Capcom's Deep Down (PS4) is an online game, TGS debut [Reading-RPG, online required]

This is confusing. Is it like a MMO or not?

Okay, so the first officially announced online-required game is a PS4 exclusive.

If the world needed any more proof that there is one guy holding the puppet strings for both MS and Sony...

Oh shit, we got a conspiracy.

This has all been a pretty good example of why I usually don't get excited for games based off teasers. You never know how the concept will play out, and based on the short bit of of footage the graphic downgrade is massive.

Still waiting to see more, but "reading" rpg isnt exactly what I ha in mind.

It's like Destiny, not an MMO but it's online co-op that happens to require online because Capcom is lame. Why is that so hard to understand? Can't wait for TGS.

bwahahahah Capshit is on a roll lately.

Now they just need to cap it off with a confirmation of a F2P Street Fighter V.

Is this game exclusive? I thought I read somewhere it wasn't? Maybe I'm going crazy

Unverified, but it looks more likely that it is..

Either way, the fact that this game has an inherent association with PS4 and is online-required is kind of funny after E3.

The fact that it looks so bad is not as funny.

Why? Are you daft? Online only games were never a MS exclusive thing

Online only?

I have a hard time believing this is actually an MMO so they most likely shoehorned it in to be assholes.

No it isn't. Footage is probably pre-alpha.

I shouldn't even bother...

Why would they put pre-alpha footage in an official trailer that's shown months after the reveal trailer?

You're right, you probably shouldn't bother.

I'm curious about the online stuff, what is a "reading RPG"?
Edit: answered by Duckroll. What does that mean for the gameplay though?

What makes you say this?

What makes you say MMO? Diablo 3/Destiny isn't called an MMO, yet this is?

We don't really know what they mean yet with the memory stuff, maybe there's an overworld and you enter into the dungeons from a HUB, but based on what they showed I don't understand how people call it a MMO at this point.

Why? Online only games have existed since ps2. The reason people did not like MS' old policy as because all games, even purely single player ones, were going to require an online connection. You seem to be trying to link two issues into one.

When did I say it was a MMO?

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Capcom has gone to total shit. Thats about as confusing a premise for a game yet. Are they firing so many people that they're losing staff that even know how to make cohesive game experiences now?

Because the game is actually in development now. The PS Meeting footage was an engine showcase polished up to perfection. Developers/Publishers probably give us too much credit by assuming we know what WIP means.

Are you daft?

If you read the text coming from my post, you might find that I never said they were.

First?

Destiny
The Division
The Crew
TitanFall
Planetside 2

I was under the impression there was a single player experience that mandated an online connection with Deep Down -- which, if it were the case, would be the first of its kind on consoles. It appears now that the online requirement is because of the inherent mechanics of the game working online.. which is fine.

I'm still waiting for the console equivalent of Diablo III or Sim City which require a login to play the game, even though they do not have any truly significant online mechanics.
