Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?
I'm guessing the "Unlimited power of the cloud" was mostly bullshit then?

You know they wouldn't be removing the ability to use the internet, right? Obviously games that utilized the cloud could still do so when connected to the internet. Even with the DRM you could be offline for 23 hours and 59 seconds out of the day.

Hahahaha. So this will be the biggest backtrack since Windows 8, yes?

If so, I want to nominate a new nickname for the Xbox One that another Gaffer came up with: Xbox 180.

If they do this then I can only imagine how frantic the offices of the Xbox division have been over the last few days. I'm imagining panic and random screaming here.

It would be the biggest u-turn the industry has ever seen, if true.

I would respect Microsoft for doing it. It would be humiliating, they'd be seen as a follower and not as an industry leader, but its the only thing I can see them doing that would allow them to escape the black hole of negative PR they are currently trapped in.

I believe the term you want is Humbling, not humiliating. They were humiliated at E3.

horrible DRM

$100 more expensive than PS4

PS4 is 50% more powerful

Still not really interested. For a console with this power and without any games which totally blow me away, it would have to be significantly less than $400 before I even consider it as a second console.

EA must be pissed.

They have MS titanfall some exclusive Fifa shit because of the promise of DRM. If they backtrack they will be sending some angry emails.

Jimmy Fallon said sony was the only console that supports used games, and don't require online yesterday, the crowd cheered. Xbox one will be on JF again but it will be EA, Microsoft can't clear things up on JF, Jimmy forced them to change their minds because of national TV.

  • No more always online requirement
  • The console no longer has to check in every 24 hours
  • All game discs will work on Xbox One as they do on Xbox 360
[*]An Internet connection is only required when initially setting up the console
  • All downloaded games will function the same when online or offline
  • No additional restrictions on trading games or loaning discs
  • Region locks have been dropped

Well that looks good. I guess we can also hope they drop the price to $400?
mmmh....
What about kinect?

I see you read the misc.

Even if they do follow through, which they probably won't, I still do not trust them enough to throw down 500 bucks and still have kinect attached.

Well done MS, if this is true, you've converted me to "never buying" to "probably buying after first price drop".

I wonder how entrenched this stuff is into the design and spec of the Xbox One? Could this mean a delay of launch while they get this sorted?

I think this was the fastest rumor thread->IT'S FUCKING TRUE turnaround I've ever seen.

I mean until MS makes the announcement, it's still rumor, but with GB on board I think we can say it's a safe bet at this point.

I will be, but will be waiting a year, most likely two so I can be sure they don't try to pull a fast one and re-implement them

Same. I'm sure that the library will bump up over time, but this makes them look even worse (assuming it's true). Those are policies we never should have had to deal with in the first place. No use in telling me 'loljk' now when you told me last week you were gonna take all my toys and pee on them.

PC gamer here, console GAF, even if MS drops their DRM policies, the XBone still has weaker hardware and is more expensive than the PS4. Why choose to buy it??

This would've been too good. Still, with the $100 price difference and no always-on Kinect, my wallet is on the Sony side.

If it's true this is pretty historic. I can't recall another giant monolithic company like Microsoft making such an about face change on a product in such a short amount of time.
