Xbox One to only work in certain countries at launch

I really just simply don't get this system at all anymore. How the fuck are they going to make a profitable business out of this? Massively overpriced, so slow adoption guaranteed. Only available in some countries, so can't even begin to compete globally. Requires internet, so you better not be from an area with unreliable connection or poorer sections of your community.

It's like they're trying to fuck themselves

Trying? Bro, I've seen MS launching numerous products over the years and this is competing with the goddamn KIN.

Jesus man, they spend few hours to finally know how to answer the question

I can't believe all those "sorry we don't know anything" support tweets. At least they're trying to reply, I guess.

It's as if they've insured the project to the max and want it to fail to get a lot of money from the insurance company, or something like that.

I just can't think of something very logical.

I could easily see this console slipping into 2014 in many territories. The reason why they cancelled their post E3 roundtable and many one on one interviews is because they have no fucking clue when it comes to the console they designed. They're this late in the game and still have no answers.

MS seems to be in full blown carnival of stupid mode right now.

I honestly don't get how people can defend this. I have a friend who is defending all this bullshit and I'm starting to think he may be a MS viral marketer. Either that or a massive MS fanboy who loves the taste of MS's ass.

I get liking the exclusive games. I get liking the new higher fidelity kinect. I even get maybe liking the TV shit but I cannot understand anyone defending MS on the DRM or this shit. Like, I honestly don't get their point of view. It mostly seems to be the 'It doesn't affect me so I'm fine with it' way of thinking.

Also IP locked per region.

A Spanish Xbox One becomes a brick inside Portugal, LOL that is hilarious

I still can't find words for this. I thought, they will improve their quality, by expanding things and be more open to customers, but instead, they are just shitting all over us. This clearly isnt't right and I seriously hope, they fail with their plans and re-think, what they did.

Who was in charge of those stupid decisions? There is just no excuse for this bullshit.

even assuming they do not know, the thing is, if you step outside of microsoft's bubble, every one of these answers is an easy yes from sony.

Sony's PR is yes to everything Microsoft fucked up on. How do you go from something as strong as a 360 to this? Honestly the only thing this is doing is making me sad.

I must say that people misunderstand this requirement. The Xbox Live is not officially supported in these countries (no services and support), but people from all countries can sign up as nearby supported country to gain access to online games and other basic features.

Please do not make fun of Microsoft for this, this is an old policy.
Did I read the bolded right? Tell me you are joking...

So vague. But it doesn't sound very promising.

Especially since CBOAT told us that MS' drm is worse than we currently know.
If you realy can't play games from one region in another region than that is completely fucked. Even Steam lets you plays games on your account in any region or get games gifted to you from other regions.

No Japan?

For whatever reason Japan is never included in the "Asia" region when it comes to media. But I do find it odd that there doesn't seem to be any mention of Japan anywhere at all.

SURELY it's being released in one of the biggest gaming markets in the world, right? Even if it is one where Microsoft routinely gets trashed.

Right?

EDIT: Ah, Famitsu mentioned it? Well there you go.

I guess Microsoft Microsoft are running the show now instead of the Xbox Microsoft of the last two gens.

I don't believe it that Sony able to pull this off.See the launch of PS3 as example.

MS will not make the same mistake as when Sony launched PS3 for the PAL countries.
Still sad for those people's whose live outside the launch countries.
MS please drop the 24 hours policies and you can have my money.

I really just wish I was a fly on the wall when they were debating the Xbox One strategy. Must have been just like living in bizarro world.

Yeah, although to be fair, region locking really is only something that matters to the hardest of the hardcore fans most of the time. Don't get me wrong, I love that PS4 is not region locked, but I don't think having a region blocked system really impacts sales much at all.

Americans:
imagine if you bought a Xbox One in California then moved to Oregon and it ceased to work.

that is how ridiculous it sounds inside Europe: especially considering how small the countries are. Even smaller than some states

1) Nobody cares about you.
2) You are one of the most annoying GAFfers (Sendou being another)
3) You always speak as you are the sole member of this forum that is right, and everyone else is wrong. (above statement is a perfect example)
4) Stop wanking over XBONE... it's rather disturbing really.

But he has a point. My country is there too so why should I care?

Don't believe what? It is a given that if you get a PS4 it will work anywhere you can plug it in and hook it up to a monitor or TV.

Hmm Finland. Could be a wrong stereotype but Scandinavian and Nordic countries have a high cost of living and a friend in Denmark is complaining about really expensive game prices. He used to order a lot from Amazon and Zavvi to counter that and as it's looking that will no longer be possible.

"I have internet speed that can allow the xbox to work why should i care?"
"I only buy new games why should i care?"

It's the principle behind it that people dislike.

Principles are bullshit as far as video gaming goes. I just look at the product and ask myself "This is shitty move for some but does it affect me?" It's not rocket science.

a) Finland is not even part of Scandinavia.

b) The streotype is a fact

c) Zavvi and Amazon(.co.uk) are inside the same region so tell your Danish friend to relax.

Show it to him and let him add this question

I did earlier, he and a bunch of people retweeted it, then even more people were like "wtf are they thinking". I also saw that Kevin VanOrd, Justin Epperson, Rob Florence and some other journos are now aware of it. They are equally baffled.

where the hell is Greece? I was not planning to buy one and I also live in Italy now for the most part, but a lot of my friends will be pissed.
Well, means they are going to be forced to switch over to PS4. Sony is going to win over a lot of Europeans at launch!

EDIT: post #1000, my first one so far! :p

I edited my post to include Nordic before you posted to counter any semantic deflections and we really don't know about c at this point. They may be starting to use IP-based country locking based on the current vague wording. This could fuck over continental Europe as a whole.
