Ex-Human Head developer alleges on Twitter that Bethesda is lying about Prey 2

Did Bethesda ever outright say "it was just a demo"? That sounds like the kind of lying that doesn't necessarily work to their advantage.

talking shit about your old boss on Twitter is never a particularly good idea. props to this guy for having the balls to do so though

I have had hype in my heart for this game since the original. I have beat the first one multiple times. I loved all the footage of this game so much. If Arkane does have control they are a great team and Im sure its in good hands. Just sucks because Human Head studios are easily one of my fave teams out there.

And people say that Bethesda treats developers well, they might treat theirs well (not very evident when they have threatened to cancel the next Doom, although it's deserved), but other devs have done so much for so little with them.

Obsidian comes to mind.

Honestly, whoever manages external dev relations: fuck you. You are what's wrong with this industry.

What kind of petty feud makes a publisher sit on a completed game but not release it? You're practically sitting on an oil reserve but choosing not to drill. The Arkane Studio rumors makes it seem like they're starting from scratch.

Saying that it's a full game doesn't mean the game was ever completed. What he meant is that, unlike many rumors, it wasn't just a demo to show off at E3. The game was probably still far from done and for some reason the publisher decided they didn't want to pay for completing it (which could easily be multiple millions btw).

Well, it was a rumor, but it was said that the next Doom has restarted development countless times, and the time in which they had considerable a good amount of work done, it was only 10 mediocre levels according to the sources who said this, which were also scrapped. The thing is that Bethesda or Zenimax or whatever is sick of it and are threatening to cancel the project unless id has a releaseable project by sometime in the future.

Lemme search the thread. EDIT: Found it! http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=534093

Any chance Bethesda will actually make an official comment besides the whole we don't comment on rumors and speculation we got before ?

I want to hear the full story.

If this is true its not only despicable, but very sad for Human Head employees since they don't see the monetary benefits of releasing a full title.

Correct me if I"m wrong, but we only saw a CGI trailer for Prey 2...no actual gameplay. Maybe the game was a disaster so Bethesda scrapped it.

Which makes you wonder what team worked on Dishonored and what team would be working on this. The name brand isnt as important as the people working on it.

If you look into it, the France studio is hiring like crazy and the Austin studio isn't hiring at all.

So one team is really gearing up to go into full production, and one is likely still in pre-production.

This guy is implying the complete opposite.

That they almost had a full, working game. His background seems to give him credibility.

Granted, it's pretty easy to talk about how awesome a game is when no one will ever play it. I just can't imagine a publisher scrapping a game close to completion, with lots of positive buzz behind it, if it was awesome.

Human head prey 2 is bad. I doubt arkane studio will do any better unless they create a completely new prey 2 or maybe a reboot with a better story, new characters and new game play.

All E3 impressions were super positive too.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Arkane Lyon = Dishonored 2
Arkane Austin = Prey 2

And yeah, the Sleeping Dogs situation comes to mind in regards to this. Had nobody picked up the rights to that Activision would have been sitting on a near finished game, never to release. It's sadly not unusual for developers to build a ton of content for a game later cancelled.

I don't think there is anything future employers love more than someone who trash talks their old boss/employer, whatever (no matter how true).

Rather bad analogy.

The other release they stepped in and rebooted. If the leaked screens were any indication they may have been right to do so. Prey 2 on the other hand looked great.

The scary part about the Doom rumor was the implication that if they don't get the game going smoothly Id will be turned to a tech-only studio. Which is nuts when they're capable of gunplay as amazing as Rage. They're a few smart level designers away from another classic.

But there is good tech out there they can license without having to keep id around, tech-wise id hasn't done anything special this gen. If id can't get things done commercially Zenimax might very well cut them loose.

Wow, fuck Bethesda. Nothing but shit comes from them.

Does Human Head have a game planned for next gen ? I know they helped with Defiance and Infinite but I haven't read anything about them working on they're own project

Seems like a lot of grief for a property that doesn't resonate with anybody. Go into any game store, ask people what they thought of Prey. The most common answer will be, "What?".

Ya, which makes it even more curious why the dedication to the title. Almost makes it sound like someone trying to cover their ass for making a call to pick-up an IP and developer.

Wow I completely forgot about how amazing that game looked.

That game looked pretty far along in 2011 if they had all of those systems in place.

Real shame.

In other news, look what I got coming in the mail. Activates on Steam.

Keep in mind that developers often create great looking vertical slices to present.

Irrational did that with Infinite.

i never understood why Ubisoft did that, what's the point of buying his studio, firing him and putting his game on hold ?

"You either work with us, or you don't work in this industry at all!"

http://kotaku.com/we-hear-the-people-behind-dishonored-are-now-working-on-510646344

Jason has an article on this, I almost forgot.

"Higher-ups at Arkane are telling the team to forget that it's called Prey 2 and just treat it like a new System Shock."

Not sure what to make of this... I mean, this doesn't exactly sound like Arkane is happy about it either. And now with this info...

Well this reinforces my point of Bethesda being a company with shitty practices: they're obligating Arkane, a company that should have the same freedom as Naughty Dog, work on a game that should be out already but it isn't because of their terrible treatment of developers.
