Xbox boss says hardware analysis between consoles is “meaningless”

Throwing out big numbers?

Like 5 billion transistors.
300,000 servers.
The infinite power of the cloud.
The XB1 being 3x, 5x, 10x, infinity x more powerful than its predecessor.

All meaningless. Go tell your colleagues.

Has Sony even talked about how the ps4 is more powerful than the XB1?

All I've heard from MS is the power of the cloud this and that. The only thing I can think of is Sony saying they weren't going to talk about power of the consoles, but let the games do the talking.

But yeah, sounds like loser talk.

It is definitely loser speak, and Jack Tretton and Andrew House have gone on saying that "the PS4 is the most powerful home video game console ever created", or something along those lines.

Well, PC isn't a console (its a platform) so they're right with that are they not?

This together with the thread on Xbox memory performance tells me that we are at the part of the PR cycle where MS tries to explain away the power difference. Expecially in the face of a $100 price difference.

Next they will come up with some convoluted claim that their system doesnt really have 2gb's less ram available for games. And even if it does, having 2gb's less ram doesnt really make a difference anyway. Right?

Have you guys seen Titanfall?!

It's typical PR BS.

Did you watch Mark Cerny's talk at Gamelab? That's how you enlighten people about the platform. Not all the BS MSFT has been spewing for a couple of months now.

You have all the buzz words and not enough technical talk on Xbone. You then have 2 separate talks from Mark Cerny which outline many of the technical merits of PS4.

This!

One if the Many reasons I'm excited about the PS4 is because of Mark Cerny, I truly respect this guy especially after watching and hearing him in recent interviews and talks!

I love him :)

Well, I know it's fun to pick on this, but really,

this is pretty much the truth.

Of course it is, but that's on the reason why MS doesn't want to talk about specs and you know it. This is proof of that

Really Microsoft? It wasn't like that for the 360.

http://majornelson.com/2005/05/20/xbox-360-vs-ps3-part-1-of-4/

When they have specs that they feel are on par or better than other consoles then you can't shut them up about it. It's very telling that they don't want to talk about this.

The only thing "meaningless" is your "infinite cloud power" bullshit, MS. Let's not pretend like that's not empty buzzword "tech-talk".

He is right, as much as the hardcore don't want him to be.

Sure, but it's also hypocritical to say nobody cares about specs, they only care about games, then go on to infer that your system is better because of magic and the cloud. Isn't that kind of talking about things from your spec sheet that you feel your competition doesn't have?

get some go again
well yeah i'd be saying the same thing if my console was the underpowered one. wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of gaming website all have articles saying the same thing. oh and of course it would all be coincidental. ;)

I guess repeating "5 BILLION TRANSISTORS" doesn't count as trying to win a numbers game when it's followed up with "THE POWAHHH OF THE CLOUD"

THE POWAAAAHHH OF THE CELLL!

Of course it is, but that's on the reason why MS doesn't want to talk about specs and you know it. This is proof of that.

Of course, they know they have weaker specs, but I'm also on the side that really it's all about the games and what they can bring in that regard. Just let me see the awesome software. 1.2Tf GPU vs 1.8TF etc etc I don't care about. Let me see what games you guys can bring.

90% of games are multiplatform and designed for the weakest link. So I think who is ahead HW IS pretty irrelevant short of platform exclusives.

That was the most douchey response to a question I've read from a representative in a while...

Is this the same corporation that that basically said exclusives don't matter, and Forza, Fable, Gears and Halo were enough for their Xbox audience?

I don't for one bit believe that they will continue the same exclusive output after the launch window...they will push the hardware initially with games like Dead Rising 3 and Sunset Overdrive but a year in we'll get a trickle of exclusives at the end of the year while they push television, and apps..

I really want Microsoft to fall flat on their faces this generation so they can at least learn something. It happened to Sony with the PS3, it needs to happen with Microsoft and sadly I don't think that will happen with the reception it's getting.

“As a matter of fact, they actually go out and they talk about how proud they are about their off-the-shelf parts. Our guys’ll say, we touched every single component in the box and everything there is tweaked for optimum performance. For me, I’d rather not even have the conversation, because it’s not going to matter.
The fact that people are being paid for this is unfathomable. I want that job - I'll lie extra good, please!

Console games are always made to work on the lowest common denominator. His comments are true but nothing that a gamer shouldn't already know.

Well of course he would say that since on paper the bone loses.

But he might not be wrong. Let's see the GAAAAAAAAMMMMMEEESSSS!

also they have to stop talking about the power of the cloud srsly.

Games are certainly the primary driver, but hardware still matters in the overall analysis. So, no, it pretty much isn't the truth that it's "meaningless".

Just on a superficial level: how many more games can you buy if you purchase a $399 piece of hardware vs. a $499 piece of hardware, since the hardware is apparently meaningless? ;)
