Grears is garbage vs Uncharted in every way. There is no comparison between a generic overrrated franchise like Gears (where you cant even jump) to Uncharted - the pinnacle of action adventure games

I love how Gears is considered "generic", yet it nearly single handedly pioneered and popularized cover based third person shooters.

Uncharted wouldn't exist without it.

Gear is good and UC good. The first Gears and UC2 were especially good for their times

Stop being twats

Thank you, move along.

Gears of War 3 is great, fuck the haters. Better shooting than UC2, that's for damn sure. And I love that game.

Not saying Gears 3 is bad, I really enjoyed it, though I do still prefer 1, followed by 2. Just saying that it's strange someone would think Uncharted 2 was junk for it's gameplay and writing, but by the same token think Gears 3 was superb lol.

Killswitch started the cover shooter craze, not gears.

Gears vs Uncharted? Its 2007 all up in this bitch.

there is just no comparison. UC2 won 150 GOTY awards and is also GAF's GOTY. The entire Gears series wont ever hit 50

On topic, lets get back to LOU . shall we?

Gears is solid. I feel the series gets too much credit for gunplay though. Unless you gib or headshot someone it feels just like every other soft peashooter out there. The IDEA of the Gears of War weapons is better than their execution. The sound isn't that great either aside from the sniper weapons.

Mostly better than Uncharted though, that's true.

Considering that Uncharted only came out a year after Gears, I don't think what you're saying is correct. Quite a bit of Uncharted was already planned and in progress before Gears of War even hit store shelves.

Uncharted debut was @ E3 2006 before Gears came out.

Lol you think gears influenced a game in development?

So I just read a couple of different reviews with different kinds of scores, and at the end of it, I still don't know what makes this game so amazing?

The gameplay seems to consist of walking around open areas looking for trinkets (been done a million times), 3rd person shooter sections with wobbly aim, and trivial sounding puzzles. Also there is stealth, but it involves using a magical ability to see through walls.

I'm not saying the game is or isn't amazing since I haven't played it, but if you ignore the story and characters and graphics and all that, what about the gameplay in this game is actually supposed to be standing out so much to get all these 10's? Honest question.

So, I'm not sure what the big fuss about videogames is? It's all just timed presses and pushes on a bunch of sticks and buttons on a controller.....

Sony was working on the cover system mechanic long before Gears came out. They even had it with Eight Days. As others said, Killswitch was the first.

This is test footage from well before the PS3 even launched.

Gears may not have influenced jack shit, but it, along with RE4, made the breakthrough for third-person cover shooters. RE4 for the over-the-shoulder camera, Gears (and to a much lesser extent R6:Vegas) for cover.

And that has everything to do with getting there first.

Have any reviews talked about the AI? Like how it compares to the E3 demos? Sure we've seen enemies that search for you and work together but the AI shown then was much more that.

They communicated, they reacted dynamically to the situation, they had self preservation, they seemed human. That dynamic is what impressed me the most.

Has any review talked about this or mentioned how the AI is, beyond that they flank you, hunt you down, etc."

If you've got GoW:Ascension then you're good to go. There is no public demo.
