If only Lightning Returns took itself as seriously as X-2, it might actually be an enjoyable game instead of trying to take all this ridiculous shit so seriously.
I agree I haven't finished the game yet :0. Still looking forward to Lightning Returns. I wasn't big on it at first but it is kind of growing on me.
Lightning is a soldier, Sahz is a pilot, Hope is a kid who becomes a scientist later on, Snow is a loser from beginning to end, Noel is a hunter... It's the storylines that have problems, not necessarily the characters being way out there (at least not at first).
I do not think that is the idea's fualt , it was two games filled with a poor story and bad gameplay that did that.

Actually, not really... LR isn't even out yet. Though it will likely be ridiculous when it does, but that's besides the point since X-2's intro was BEYOND ridiculous.

Like I said a bit earlier though, FFXIII trilogy takes itself way too seriously for all the ridiculous shit that goes on in the plot.
Not sure how you interpreted it, but I am saying X-2 does not take itself seriously, and neither should Lighting Returns.
This will be the main difference, X-2 knew what it was, LR will surely try to be deep and edgy.

Do keep in mind that this is simply ONE entry in the mainline FFs and its sequels which are only happening because it took too long to get XIII out and XIV 2.0 has been draining their workforce so putting all the effort that it would take to creating a non-related completely new mainline FF (FFXV) is impossible.
Besides, XIV itself is more of a traditional FF without all the craziness, aside from being an MMO, so it's not like the XIII saga is some kind of sign of what's to come in the future of the series. We can still get stuff like Type-0 & XIV in a home console non-MMO mainline FF and quite likely will with Versus (XV?) and XVI.
Honestly in one week we will all know for sure. Whether the doom and gloom surrounding Square Enix is legitimate or not.
Though as XVersus is expected to be there, I am inclined to the positive side. That won't make the XIII trilogy any better though. LR may turn things around though, who knows?

Seriously, the first ever sequel in a series as big as FF and we get some Lazy J-Pop Otaku centered crap, seeming made just to show off Rikku's thong? The battle system was good, sure, but that doesn't save XIII from the wrath of the fandom either.

Yeah it could have vocals from the guy who sang CRAZY CHOCOBO too, it would be wonderful.
This is my only major problem with X-2, if it never happened, XIII trilogy may not have happened. I never cared about X's story though, so I enjoyed X-2 for the cool battle system. I never did finish it though, but I got to like 2nd last boss before I got bored so I'd say I generally enjoyed it at least.
Oh I wasn't referring to Final Fantasy, just the XIII trilogy.
It didn't ruin X's story. It had the best battle system in the series and the opening is amazing. How can anyone honestly hate it?
I would have actually done a proper response to each of those points but unfortunetely I'm on my way to work. I'll try later I guess.
