No one is being serious with that suggestion. Calm down man.
No one?
C'mon, there's a lot of people who wants Nintendo to fail, no matter how hard they try to say otherwise.

I'm sure Smokey thought this was big deal when he posted it.
Seemed like it but then I don't know much about manufacturing. I remember the 8GB drive in the OG Xbox giving Microsoft some trouble. I also don't know how long it takes to produc this sort of stuff in large volumes.I'm sure Smokey thought this was big deal when he posted it.

So is this even news or is Gaf just gafin?
It isn't?
A factory that has to shut down thanks to Wii U's terrible performance sounds pretty bad to me...
Given the speed of Wii U sales I figure they have enough components for the next few years.
While this is far from Nintendodoomed, its a bit of a stretch to say this doesnt effect hardware revisions and reducing manfacturing costs in the the way sony and Microsoft must be planning with their retrospective consoles.
The Wii U is quite small, but maybe this news means that a WiiU slim is less likely.
I feel sorry for people working on wii U games. they must go home and drink every night.
Well from what we know of Nintendo their focus is not on making the most powerful hardware but rather on
Their exclusives
Trying to innovate with new hardware concepts (3d motion control asymmetrical gaming)
So I don't see why they should stay in sync with ms and Sony and their current 8 year cycles.
They could possibly position themselves in 4 5 year console cycle and be a sort of middle ground between mobile and ms/Sony approach.
I don't see the harm in that . I understand that the situation is more complex and there are many factors in play . But I for one would be totally fine with considering a Nintendo console as a secondary/seperate buy on a different timeframe. It's when it comes down to hardware muscle and console launch comparisons that they lose out.
EDIT
Focus on Nintendo core and casuals . Plus what they can pull from general gamers. They've already lost the cod crowd and massive 3rd party support.
Except it doesn't seem to be working out for them that well this time now... is it?

Well Nintendo still have dat Wii/NDS money to fall on PLUS the 3DS doing good.
I can't wait to see what they will do for their next console.
They should just use this as an excuse to discontinue manufacture of the console once the factory is shut. I can see the next Nintendo console launch 2+ years before the next Sony and Microsoft console.
4 years total would be enough for a respectable gen methinks.
The only problem I see with that is I think most consumers would rather get more life than that out of a $300+ console. It might cause them to think twice about investing in yet another Nintendo console, knowing it might only have a few years of support at best.
That would be the case if people actually owned the system. If the next system is a hit, people will forget the Wii U even existed.
They would need
to be preparing that console now. You can't discontinue your console and
not have something in place to take over for it. Also, the XB1 and PS4
will both be around for 8 years before they get replaced, just like this
gen.

You meant respective right?
Well didn't they start working on Wii U in 2007? They'll most likely start on next gen soon if they haven't already, and they will take this news and the current problems in mind.
so apparantly nintendo already announced that they will use TSMC to produce the parts from now on. also 3 of the 5 factories of the current subcontractor (renesas) will still be producing parts

i dont get how restructuring of a nintendo subcontractors is considered nintendoom (especially since nintendo is an independant company to renesas) but well..
Nintendo fan boys don't like it, but I think Nintendo should focus on handhelds and get out of the home console game and license their ips out.
maybe they could finally join the 8th gen with their next console? -ahem-

For crying out loud, Nintendo. Price drop, price drop, price drop!
This isn't the Wii homerun of 2006, do a price drop asap!
Things considered, it may be too late for one? Dammit...
They just can't catch a fucking break with this console. Jesus.
People with common sense don't like it, but I think Nintendo should focus on handhelds and get out of the home console game and license their ips out.
