So im guessing this was the BIG surprise news that famitsu was teasing. All those times we jokingly say Versus and it finally comes true lmao

what did Tabata direct other than FF type-0?
Crisis Core, 3rd Birthday, Before Crisis. He's an excellent handheld director, really understands how to play to their strengths. That's why as much as I like him, and want to see how he'll shape FF15, I kinda hoped he'd stay there since few at SE are able to make that type of thing work. At least they have Asano.

I wish they reveal who the composer/s will be actually.

Also clarification:

Does this mean FFXV will be developed on Xbone specs or ported to Xbone specs? I'm confused.

Yoko Shimomura of Kingdom Hearts, Xenoblade and Super Mario RPG fame is composing.

Yoshihisa Hashimoto, Square Enix’s Chief Technology Officer, has lead the charge into the next-generation for the company with the Luminous Engine that will host games such as Final Fantasy XV.

Isn't Julien Merceron the CTO of Squarenix?

Everybody's 'considering' for PC. It's kind of funny that I consider Valve the ambassador of the platform, but they need to start courting.

Tabata co-directing is really fantastic news, as my main worry with this is that Nomura is more an ideas man and a character/world/story person than an actual game designer - or at least that's where his skill-set sits. Tabata will make a really good counterpart to him.

I haven't really been paying attention to the gameplay trailers all too much, so I might have missed it if switching was confirmed earlier, but I was assuming it'd be like Kingdom Hearts 1/2 where your allies are just purely AI with some sliders you can set. I'm actually really happy to hear you can control all party members yourself.
Pretty much. And as far as I know, all the trailers shown beforehand only had Noctis as the playable character. The fact that an array of weapons showed up on the HUD scared me a bit, I felt as if Noctis would be the jack-of-all-trades avatar for the game much like Sora in Kingdom Hearts.

When I play an Action RPG I really appreciate it when the devs allow me to control several other characters so I can experiment with the different playstyles and find a preference. Hopefully Kingdom Hearts 3 follows this so I can finally be Donald!

Definitely excited on hearing more about that PC version. It is going to look dazzling on my monitor.

At least he's not directing iOS games.

Final Fantasy XI was originally designed to fit within the capabilities of the PlayStation 2 and its hard disk drive, though support outside Japan was dropped when the console’s production eventually ceased. Such is the case with a Final Fantasy XV Xbox One version.

If I'm reading this correctly then Final Fantasy XV will be Playstation 4 (and possibly PC) exclusive?

theory:

- No one was available to work for Tabata's project
- Nomura didn't want him Ito'd, showed some pity and brought him in.

RIP in piece Type-x

well, coming from Type-0 and its stupid design decisions I'd be quite cautious about this news.

The Japanese blog says they're developing the game on a high spec PC then porting to the PS4/One to ensure they can give each version an optimal port.

Extremely good news. This is turning out to be a huge game.Tabata is an extremely competent and efficient director.I am very glad this is happening.

Yeah, I found that sentence strange. Would be shit if they were targetting the baseline, but it seems like they are pushing it on PC and then porting, so who knows. Personally, I think if they probably pushed a good PC version, day and date, that could possibly outsell a Xbone version...

In japan certainly, i mean is that really a question? lol

thanks. Haven't played them but a lot of those games I heard were good (even The 3rd birthday I heard had good system except Toriyama's story)

3rd Birthday is great as a game. Even with the bad story the cutscenes are probably better directed than the ones in FFXIII, although it's complete nonsense to the point of being offensive by the end. The game could almost be salvaged if they just remade the 2nd half (story-wise). Maybe.

I think the 3rd Birthday approach to doing what I'm going to call "real damage" is better than Type-0, actually.

Nomura is the "bigger ideas" person and is still the main director. It will still be his vision of the game just like how Tai Yuse co-directs all Kingdom Hearts games but Nomura makes sure the game meets with what he wants. Nomura has supported Tabata and elevated him a lot. I feel the two like each other and complement each other well. This is only good news for the game.

Now we know why it was Tabata who gave the message at the Final Fantasy 25th anniversary last year saying "Nomura wanted to give the message that he will soon show the future if Final Fantasy."

also prediction:

Tabata will direct the sequels himself, Nomura reverts to Creative Director or whatever.

A launch PC version would be a pretty significant step for the series. I stated in another thread that I felt PC elitists would start yelling from the rooftops how their version is better, but I know that's just my petty gripe with elitists showing through (which partly came about because of said elitists screaming about Dark Souls and how superior their version is while crapping on PS360 despite the fact that they built up the game's popularity in the first place).

With how similar consoles are to PCs in terms of parts these days, I see no objective reason not to release on PC as well, so I'm all for it. Elitists however can go die in a fire. Seriously. I hate them with a passion. A fiery, hatred-filled passion.

FFXV is being developed on both Luminous Studio tools as well as original tools by the game team. They are also using middleware. There is an intention to move entirely into Luminous Studio development eventually. Luminous Engine is not complete though, and they say that it would be too late to wait for the game engine to be completed before they start on the game. So both FFXV team and the Luminous Engine development team are working together to make a game and an engine at the same time, complementing each other.

I agree with all of this. Don't apologize cause its true. Thank goodness they are more on par with PCs this time around

wait Luminous Studio was not done? lol.
I hope this doesn't end up another white engine/crystal tool disaster.

Does this mean the actual game will look better than the trailers we got at E3? Those looked like up-res'd PS3 footage.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

Oh god, I hope this game isn't FFXIII'd.

Nomura and Hashimoto both independently said that the game will look much better. They're aiming to make it look closer to the CG in the videos.

Which also means you shouldn't expect to play it any time soon.
