Games are like women. They all have something beautiful about them, and something ugly. By picking the right or wrong camera angle, you can choose to highlight the beautiness as well as the ugliness .

People compare the Wii U with PS360 hardware because even though it's slightly more powerful, those are still the most comparable platforms in terms of visuals.
Mariokart 8 looks nice, and it would be great if more Wii U games achieve native 720p with a stable framerate, but in the end, it's still just a nice looking current-gen game.
I also don't understand how anyone who watched the 'X' trailer could be fooled into thinking this is a next-gen game.

I couldn't possibly disagree more with nearly every point made in this post save for MGSV looking next-gen and the sports games not blowing us away. There were quite a few games shown, not just MGSV, that trounce everything from current-gen and are fully worthy of the 'next-gen' moniker. It's a legit generational leap over last-gen, huge. Crow was served at E3, although there will always be people that deny and downplay it.

You can stomp your feet like a child as much as you want but you wont ever be able to change the subjective opinions of everyone you meet to align exactly with yours.

COD on Wii U should be announced eventually and probably other titles.

Makes sense to drop a bomb before the others launch. But Nintendo is Nintendo ... bosman´s bum bum bubum bum bum

Can someone explain why the Wii U games look amazing in motion but only good on stills?

I'm curious to know if the latest X footage has changed your mind about it looking better than Just Cause 2 (on consoles)?

IQ is certainly a lot better. I'd say yeah. Still didn't change the fact that the initial gif that everyone posted everywhere wasn't at all impressive.

It's rumored that Ghosts on Wii U will release the same time as PS4 and One which would be good.

...Well it will be good if they release before the PS3/360/PC versions.

People usually make these comparisons in context. 50% faster than the competition is not the same as 50% faster than last gen consoles. Random number but you get the point.

Whoever is saying the PS4 is a generation ahead of the Xbox One because it has a few advantages is wrong. Just like you, I wouldn't consider a 50% difference to be "on par", but it's definitely in the same ballpark and the kind of difference I would expect from systems released within the same generation.

Does it hold up against the likes of The Division? Not at all. Titanfall? Yes, absolutely. I agree that it still doesn't look distinctly "next gen" but I wouldn't fault anyone for thinking it looks beyond PS360. It's all in the eye of the beholder, that's the main problem here.

I ate no crow however I did smell a lot of bullshit. My expectations were higher than majority of what was shown, given all the PR "new engine next gen hype" that I allowed myself to believe. I know the feeling I had when I first saw PS1 -> PS2, or PS2 -> PS3. Some PS3 -> PS4 stuff was amazing but I did not have that same feeling overall.

People that deny and downplay it?

Maybe some people simply don't think its a huge leap and imo they are entirely entitled to feel so. I will eventually be purchasing a PS4 and enjoying the games on that system. But don't mistake my opinion for "points" just because you don't personally see eye to eye with me. YOU think its a legit generational leap; great all the power to you. Woe is me or anyone else sharing a similar opinion and our last generation eye sight, right?

And like I said in my prior post, it was for me personally. I could care less about what you agree or don't agree with.

Don't spew your "I'm right and everyone else is so blatantly wrong" opine on everyone else who simply doesn't agree with what you think is right.

I was sharing my opinion, exactly as you did. It's implied it's an opinion. There's no need to put an "imo" at the end of every sentence. Relax.

Also it seems as though some of the heavy hitters on this thread have lost interest. I’ve seen a couple recent posts from Fourth Storm, BGAssassin, and Mihael Mello Keehl but haven’t seen z0m3Ie, blu, Thraktor, or krizzx. Was wondering why the loss of interest? There’s been so much in this thread and I was hoping to hear "closing statements" or some kind of finale! haha Certainly not expected just sayin

I can't speak for the others, but there's no loss of interest on my part, I've just been pretty busy these last couple of months, so haven't had as much of a chance to contribute as I'd like. I'll hopefully be able to sometime soon, though.

