You get a gold for beating a game usually. Most psn titles are an easy gold too.

It would be more exciting for eveyone if each gold trophy gave you one chance to win that item. That way people with more trophies would still have the advantage. If it's open to whoever bids the highest, they immediately lose the interest of a majority of people.

The current way truly does make this a reward for hardcore fans, though.

I think they will monitor how much interest this generates. People wanted to do something useful with their trophies since the beginning and even HOME was supposed to give you trophy rooms etc.

Integrate somehing like this into PS4 and it's a win.

Even people with thousands of trophies would still be very unlikely to win if the pool was that large.

If they ever expanded the thing into a real long-term program, raffle system might actually make a lot sense. That way trophies could be reused over and over and eventually the people with thousands would beat the odds, and people with very few would still have a chance of winning something.

But for now, it makes the most sense how they're doing it. It's fair. The most dedicated gamers get rewarded for their support/patronage.
