just being finalized so there maybe hope that they could somehow lessen the restriction that they will implement, but I think nobody would care for Microsoft at this point to put an effort into this. That's why I think everything's pretty one sided right now.

Companies don't listen to Twitter unless its mundane shit.

Sony and Microsoft aren't going to make decisions based on a vocal minority.

bish gets all the credit :)
They heard you loud and clear with Adam Orth.

The Sony one started because we heard they were still deciding how to proceed and that they were listening to what their customers were saying.

Could you please stop claiming people against DRM are a vocal minority? You are indirectly accusing most consumers of being complete idiots this way and that´s not nice.

I was about to post something like this in the PS4 thread.

When MS said this, they were just shit on. When Sony says it, there's a Twitter campaign.

Why not the same mentality for both?

Connect once very 24 hours drm? I can't see how EA isn't partially influential in this so the deal is probably sealed.

This movement really should have started after the Orth gate for both MS and Sony. I hope we can put even a small dent to their plans.

I kinda doubt that used game sales have a positive effect on the industry. Not that they don't have positive effects, I'm just not sure if they outweigh the negative ones.

Doesn't mean I agree with not allowing them.

This stuff is misguided.

People should be contacting the publishers who are putting the pressure on MS and Sony to include these DRM schemes. A vocal minority is small change compared to the kind of cash third party pubs bring in.

its not the same situation as sony and the ps4, microsoft seem to be locked in
This isn't really true.

It's all software DRM so can be changed very quickly.

No used games = less people with small income (aka kids and teens) on the system = Xbox Live back to the glorious first years

How are they not a vocal minority? It's not an insult at all; most people are unaware of this stuff.

I hate Microsoft and would rather see them take a wash. BTW this type of DRM on a console is just as stupid as paying for online multiplayer and lots of people went with that. Just buy a PS4.

This unfortunately seems like a lost cause from everything we know. We know Sony is wavering.

Who are they going to listen to? Big publishers that can make or break our console like Activision and EA or thousands of tweets from people that might even get the console anyway.

If MS and Sony say fuck you to EA what do you suppose they could do about it? Fuckin nothing.

It's annoying cause if either MS or Sony is on board it puts huge pressure for the other but together they can dictate pretty much anything when it comes to industry policies.

Well I suppose if Sony goes DRM free after all and manages to sell software comparable to DRM Xbone it would be pretty bad for publishers like EA.

Think about it, what was the benefit of MS locking used games? It doesn't affect them (unless they're publishing the game) but other publishers. The EA and MS deal must have revolved around DRM being implemented, hence the online pass system being scrapped.

Nah, I'm just not buying their console. I see nothing but downsides to it.

I'll just have to hope that Sony doesn't follow suit with this anti-consumer bullshit.

Didn't it turn out that the DRM wasn't even that bad?

You put your disc in another Xbox and you can't play it on yours until you put the disc back in right? Sounds pretty similar to now.

I would but i have a hard time believing they'd listen or change at this point. Their whole design of the console is almost around this criteria. They wanted to make retail games digital w/o trying to go digital only. I don't know how easy it'd be for them to change now

Besides, they know the stance with the Orth fiasco and after the reveal. So they shut down comments on youtube and Major Nelson unplugs for a couple days

AOC83 posts 100s of times in Xbox DRM threads slamming xbox, doesn't post at all in PS4 drm threads.

More like put your disc in your friends Xbox and a message pops up saying 'You have to pay $60 to play this game.'

Have you any proof for this claim? Most people that know of this ( and only those are relevant since you can´t have an opinion when you don´t have knowledge about something at all) will probably not agree with MS pissing on their property rights.

The more people become aware of this the more are going to complain. Just stop dismissing a legitimate concern with this "vocal minority " bullshit. It´s pathetic.

It's not dismissing. People who are going to take to Twitter or message boards are, by definition, the minority. They'll change their practices if they see real world implications.

Tweets are free.

maybe, but there has to be some sort of hardware involved for game shops so they have the ability to accept used games with microsoft's azure platform

i just dont see them shifting now
