I can't even stand listening to Iwata anymore. He's full of shit.
I too have hit that point. Too many "Please understand" comments and constant empty rhetoric designed to pull the wool over our eyes. I will no longer be gullible, nor give them my money until they sort it out. I have a Wii U already but at this point I cannot see myself being a Nintendo console buyer in the future.
There is however a thin line between a big shake-up to turn around, and the complete failure of a company.
The problem is, it feels like nothing more than a bomb on the level of a Super Nova is going to get Nintendo to get with the program. They are so protective, insular and quite frankly uninterested in what gamers have to say that they need a big slap upside the head to wake them up.
Nintendo is a company that wants to work like back in the old days when noone could really talk about gaming, consoles, what they wanted and what they think the company should do. The day before the BBS's and internet when we got our information controlled strictly through gaming magazines. This way they can control the message and we don't realise what we're missing. These days we have imaginations, we can talk about it and let companies know what we want. We're aware of what all the other companies have planned and we're aware of the games other regions get. Sony and MS seem to be listening to some degree but Nintendo continues to think that if they ignore people we'll just go away and be happy with what we get.
I feel the tide is turning due to the explosion of iOS and casual gaming, indy games and the new tack by Sony especially to be a gamer's company and it's reaching a critical point for Nintendo. With the polarisation of AAAAAAAAA or indy, and the emergence of a massive number of casual gamers who are happy with bite-sized 99c games, Nintendo is becoming more marginalised. They don't easily cater to third parties and their AAAAAAA desires (Bigger, faster, stronger) and they don't have a great track record with indies, and despite comments to the contrary the eShop is dead. They also can't compete with 99c (And they shouldn't either), so there's a market that will be hard for them to get.
