MS marketing director: "We are going to kill Sony at E3!"

You overestimate their willingness to lose billions.

They're not willing to lose billions, but they're willing to speculate billions. They have money to throw at projects and they're not afraid to do so. Sony isn't in such an enviable position unfortunately although their focus for the coming gen seems focused.

We will kill them, with the power of kinect, the innovation of Television, and the awesome of Mattrick's smile.

Yes, Sony will be dead.

The trainwreck reaches day 9 :lol

They should be focused on saving themselves after that abomination of a console reveal.

In all honesty, the only thing I can see Microsoft killing Sony at E3 is announcing a cheaper console and Sony announces zero games at their conference.

If there are restrictions on used games, we can pretty safely assume Sony will be doing the same thing, regardless of what that is. MS isn't taking that trip alone. As far as connecting to the internet every 24 hours, how many people don't already do that? It's a pretty minor issue for the backlash it's prompted.

If we follow this logic, Sony should have had a paywall for playing online multiplayer already (closest thing we got is PSN+).

Do people see these third party exclusives as a good thing?

What if Fifa was exclusive to Xbox. Would you guys support MS for doing that?

My first thought would be what type of crazy money would Microsoft have moneyhatted for that to happen, EA's love of money would be too great to do that DRM or no.

What are other examples of 3rd console curse?
Sony of course (PS3)
And?

Nintendo? Third one should be N64 that was not a fail.
Sega? Saturn was owned by PSX indeed.

I think Nintendo 64 was a sales failure, and I think Nintedo feels the same. It came too late and sold a lot less than PlayStation, their greatest rival. (PS:105M - N64:35M)

They lost the third companies support and companies like Capcom, Konami or Square Soft focused their efforts in Sony's machine.

And it was because Yamauchi's pride.

Every EA game three months exclusive and GTA V exclusive confirmed.

EA 3 months exclusive is nonsense. Who wants a FIFA 14 or a MADDEN 14 in februrary 2014? The strong sales of those games are in november-december. I'm sure EA doesn't want to loose all the PS4 possible sales and I'm sure Microsoft can't buy that kind of exclusivity.

Well yeah.

Crackdown > Infamous
Gears > Uncharted
Viva Pinata > LBP
PGR > Motorstorm
Alan Wake > Heavy Rain

.

Well, all opinions are respectable, but those, er... No. Not even in dreams.

I am expecting no less from MS at E3 that they are not going to drop a regular bomb, but a NUCLEAR BOMB.

My predict:
Dead Rising 3 (exclusive)
Morror edge 2 (co publish, so exclusive on Xbox One)
FIFA 14 (3 months exclusive on xbox One)
COD Ghost (3 months exclusive on xbox One)
New Gears
Halo 5
Rare games (banjo kazooie and PD and Killing Instinct)
Just Cause 3
PGR 5
lots of other.

I think a lot of people misunderstood what MS said about FIFA 14. They said there would be exclusive content for that new mode they announced. If there was an exclusive deal where it came out only on XBoxOne for the first 3 months... the reveal would have been a great place to do it.

On a side note, if EA did do an exclusive deal where FIFA14 would not come out on PS4 for a few months... that would only confirm "some" EA haters that they don't care about the gamer. FIFA sold the best on PS3 especially in Europe, EA would be basically telling those fans to Deal With It. It would be like COD coming to PS4 exclusively for a few months... can you imagine the melt downs!

Must be some huge, last minute panic, exclusive. Or just a lot of DLC time exclusives lol.
Then again, it is insane what and how much of it MS people are saying these days.

Panic exclusive? Do you really think they just suddenly bought the 3rd party exclusive rights to a multiplatform games or had one of their new studios make one!? In the last two weeks? Because gaming msg boards freaked out? Really?

Anything announced at E3 is years in the making, not weeks.

If the games from this gen is any indicator even with hardware that was difficult to program for, I think Sony will do just fine again.

I see you have big dreams! Thats okey.
But whos gonna play those games? You always need to be connected! Well, you know the problem with that!

That was pretty arrogant on their behalf. It will be kind of funny if Microsoft's showcase is a complete failure, and Sony comes out even stronger after the E3 presentation.

It is exactly this kind of talk leading up to PS3 from Sony that turned me off to Sony. Microsoft, there are better ways to get out of the corner than this.

