The Order: 1886 is a filmic linear storybased 3rd person action adventure w/ shooting

I think most are missing the meaning of "filmic" in the context of what he was talking about. I think he's referring to the types of effects they're doing. He specifically mentioned film grain and lens distortion and that other games almost look too clean. I don't think he's saying it's going to be entirely QTE based like Heavy Rain.

I don't understand the disdain concerning "filmic"

What game hasn't been cinematic in scope the last 15+ years?

Ready at Dawn is a good studio. I refuse to dump on them because they used a word that incorporated a sense of storytelling.

Interesting read. I really can't wait to find out even more about this game. The small teaser did look interesting to me.

Awesome, a single color toned game based on shooting stuff till they die based on looking like a film... lens flares, water hitting the camera and shaky movement everywhere...

Never seen one of those before. ¬¬

I'm really not sure what to say about trying to emulate film to the point of, well, actually emulating film.

The presentation lost me completely during E3 as soon as the steampunk guns came out anyways, but now I'm morbidly curious to see how this ends up.

With the correct setting and pacing it should be a fun ride. Not every game has to be an open world, genre breaking experience. I'm all for games like these too.

I hope it's like L4D and not like every other TPS/FPS campaign. Now there's a game that is linear, yet always dynamic thanks to the AI director, and manages to become even more "filmic" as a result.

While I have faith in RaD (don't ask me why - I disliked Daxter and haven't ever played a GoW game) this immediately sent sirens into overdrive. The first thing I hear about this game shouldn't be that it's "filmic".

Uncharted clone then? With generic monsters instead of generic soldiers/mercs?

I don't think that they're looking to clone anything. They're just impressed with what ND has done with storytelling. And if you're going to get inspired by anyone in gaming from that area, then you really can't get any better than ND.

They're talking about simulating lenses, distortions and dirt. Filmic is a pretty apt description.

The Fox Engine dudes were saying the same things about their tech as well.

So offline Singleplayer Adventure Game on Disc? Sounds ok ^-^. Maybe its a SteamPunk Singleplayer version of The Divison, sooo sweet sooo online. I actually liked that "alternative reality steampunk universe" theme

I think he's using the word filmic to emphasize that part of their design is to include things like different lenses, realistic film-like filters, etc. The physical aspect of film. Cinematic usually just means movie-like in terms of game design/story.

Filmic and cinematic aren't themselves 'dumb', but the industry types that throw it around to puff their chests out sure are.

That's true. I remember a Simpsons episode where a character was talking about how dumb people use certain words to make themselves sound important. Need to find that episode.

I think Uncharted, TLOU, and all the other clones barely qualify as games.

1. Are you seriously calling TLoU an Uncharted clone?
2. It doesn't matter what you think, they are games.

Anyway, RaD are awesome and I can't fucking wait to see what they can do with a new IP.
