Forza Horizon |OT| A Whole New Playground

I have two streets left to discover and I can't find them. I guess I will hit them by accident if I play long enough but at least on the map there is everythig filled in. I suspect they are hidden under an icon or something, argh.
I'm still missing a couple of upgrade signs and I swear I've been over every inch of Horizon ten thousand times over by now.

Some day...

Speaking of which: Any chance we'll see a Horizon 2 with the option of true to form sim physics? Is there a law somewhere that open world games have to skew at least somewhat arcade? Been going between Forza 4 and Horizon recently and the handling has a world of difference between the two.

Maybe a realism setting as an option? Or is this somehow a limit of the tech or design?

I thought the physics wasn't far off FM's, well at least the handling....in some ways its even better :/

MS have fucked Forza in the ass by locking down the wheel compatibility, biggest mistake they could make. All the games from FM2 onward are a joy to drive but so few get to experience it.

There's definitely less understeer :) I just find myself needing to be far more attentive in Forza 4 than Horizon, in everything from hitting apexes to braking distances to general stability. Horizon, even with every last assist removed still feels extremely forgiving, which is OK, I guess I'd just like it to feel more simmy, for those who choose.

Regardless, Horizon was my GOTY and I still love it as it stands.

Well, I rented this today. My first Forza ever haha, and it's probably been as long ago as GT2 since I played a racer there errs closer to the sim side of things. Not really sure what the motivation was, the game just has a really appealing look to it, maybe all the talk of Forza 5 too. Any tips for a newcomer that I should know going in, or just fire in and figure it out as I go?

You get a far better but looser feel to the car by losing the assists although for a controller I wouldn't go as far as a clutch setup, it's not like a FM where shaving 100's off can be vital. There's no mechanical damage iirc so you can control the car's speed using the gears as much as the brakes.

The AI is cheap, as it's a rental just drop it down a few notches rather than getting stuck and retrying. Good game but I got bored rather quickly.

Hey guys, I can't seem to find an answer anywhere to this, so I hope some of you who resurrected this thread may be of help!

Can you test drive a car before you buy it? Feel how it handles and whatnot? Is there a mode or an unlock where I can test cars before buying them? Thanks in advance!

The closest thing to what you describe would be to join a car club. I'm not sure if the GAF club is being maintained anymore, but you could join and there are tons of cars there shared by other club members, so you can find ones you like and then go purchase them for yourself.

Didn't touch much multiplayer since getting the achievements, it's worth it just for the single player easy.

I would still think people are about, it's not that old a game.

Thanks for the reply guys! I appreciate it. I just joined a club that had hundreds of cars that I wanted to try out.

Also, if you want an online experience - it is still there!

Some silly questions, y'all, as I just started playing tonight (digging it a lot, so far):

1. Is there nitrous?

2. The rival events that take place immediately after a race: what's the deal with modified cars there? Is it just stock vs. stock? And also on that...

3. Half the time during these rival events, the opponent's ghost car will not appear for a couple of seconds from the beginning of the race and then zoom ahead 5 car lengths at a ridiculous rate of acceleration... What's going on here?

Cheers, guys.

I'm fairly new too but I think I can answer most of this. There's no nitrous. The rivals is just racing a friends ghost of their best lap so it can be modified however you want as long as it meets the restrictions of that race. And probably the reason you see them flying by is because it takes their best lap from the race so if their 3rd lap is the best the obviously had a head of steam coming into that lap.

Ahhhhh. Well, that makes sense, but I'm struggling to see how it's fair. I mean, for the the rival race I'm currently attempting, if I'm to upgrade even one component of my car, it will go up a level; and I'm guessing it will straight up not meet the restrictions. Even then, a rolling start is still a massive advantage.

Anyway, thanks for the response, nbraun80.

EDIT: Haha! I thought you only had one lap to beat their time. Man, I feel stupid now :(

well if the restrictions are C class then you can be sure that your opponent is a C class or below as well. Even if they are using the same car as you it can just depend on how you upgrade it, he might have put for upgrades into handle where you went for speed or vice versa. Also if your racing the ghost you can do the lap as many times as you'd like so after the first lap you'll have a "rolling start" as well.

and no problem. :)

Hey guys is there a car club I can join. I'm loving this game so far.

I only have one friend that had this game and wish I could Rae more rivals and such. Is there a GAF GT that has a lot of gaffers on it for this game?

