New Crackdown incoming?

What's the deal with the fence?

I'm thinking this is a Kinect title...

Same to me, it kind of cursor flying on the screen and probably controlled with kinect.

Avalanche. BELIEVE.

Come on. They've publicly said they're working on both systems and even said the PS4 is clearly superior at this point. Someone with a first party exclusive contract isn't going to say any of the things they've said in the last few days.

That's right. Crackdown one was great. Crackdown 2 wasn't. It somehow took the wrong direction and lost all of its appeal.
Crackdown was one of those rare games that ended up hitting just the right cord from a gameplay standpoint to make it something really special. Crackdown 2 just didn't even have the same feeling to it. Realtime Worlds had found the same kind of design "click" that Miyamoto consistently finds with Mario titles, Bungie finds with shooters, or Relic finds with RTS games. That's a rare thing and no matter how someone tries to ape it there is very little chance of catching that lightning in a bottle again with a different developer or even the same developer with a different IP.

This is why MS' hesitancy to greenlight Crackdown 2, leaving Realtime Worlds to move on to other projects and subsequently crash and burn, pretty much knee capped the franchise. They'll have to come up with an entirely new developer who can find that same gameplay balance and tone, because Ruffian certainly couldn't and they had a portion of the original Realtime Worlds staff working on it.

I wasn't being entirely serious, but it's definitely not impossible. Their comments on the two platforms were actually quite neutral:

Edge said:
We asked Avalanche’s chief technical officer Linus Blomberg how the two consoles compare. “It’s difficult to say, as it’s still early days when it comes to drivers,” he told us. “With each new driver release, performance increases dramatically in some areas. The PlayStation 4 environment is definitely more mature currently, so Microsoft has some catching up to do. But I’m not too concerned about that as they traditionally have been very good in that area. The specs on paper would favour the PS4 over the Xbox One in terms of raw power, but there are many other factors involved so we’ll just have to wait and see a bit longer before making that judgment.”

Crack down 2 sucked mainly because it was the same city as the first game with new missions and big mutants thrown in. Part of the fun of the first game was exploring this humongous city. It really needs to go more super hero like with a new city imo and throw in multiplayer coop.

I'm glad I never played Crackdown 2. I hate that it's because my last 360 shit the bed shortly before it came out.

It always came down to the games. I'll be getting one of the systems at launch. Which one will depend on what games are available at launch. I'm loving the cartoony fantasy vibes I'm getting from some the possible Microsoft games. Let's hope Sony don't double down on shoot-bang with what they show.

I honestly have a feeling despite all the negative press, xbox one is going to show more and better looking exclusive games then sony shows at E3. along with revealing more things about the system and showing how 360 will be selling well for another 4 years.

Everyone complains that MS is abandoning games based on the amount of releases towards the end of the 360 lifecycle. All it really was is that they were focused on the next platform titles, and i hope it shows.

I don't think there's such thing as a Kinect game now. Since is packed on every Box, I think the like will be blurred more and more with the passage of time.

I hope this is true. I loved Crackdown. I bought it for the Halo 3 beta, but ended up barely even playing the beta because Crackdown was so fun.

I played the demo for the second one a few times and just couldn't get into it.

I always gathered Rare really wanted to make a Kameo sequel, they always seemed so hyped for the future of the franchise.

Yeah. It had sooo much potential as a new ip.
crackdown 1 wasn't perfect. There were things that could be improved. But the core was damn fun. Great fun with great nice co-op features.
I hope they can somehow recreate that vibe, build on the positives and improve on the small imperfections with adding some new stuff.
I agree that you'd have to be a great dev. Do be able to do that.

For as different the sequel looked, I would have liked to see where they would have taken it.

Slutland. Honestly, after getting over the initial pleasant shock for having seen her in such a radically different edition, I realized that I really didn't want to play in a realistic looking version of Kameo's world. The fairytale aesthetic was what made it so charming in the first place.

Then again, I am slightly curious about what it would look like.

Crackdown 2 was great. The game felt and played better than the original, and had an amazing soundtrack, but the city, different in many ways but far too unchanged in others, was a dissapointment. Fighting zombies exclusively as opposed to crazy gangsters and supercharged bosses was a mistake. However, Crackdown 2 is more orbs, more weapons, more vehicles (flying ones!), and just mo sandboxy fun.

Overall, it's well worth your time, especially if it's been several years since you've played a Crackdown game. (The OT for Crackdown 2 was pretty much the best OT ever, but it's been lost to the tinypic ether.)

It was in a prototype stage, I believe, but MS canned it when they restructured the studio. Had some to do with a focus on Kinect and that the original game didn't sell as well as hoped.

Phil Spencer suggested Rare is about to be let off the leash, so it will be interesting to see what they do. We know they have staffed up significantly over the last couple of years, so they have at least 2 teams now.

Personally, I believe we're going to see Kinect Sports 3/Resort because that series is a multi-million seller. I think the historic IP is going to be Killer Instinct or R.C. Pro-Am to fill gaps in the portfolio of a fighting game or a power-up/weapon racer.

Snap, I think with kinect being bundled in every box there is much less pressure for MS to obviously support it. I hope for a gen of more subtle Kinect stuff.

Anyone know who might be developing crackdown 3 because its not ruffian thank God! real time worlds are no more right? did ms get the old guys from there to work on it or is it someone else?

Exactly Kinect will be More supplemental and less mandatory. And since every single Xbox has one, it can he a key differentiator between multiconsole games. Like at the beginning of the generation when Achievements and the controller alone made Third party titles more interesting on the 360.

How do we know it's not Ruffian?

They've come out and said it isn't them.

Yeah, will be very interesting to see what gets more support from third partys, the PS4's touchpad or Kinect.

Crackdown 3, Kameo 2, and Perfect Dark 2 would clinch an insta preorder for me. I'm guessing one will happen so I can stick to my guns with a PS4 day one.

I think Ruffian could have done the job properly if they had the time and budget. They have a lot of ex-Real Time Worlds guys there.

Yep, they nailed the mechanics and introduced a lot of great new features, weapons and tweaks.

Would love to see what they could accomplish on a full budget and proper dev time.

That orb sound. Never forget.

Would love a new Crackdown game, even if i'm not fully committed to the Xbone yet it would be good to see one.

Loved the original Crackdown, but wasn't Crackdown 2 pretty poor?

Was like a data disk.
They should eveolve missions and background story.

A setting with a corporate like OCP from Robocop, gangs fighting in the streets, riots and some ED 209 thrown in should fit :)

I still can't believe people thought either of the Crackdown games were good, let alone a console seller. #mindblowing

Agreed. They were C-tier open world games with very poor gameplay & shooting mechanics.

I suppose there is an appeal to relatively shallow exploration, but that was about all that I found interesting with either title.