They are really digging Xbone a deeper grave. Whoever is running their PR campaign needs to tell these people to shut the hell up and release unified PR statements, instead of these cheap one or two line attempts to get people to notice them. This could be the PR firm telling these execs to do this, but if that is the case it is a horrible move.

I know they want to keep the machine in the press, but most of the people I have talked to get more disappointed with every new article they read. I know some people say no press is bad press be it good or bad, but given MS track record of crappy early console build quality, the bad press is horrible for the launch. After the whole RRoD screw up, bad press can cripple the launch of Xbone. Im kind of curious how much the RRoD situation will have on consumers interest of buying early models in fear of buying a poorly built console.

Due to the horrible reveal press conference. They will have to waste a lot of time easing peoples mind about Kinect2s privacy issue and go into more detail of its capability in gaming applications. Then they have to explain the used games mess and how used games will work on the system. They will have to go into detailed explanations of internet dependencies the Xbone has. Next they have to please Activision with considerable stage time for Call of Duty and its timed exclusive dlc. A small portion is saved to announce a few future sequels to Halo and Gears of War that are in development, but far off. We cant forget they will have to go over the TV aspects to show off the huge deal they signed with the NFL/ESPN and Steven Spielberg working on a Halo TV series. Finally with what little time they have left, then they will show off their "megaton" games/deals.

Just thinking about that kind of press conference is already boring me. I imagine more than half of their conference will be spent clarifying how the machine, Kinect2, used games, and how the other new hardware works in hopes of cleaning up the mess they made at the launch press conference.

Im sure a separate reveal press conference sounded like a great idea on paper especially since they could fill the audience with MS workers who were told to cheer at almost every announcement, but the reveal conference only raised more questions about the system. Things MS wasnt ready or prepared to talk about then will have to be addressed at E3. If the reveal press conference was a huge hit, then the separate conferences would have been a great idea, but that did not happen and now they have to go on damage control on top of showing off their game lineup during E3.

With so many leaks coming out of MS leading up to every E3, it is very doubtful they have many major exclusives that do not include expected sequels. If there was some huge news, a few idiots would have let it slip by now or some internet detectives would have found a few clues at least. I think even an exec may have let some news slip, if they thought it would helped with the consoles public image right now. I think if they had something to show, we would have seen some small part by now. Maybe if they hadnt neutered, dismantled, destroyed or shut down almost every studio they had, I would be a little more excited or believe they had a huge secret project to show. It seems the only studios they have left are mainly used for Halo, Forza, Fable, and whatever junk they are forcing Rare to put out.

I know they want to build hype up for their new product, but there is a reason why they hired several large pr firms to handle promotion, rather than let random executives spew trash talk against competitors. Maybe if it was Peter Moore or J Allard, they could pull it off, but these recent release statements just seem like a 5 year old kid screaming look at me as he jumps in the air waving his arms.

I really hope Im wrong and MS has a solid press conference this E3, unlike the train wrecks from the past 3 or 4 years. Its sad to see how far MS has fallen from when they had a very diverse lineup of games/studios in the first several years of the 360s life. I can see them announcing sequels in higher resolution that they think will blow everyone away.

Nintendo can get away big announcements of sequels because they have franchises like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc that people love and have been playing for most of their lives, but I cant think of many current MS franchise that will make me run out and buy Xbone any time soon. A new Viva Pinata, Blue Dragon, Panzer Dragoon Orta or Lost Odyssey game would be very tempting and tough to pass up, but I dont see those games happening any time soon.

Xbox 360 had so much promise in 07 and 08, and that is why it hurts to watch them fall face first starting with the 09 E3 press conference. That press conference followed by the games released at the end of that year killed my love for the 360. For the first 3 or 4 years, the 360 was well on its way to being my favorite console of all time even with the RRoD mess and going through 4 consoles in less than a year.

Their diverse lineup of games had me hooked, they had some very good jrpgs, western rpgs, strategy games, first person shooters, shmup shooters like Ikaruga and Deathsmiles, a good racing simulator as well as arcade racing game, plenty of sports games, platformers, kid friendly games that were easy to pickup but difficult to master with the Viva Pinata series, and last but not least they had so many great XBLA games I wont even try to list them here. but towards the end of 09 the games that I enjoyed started to dry up fast and we seem to get the same game year after year in sequels.