So your "opinion" is that people ate crow when many disagree that any crow was eaten? In which case, your crow eating opinion is worthless since said crow eating would require objective evidence to have taken place at all. In effect, no one ate crow, your opinion is not more valid than anyone else's, and your insistence that people should rescind their previous expectations of a less than significant bump is, like I said, nothing more than childish foot stomping.

The thing about this, the PS4 doesn't even support DX11 so I think Square could put KH3 on Wii U if they wanted to...Or if Nintendo pays them too, but that's what I think but I know for a fact PS4 doesn't support DX11 because Microsoft owns it.

MGSV looked amazing, but I do agree, both Wii U and PS4 impressed me visually, Xbox One didn't really do that.

When developers talk about DX11 they're really talking about the feature set that the GPU supports, and the GPU in the PS4 is definitely DX11 compliant.

If the feature is supported by the hardware, a developer is going to ask for it, and if a developer asks for it you can be sure there'll be movement on the driver side to support it (how immediate that is depends how important the inquirer is, of course).

I think the main barrier between a DX10.1 and DX11 is the support for compute shaders. DX11 compute shaders are far more flexible and powerful than DX10.1 compute shaders, and some things you can do in DX11 are just plain impossible in DX10.1. No many I've spoken to seem particularly excited about tessellation shaders, but that may change as toolchains get better support.

I know I'm late to reply to this post, but I honestly can't see a huge difference outside of maybe MGSV (and this is me personally)

The only game that truly impressed me graphically in terms of a "next gen" feel, in all honesty, was MGSV.
Forza 5, The Division, Shadow Fall, Dark Sorcer Demo, Ryse, The Order, Witcher 3, Quantum Break, Battle Field 4, Need for Speed Rivals. Non on them impressed you in the slightest?
I still stand by my statement that the Wii U is 2 - 2.5x the power of current gen. Which is enough for 1080p games at current gen + effects.
But it is not reality. Why are we seen all ports at exactly the same resolution then? If Wii U was capable of 1080P at cuarrent gen + effetcs with that power draw and size i don't think most wouldnt be compalining.

Also very interesting comment from Nomura, Wii U not having the capacity to support equivalent features from DX11 API and how impacts game development, plus obviously the huge gap between the PS4/X1.

This is false, what is thruth on the other hand is that the API used by Sony for development is not DX 11, which is a different matter. The hardware is fuly DX 11 compliant, which seems not to be the case with the U.

Didn't Tesselation shaders come into existence with DX10.1?

I'm pretty sure the .1 was almost if not entirely for performance and tessellation, though it was never really used in games thanks to Nvidia.

I'd say many more agree than disagree judging by the post-E3 threads, so yes, In My Opinion™ , crow was eaten. It's stating the obvious but many (not all, but many) of the people who weren't impressed had incentive to think that way due to corporate allegiances.

Nowhere in those posts was I insisting on anyone to "rescind their previous expectations". I was stating my opinion, not trying to change yours. You're looking for things that aren't there.

And the crow was served indeed, to many even. After all it was in Wii U threads were the phrase "marginal improvements" was coined when refering to the next generation offerings by MS and Sony.

There were hardly any games shown, aside from MGSV, that trounce anything from current-gen and are hardly worthy of the 'next-gen' moniker. It's a tepid generational leap over last-gen, minimal. Crow was served at E3, although there will always be people that deny and sensationalize it.

Eh, of the games you listed, the only one that really impressed me on a technical level was The Division. And I know I'm going to be accused of being blind but even MGSV, while pretty, didn't wow me and felt pretty grounded in current gen development (which it is, considering it's cross gen). Bare in mind, I don't consider the jump in tech to be "marginal", it's definitely substantial and the improvements are visibly noticeable. It makes a significant difference but it was generally in line with my expectations, which was something that wasn't particularly beyond what you could imagine on current gen platforms with inferior IQ and resolution. Even the Division I know would be doable on 360 and still be perfectly serviceable for me in terms of playability. That line is different for everyone though. I don't think we're going to get a real "next gen" moment, as far as I'd define it anyway, for at least a year if not longer.

