We read the same thing, but I guess we just have fundamentally different ethics.
Now you're questioning my morals? Man, we sure came a long way since that "It this [Reus'] lowest price"?

You know what? On the next Winter Sale, instead of legally purchasing some games for cheap I'll just acquire a pirate version. After all, it's the same thing, right?

Playing the review copy of Papers Please now. I think Im allowed to use this (don't think it will break the embargo):

tl:dr - this is why you don't ask "It this [GAME] lowest price"

God help the next person that asks when [GAME] is going on sale.

That's not what I'm saying... Getting games for cheap is fine, I just think that sometimes the 'quest for the lowest price' is a little bit overkill. And I don't mean to insult you or anything, I'm just saying we have different values or principles or whatever - I just don't agree with what you said, which isn't a problem. My choice of words might not be optimal, I don't always know the connotations of a specific word...

They haven't, but I don't see any issue with that.

I agree with him if I interpret what he's saying correctly. I guess it comes with the territory when you have newer posters which like to share redundant things sometimes.

Hard to really articulate it without getting overly technical. Or he could mean something else.

I believe it's because of all the talk regarding Jase's avatar and all that. I don't really mind it, a little off-topic is fine especially when the thread is moving so slowly. I do mind it on the sale thread, as it moves extremely fast as is, so that stuff only adds to the noise there.

Guys, guys, let's all calm down.
Here, have some games that I'm 99% sure aren't registered yet.
(God, I hope they aren't, because otherwise I'd look like a dick)

I mind things like that but tend to sift through those posts.

Just like posters sometimes overly post to have the top post counts in threads. It happens.

I guess we're all guilty of it at times but when someone replies to posts like 20 times in one page then it's a little distracting. I guess if you're into a game and all then it's natural but sometimes it veers off into the realm of off topic discussion. It's happening in this thread as well but as I said, it's not worth it for me to complain as it would be as derailing as the criticized posts/posters themselves.

In other words, we're into "internets, serious business", territory :p

I have to agree with this fellow GAFfer. I know it may sound silly, but I love to talk about games in here. The games we have been playing, the games we just got and so on.

I always post here when I finish the game, as well the impressions, the time it took me and some general advice about the game. That's the talk I like to have in this fine Community. Talking about cleaning the Backlog (or, increasing) is part of the Steam thread too, the rest I believe it's a better fit to a chat room.

EDIT: Thank you fellow GAFfer Turfster!

If we talked about games we were playing, this thread would still be on page 1.

I talk about games I'm playing and give comments about games I've played when people ask about them. I just try to help out, even if that sometimes means slagging a game (I'm looking at you Aliens).
You're welcome The_Monk, glad I was right that the key hadn't been used yet. (I was, right?)

That's why I said more than just that fellow GAFfer. In fact, I'm okay with anything Steam/Gaming related in the thread.

The rest I don't think it's really necessary but I understand that for some GAFfers other topics might be relevant or post counting can be an important thing for them so I won't judge them and in the end I will respect every GAFfer in here.

And yes Turfster, the key worked just fine. ;)

Terrible timing, got Pit during the summer sale and Sentinel (not Steam but looks cool) from Indiegamestand. I don't think the others are enough for me to warrant a purchase. But it's a good bundle overall.

The description of Bientôt l'été sure looks... interesting fellow GAFfer:

Bientôt l’été is a videogame for two players. Two players who pretend to be lovers. They pretend to be lovers separated from each other by lightyears of deep space. They have lonely walks along the shore of a simulated ocean, thinking wistful thoughts of each other.

What.

These are the same people that also did The Path and other... artsy 'games'. Sadly, the game aspect was sorely lacking there.

If I didn't know better I'd say that's the premise behind Shane Carruth's next film.

Thoughts on Skyrim (Legendary Edition) about 20 hours in:

The good:

  • Big beautiful world with lots to explore
  • Excellent mod support and Steam workshop can make much of the game better
  • Followers/companions make the world feel much less empty than in Oblivion
  • RPG elements (skill leveling etc) are intuitive and enjoyable
The bad:

  • Most quests are tedious and shallow, almost all being of the form: clear dungeon X for a certain item or to kill a certain bad guy
  • Even quests with decent build up end up disappointing in their resolution
The ugly:

  • Combat is bland and subpar for such a high-budget game. Coming off the Witcher 2, this was a real letdown. I was not at all fond of the first person melee combat in Oblivion, so I went third person for Skyrim with a gamepad. It's better but still a disappointment. I can't count the number of times that my power attack animation has forced me to path through and around the enemy to finish the animation resulting in me power attacking whatever is behind them.

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...

It also includes Sentinel, which I raved about a while ago. Thread here:

Lots of positive impressions by others in that thread too:
Alrighty then, I've played the first two levels (about 15 minutes) and I'm diggin it. I'm a fan of "active" tower-defense games -- meaning that you can do things (like man a laser tower!) as the round progresses. Obviously you manage resources, upgrade towers, etc during waves but actually participating in the fight is a nice touch. I really like the idea of shared power. Each tower can give or receive power from another tower and this is like a player-controlled instant upgrade instead of the traditional resource-controlled upgrade. Don't worry traditionalists, random(?) falling gems will permanently upgrade towers but the shared power bonus is a welcome tweak to the tower-defense formula. More player activity!

The music goes great with the simple geometric visuals. I love how the beat syncs up with the towers (I'm a sucker for that kind of effect). It's got that Lumines feel to it, where the music dictates how the rhythm echoes throughout the playing field. I'm thinking that I should have actually paid above average to get the soundtrack, hopefully I can buy it later.

Of course it's silly, kind sir. We never play games here, and laugh at the few people who do :p

I'm still the king at Runner 2. Wario is above me in 2 levels of the 2nd world, but one of these days I'm going to become #1 on those too. And I've only got one retro cart left on the 4th world, which I plan on finding tonight. Plus finish worlds 3, 4 and 5 on Hard (with Perfect+), and then play it all over again on Easy to 100% it.

Add CapnDrake (also a GAF member) and you'll find he's above you in about 75% of levels.

My top 5 leaderboards all consist of some permutation of you, CapnDrake, Wario, Salsa, HoosTrax, and me.

DLC Quest is actually more fun than I'd anticipated.
Glad I checked the "what games have added steam keys" to bundles I owned.

I'm passing on both Ducktales and Spelunky.
I don't really have any fond memories of the game, and the remake looks incredibly low rent. Spelunky, I already played the original game for.

So who's getting Ducktales and/or Spelunky on launch?

Nostalgia for the NES game and the cartoon are telling me to get Ducktales, but WayForward's recent history and underwhelming pre-release media are telling me to wait for impressions.

Edit: I have Spelunky on XBLA. It's okay. I use the analog stick for movement because the 360 d-pad sucks and I have problems with the deadzone being way too small, particularly the downward direction. So I'll frequently duck for no reason. It's incredibly aggravating and I can't really judge the game fairly because of it.

Tthere is one thing Wayforward is good at and it is sprite art, so we get this

Such a shame.

About Spelunky, what are the differences between the XBLA/Steam version and the original freeware? Are there any additional content or it's just the revamped visuals?

I'm worried about Papers, Guac, and Spelunky all coming out on the same day.

At least one of those will probably be left behind, and that is unfortunate.

HUAC?

But yeah, august will be a very expensive month, and it's after the damn summer sale.

You mean Guacamelee?