I really do hope MS has a solid conference, to provide strong competition between all 3 companies. I think competition from this generation was good for all gamers and quality of games, so I really hope MS will have the games to back up all this talk and not more sequels they think people really want.

I literally think it's going to end up being exclusives in the first year being "East vs. West" games. After the first year the systems will be wide open again though.

I thought nothing could top the "people will get a second job" comment of arrogance by Sony.

Look at me being proven wrong. Well done, MS.

If only Neil Degrasse Tyson was in this console war, imagine the devastation for Microsoft and Sony... the man did manage to kill a planet.

I have one of those refillable popcorn buckets from the local theater. I'm heading over there the day of E3 and just be like "Oh I'm definitely going to watch After Earth just not the one starring Will Smith. I'm watching the one starring MS, Sony, and Nintendo with GAF commentary. Now if you would please Sir or Madam refill this popcorn bucket to the brim, and layer the butter, I'll bid you a wonderful day." I'm going to head directly home, sit on my couch and stream whatever live E3 feed I can to my TV and lurk GAF at the same time.

:)
I took off from work to do the same thing.

Nope, I don't get the big deal. For me, the ability to play used games is the only really important thing, and they've already said you can play used games on the system one way or another. I'll at least reserve judgment on the console until we know all the details.

Too many people flying wayy the fuck off the handle.

The fact that there's a chance your Xbox One games may not work after a number of years (if the server to check ownership is shut down) doesn't bother you?

Serious question, it doesn't seem to be a big deal to some people. Deal breaker for me.

Everybody taking a couple words from a PR rep so personally, the anger in some of these posts is actually quite hilarious. The console wars really ratchet up emotions to another level.

The number of people in here saying the Xbox is a failure are out of touch. It may not resonate with GAF so far, but the limited data we have so far (UK to be fair) shows that its preorders outpace the PS4. That's after a presentation that they said was not geared towards "core" gamers. If E3 has some megatons, look out.

Reeks of arrogance...but not unlikely. Going by rumors, they've secured some solid Third-Party games, and they've massively expanded their internal studios (23 studios in total, that's 10 more than Sony!). I think their show will be spectacular...

That is not accurate at all. 90% of that list is not proven for anything plus any history of huge AAA titles. We will put their rumors to the test.

Well yeah.

Crackdown > Infamous
Halo > Killzone
Gears > Uncharted
Viva Pinata > LBP
Banjo < Ratchet
PGR > Motorstorm
Forza sucks. GT sucks.
Alan Wake > Heavy Rain

I mean, I can keep going, but that's just in my opinion. Does that mean the Sony games sucked? No, not really (Heavy Rain and Killzone 2 did) but this myth that Microsoft has no first party games is laughable.

Crackdown is not better than Infamous (you should know this)
and
GT is the lion of racing simulators (very much anti-suck)- You know this.
Uncharted, LBP (although, not taking anything away from Gears!) stand on their own... again, you should know this O_o..

?? Your comment (opinion) reads like you have not played any of the PS3 games and that your R&C love came from the PS2.

It's ok to stand up for MS's game deck .. but it looks/reads like you are showing your hand.
- I will concede however, that your post is your opinion.

Well they are confident. I am sure they will have a lot of third party exclusives. They have loads of money. And they spent half a billion dollars on marketing kinect alone.

I love how much you guys are hyped by ... nothing, with (probably, maybe, uh) incredible exclusives, awesome features and in the meanwhile Microsoft can't wait to push into your throat this new "electronic device" (yes, its no more a "simple" console).
I just ask you to stay sharp and cool, and please, don't let the hype fool you mind.

Remember we play videogames and we don't need to be their b****es.

Ps yes, I TOTALLY dislike Microsoft and its attitude (and I'm not surprised in the end)

FYI:
FIFA and COD have "EXCLUSIVE CONTENT" not exclusive rights.

FIFA = Connecting to the game in ways you could not in the past and "only on Xbox One"
COD = Gets Maps early.. same deal as the XBOX 360.

You don't really have played any of that games, I'm pretty sure ;)

Ps I played ALL the game in that list, got platinum and all the achievements