Texture quality, effects, polygon count?

Just a few gifs of a few models in an empty environment dont' put it on the same level as Titanfall. And how you said Titanfall is pretty average compared to the other next-gen titles.

I don't think it's on the same level at all, Titanfall is (presumably) 1080p/60fps on XB1. I do think X holds its own against it though, even if it definitely comes up short.

Because ports are ports. A port will always run best on and similar to the hardware it was primarily made for unless a large amount of money is invested to completely reduild assets for new architectures to take advantage of its strengths. This is common knowledge in the gaming industry, but it apparently stops being so whenever Nintendo becomes the target. Then the worst ports become the maximum capability.

If I used the logic that you are using, then Bayonetta 1(bad frame rate), Red Dead Redemption(lower resolution than the 360), and Skyrim(where do I begin) would clearly be examples of the PS3's maximum capability and clear proof that the 360 is all around better. Of course people actually use logic and rationality where Nintendo is not involved, so no one concludes that.

Or even better yet, I would use the ports of Zone of the Enders, Devil May Cry and Silent Hill to show the PS3/360 capability over the PS2.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...-developer-disappointed-at-poor-hd-re-release
Oh look, the PS3 and 360 version are missing fog from the PS2. That's a clear sign that they have less shaders than the PS2...

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/646887-devil-may-cry-hd-collection/62982304
Oh look, the PS3 and 360 version of Devil May Cry have audio and crashing issues. The PS3 and 360 are are definitely only on par with a few extra effects...

http://www.destructoid.com/zone-of-the-enders-hd-frame-rate-patch-coming-to-ps3-252957.phtml
Oh look, the PS3 and 360 version of Zone of the Enders have horrible frame rate issues. The PS2 CPU/GPU is clearly stronger. PS3/360 not next gen confirmed...

Oh look. FF7 on the PS3 isn't in HD and only supports 4:3. That means the PS3 isn't strong enough to handle HD with PS1 games.

This is what a large number of posters who come in here for absolutely no other reason than to dismiss the consoles strength sound like in here all the time. You use the worst made Wii U games you can find and compare them to the absolute best best PS3/360 games made by the most experienced devs on the hardware years into the consoles life cycle in only specific scenarios where the PS3/360 games show improvements completely out of context and out of phase.

Thanks for sharing your opinion.

*adjusts monocle*

I respectfully and wholeheartedly disagree that MGSV was the only game that trounces current-gen, as do most others based on post-E3 threads.

And the crow was served indeed, to many even. After all it was in Wii U threads were the phrase "marginal improvements" was coined when refering to the next generation offerings by MS and Sony.
Indeed, it was quite the platter.

Are you sure about this? Here's one quick example off the top of my head: Assassin's Creed 4 is "primarily made for" 360 and PS3. It's then been ported to PS4 and X1, which it just so happens to be running at 1080p and 60 fps on. Kind of takes a shit on your logic, doesn't it?

There's also plenty of people who have said they think MK8 is close to "next-gen" but you get your panties all up in a twist when you hear that. And for the record, I wouldn't agree with it either but that's not the point. So, how does it feel to eat crow about Wii U not being last gen hardware? Bitter, I bet.

And this is where I stop talking to you, Heavy, since I don't think you're capable of getting the point anyway.

Those look like the ones I made, I just kept the video proportions, otherwise it just throws the picture off. Most of the clips in the trailer were short enough to make the gifs bigger.

I don't see how the freezes during the conf have any relevance at all to my point. The odds of them being present in the full version are extremely low. We're 6 months out from launch.

Just like people are free to share their opinions here is mine.

From E3 the best graphically were: Destiny, The Division, Infamous SS , BF4 and MGSV.

The Division was running on a mighty PC so lower your expectations a bit. BF4 was also running on PC. Everything for XB1 was running on PC, so MGSV too. The ones I am not sure about are Infamous SS and Destiny. Saw a clip of infamous 2 vs SS and actually Infamous 2 holds up pretty well. That is what we are saying, not that there is no difference, but last gen games look really good, and Wii U is an improvement to that, they will hold up better indeed.