Thx!

I NEED SOME HELP:

I'd start a new thread, but don't have the authority yet.

My problem is the Horizon SmartGlass integration that gives you GPS maps on your device. It doesn't work for my Windows Phone 7 under SmartGlass, and it is completely unclear to me if it would work if I upgraded to Windows Phone 8.

Does anyone have it working on Windows Phone 8, or 7 for that matter?

Or does this feature only work for SmartGlass enabled TABLETS?! Because as usual, the Microsoft press releases were clear as mud.

Thanks for any assistance or confirmation....

The Forza Horizon SmartGlass doesn't work on phones. If you have Windows 8, you can use it on your laptop - but it's really pretty useless, the in-game menus are much quicker to navigate and the navigation triangle is very hard to see.

Did they change something? Worked good on my WP8 but you need to be on the same network.

In that case, I stand corrected: My impression from earlier in this thread was that it wouldn't work on any phone (it wouldn't activate on my Galaxy Nexus, didn't try with the Nexus 10 and Windows 8 worked without a hitch) - didn't know that WP8 would be suitable.

I think it's just that it won't work on Android but will on iOS and Windows 8. Too bad for me it crashes very quickly on iPhone 4 and as it's clearly meant to be used on a touch screen my laptop's not a hot choice for it (nevermind that's way more bulky than a phone or tablet.)

Thanks for the replies. I upgraded to Windows Phone 8 anyway. Same network you say? So its true that since my phone is WiFi, I have to switch my Xbox from Ethernet to WiFi for it to work even though they go through the same router?

Massively stupid if so.

Any room in the car club? GT is: v1lla21

I hate racing online, it's full of kids who just want to crash -_-
I have more fun playing Infection and those other party games.

So I bought Horizon in the last sale and it's awesome. Now I wanna try it with a wheel but without spending to much money, because it won't be compatible with the new Xbox, I guess. I thought about the Wireless Speed Wheel. Is it better than the gamepad?

The WSW takes a bit getting used to but I had fun playing Horizon with it. I rested my arms on my *legs and it felt pretty natural.

I can recommend Alan's heads on with it if you are not sure.

Been playing it buttloads for the last 4 or 5 days... What a great fucking game. I mean, it doesn't set out to reinvent the wheel (heh) or anything, but the amount of polish and just how well everything is executed and how harmoniously it all comes together is really quite excellent. I've not been bored once and I'm ranked in the 80s for popularity, so I've put in some decent hours.

Sure, the douche factor is still there a little, what with all the tunez and the parties and the sexy ladies, but it's nowhere near as bad as, say, Dirt 3, which just came off as extremely forced and obnoxious. The culture fits here; it's genuine. On top of that, I'm really not into sim racers at all, but I love cars and I love modding them, so the type of game that Horizon is and how it controls really resonates with me.

So, yeah. Best racing game I've ever played, I think.

Thanks for adding me.

Question for the designers out there: is it possible to have someone create a logo that I can apply to any car, or is it set (locked-I can't add anything else to the car?) to the car it's designed on?

And if any of you design masters could make me a very simple one (I just am terrible at it), I would be very grateful. And pay whatever credits you want :)

I hadn't played this game in a while but I am getting back into it recently and remembering why I enjoyed it so much.

That being said, they really REALLY need to have a serious discussion about what makes a road "fun" to drive on before they create another Horizon. I love the concept, I love the cars and I love the atmosphere...but these are some of the most BORING roads I have ever driven on. The fact that there is not a variation on Pikes Peak is damn near criminal, I mean, there aren't ANY decent mountain roads in the entire game. Where are the mountain passes with tons of switchbacks and hairpins? Where are the long, undulating ribbons of road with fast off-camber turns?

I really like this game but I hate the environment. It is bland, boring and poorly designed. I have desperately wanted an open-world "sim" racer for years and they finally give me everything I want and yet give us shitty roads to drive on.

Sorry, just had to rant because I love playing the game but I just crave some actually great driving roads.

Anyone knows when you get the rumors for the last two barns? I've pretty much finished the game (except missing 10-or-so of the bargain signs), and I still only have 7/9 of the barn finds, which annoys me to hell.

There are some good sections, but they're over quickly. My favourite drive in the game is west to east along the southern edge of the map, dusk till dawn.
