Its perfectly fair to criticize it when MS stated and SHOWED the device running smooth as silk.
MS lied. Plain and simple. Nobody is in the wrong here by calling them out. Do you even understand what's going on? We're not bashing on the box for what it is right now - we are bashing on the box for being shown something entirely different - a falsification. I expect major overhauls before release but lying about a product is a no-no. We've been there in 2005 - no need to do this shit all over again.

People want to overanalyze a simple console OS before release, so I get to overanalyze a gif that is clearly a dishonest portrayal of what is happening in the video. They try and make it seem like there is a huge delay between her voice command and something happening, when in fact, she gives two commands, only one of which we actually get to see transition in real-time.
There's no overanalyzing this:
"See? It was just that fast!"
"Wanna see that again?"

While I had questioned whether the final OS/GUI would work that seamlessly, I didn't imagine they would go as far as to disingenuously convey these features. I merely thought everything was just highly optimized solely for the presentation(kinda like knowing the parameters of a benchmark beforehand and optimizing your application for good looking test results), which is a bit shady still, but less actual faking.
I'd imagine they'll have things ironed out by launch, but they've set themselves up for some serious backlash if the experience is anything less than portrayed. Good luck...

I knew that it was just an example when I watched it but I will bet that when it works correctly it will work at least 90% as well (of course there is always random voice recognition errors that will occur)

Hmm, I've been hearing some of this myself. It'll be hilarious if MS tries to sell a more expensive gaming machine with 1/2 of the perf. Knowing people's buying habits, they still might beat Sony on the market though. :/

It's not a lie until the thing exists and can be purchased / previewed. Maybe they have a newer version that's 100% the speed of what they showed and they didn't think it made sense to use it at their conference for some reason.

That said, I suspect that it will NOT work the way they claim it will. Until it actually hits the street and can be used I don't think there's much point in attacking them. Once they put the thing out, if it really is even slightly less then what they showed, I will be right there with you on the picket lines. If it is I actually hope they land themselves a false advertising lawsuit, because at that point I think it would be justified.

Wooooow, this seems new thread worthy to me. Further degrading the performance from it's current state? Would this have to do with the ESRAM on the APU? That's the only thing making it significantly bigger than Sony's APU, right?

The operative word here is is. Currently it is not that fast. It is hoped to be that fast. It may be that fast. But it is not that fast. There is zero evidence showing it is even half ready. There is MOUNTAINS of evidence that it is far behind. You're hoping for evidence to support your wishes in the face of everything else saying otherwise.

I can look it up on the app on my smartphone, or do a search in the cable box. Or use the menu to navigate to the sports tier.
I actually did this because someone was over the other day and wanted to watch the military channel. Took all of 10 seconds to find.
It looks like my wallet is going to be happy when it comes to upgrading my PC over the gen. this is certainly going to be interesting...

maybe they should have stopped trying to convince the audience how fast their pre-recorded proof of concept video of their OS was and just labeled the video 'this is a proof of concept' and stopped trying to act like it was real-time during the conference?
It's not that the OS won't quite obviously be much improved by launch, it's just they shouldn't have tried to pretend it was realtime.

Maybe at first. It's going to be another long generation and the games will reflect a vast difference if the hardware has a vast difference in power. People will buy the better system eventually. I mean when was the last time an undeserving system was the biggest seller for an entire generation?

Or..you can grab your phone, unlock it, pull up the internet and then search for the TV guide or whatever...
I'll just tell my xbox to goto ESPN so i can watch the game.....

I don't have any doubts with the PS4 UI. Yes the in game XMB on PS3 is terrible. But they definitely fixed that with Vita. The OS is so good on Vita so my confidence in how good the PS4 OS will be is high.
I guess sarcasm doesn't travel well over the internet, hah.