Even with that I see the Wii U hanging graphically IF devs are willing to put in the effort, and that will be the case if Wii U sales rise.

A lot of people including myself were absolutely impressed by Bayo2, Mario Kart 8, X and SSB. W101 is good too but the artstyle does not bode well as a technical achievement but it looks clean and 60fps.

From those maybe Mario Kart 8 is the one I heard people been impressed the most, including myself, looks very next gen to me. SSB is further down the line than MK8 and that is looking very nice in motion, sure thing it will get polished and it certainly has time for that.

In summary it was a good E3 in terms of what the Wii U can do.

It's from a cartoon on the Disney channel called Gravity Falls. It's one of the best cartoons in years, very funny and very well-written.

That's the episode the avatar is from. No need to know much back-story about the show, but it's basically just two kids staying with their Uncle over Summer vacation. The Uncle owns a "Mystery Shack" store. Supernatural and weird things proceed to happen. Can't recommend it enough.

Does that really matter though? If he loves Nintendo and defends him that's his opinion, there are tons of PS and Xbox defenders on here, but I ain't complaining.

If he said "Nintendo is the best company ever", alright

If someone said "Sony is the best company ever", sure, why not?

If someone said "Microsoft is the best company ever", then that's their opinion

Your entire post history, every single post since you joined the forum a few months ago, is Nintendo-related. Defending, praising, whatever the case, it's about Nintendo. I'd actually be happy if you put me on ignore.

Speaking directly on the thread title, it's a diversion when a dragon attacks a town in skyrim, and the guards and citizens are mowed down by flames, but the children stand there like Superman. Let them exist according to the violence rules of the game in general, or don't include them. Yet realize that not including them in games that have people living their every day lives in towns would be silly.

Try harder. Or just shut up would be nice.

95% then, how about that? The search results are there for anyone to see.

No complaining here. He made it a point to mention he put me on ignore, and I mentioned why it doesn't matter. It's whatever.

Well one thing I can agree with everyone on is that it would be nice if this thread got back to technical discussion. Seems like everyone is done with it until further info though.

considering DK was their biggest selling title by a long shot who is to say retro weren't over the moon to do another one

New IP plz. Something to cater to the west.

Though the way X is turning out, I'm putting all my chips on them. I really enjoyed Xenoblade warts and all and the sequel looks like the tits.

If there's anyone who shouldn't be criticizing someone over their prior post history, it's you Heavy. ;)

I post all over the forum; Gaming, Off-topic, Community. Only a small fraction of posts are about Nintendo. I'm not denying they're almost all critical and have been that way since the specs were leaked. They were incredibly disappointing.

Even with that I see the Wii U hanging graphically IF devs are willing to put in the effort, and that will be the case if Wii U sales rise.
Why would devs bother to put forth the effort to create something for the most complex and extremely limited consoles, when they can put forth the effort in the other platform and create something that makes the WiiU look like what it truly is(last gen) AND manages to sell better because attachment rate as well as much larger install base?

Because there are people like me that maybe (Big Maybe - or at least til 2015) will just stick with the Wii U.

Lets suppose Watch Dogs ends up looking decent enough on Wii U compared to the other next gen consoles. But it has features like off tv play and gamepad enhancements. I would prefer that to the other consoles and i think I am not alone.

Off Tv play will be a big option for everyone and alone a feature to buy one version over the other. I have been reading a lot of people that are playing more thanks to that feature.

The gamepad is not universally accepted but for many there is no looking back. Actually this is why the WUSTs and this thread has been so important for many. Just to know exactly how will the Wii U hang with the others, not because of a certain agenda.

Just because of that? That is absurd!

And no there is no magic that will make WiiU games look comparable to X1/PS4 or PC, no closer to metal API, no HSA, no X86, nothing. Unless Dev are intentionally ignoring or gimping PS4/X1/PC.

Despite being significantly more powerful they are also easier to work with.

Not just that I stated I preferred the gamepad enhancements over graphical fidelity in some games.
