Sunday Ticket No Longer On PS3

PlayStation has confirmed to IGN that NFL Sunday Ticket will not return to the PS3 this season. A PlayStation representative did not elaborate as to why the app won't be returning, but Microsoft did make a point of touting its partnership with the NFL for the Xbox One back in May.

Hmmm. Maybe something is brewing over in Redmond. Who knows? But that sucks for PS3 owners who actually used it. I didn't, but I would use the service on the Xbox One.

Bummer.

Guess I'll just have to watch it on my laptop. Madden 25 is a must buy this year only because of Sunday Ticket.

Yup.

Why does the NFL do these exclusive deals all the time anyway? It's not like this is big bucks to them. NFL owners probably spend $400 mil cleaning the stadium toilets each season.

NFL harps about protecting their brand all the time. So they rather have an air of prestige by making their deals exclusive. Pretty old school business practice. NFL rakes in tons of cash from their TV contracts, so they can be picky.

How did this work again? Did you have to be a subscriber to DirecTV?

Man, I don't care about football but seeing NFL's obsession with this sort of anti-consumer exclusivity bullshit makes me really hope the sport eventually plummets out of favor.

... Though the fact it sounds like one of the most dangerous sports to one's long term health may make that something objectively for the best anyway.

Probably XBone, but technically that wording leaves PS4 open, no?
I'm not even sure if media boxes will carry it. The NFL deal described at the reveal was not the NFL Sunday Ticket.

The NFL deal was a mix of putting tech like surfaces in the hands of coach. The Xbox portion of the deal involves NFL.com Fantasy overlays.

It's not a Xbox One thing because the console will be out in the middle of the season. I could see them skipping this year on console to start fresh next year.

Considering the nfl made 9.5 billion in 2012, that's 4.2% of league wide profits from a single deal with Microsoft, that is big money.

Wow....I almost convinced my friend to pre-order Madden for it too.

The deal you are referring to is only for Direct TV customers or someone using a computer, tablet or phone app. They stated it would never had worked on the PS3 as an app or through the browser.

Not hard to connect your computer to a tv, or air play your ipad. The deal hopefully will work great this season :)

Son of a bitch, I pre-ordered Madden just for Sunday Ticket. Guess I'm hooking up my laptop to the TV every Sunday...

While I think this sucks, especially for those outside of the viewing area of their favorite teams, fortunately this does not really affect me. I have the good fortune of living in the viewing area of the Ravens (my NFL team). In addition, if I did decide to get NFL Sunday Ticket (it would be for my dad, a lifelong Jets fan), it just so happens that my PS3 and PC are both connected to the same TV (a 32" HDTV), so the experience would be exactly the same. It's just too expensive. My dad feels he gets to see the Jets enough to not justify getting NFL Sunday Ticket. Up until this upcoming season, we did have Redzone, but due to cutting some cable channels, we lost it. I may consider getting the Madden Collectors edition, but I have a feeling DirecTV may auto renew Sunday Ticket for the full price following the season, so I'm a little wary about that.

Gotta be coming for the XB1 is my guess. And the NFL loves their exclusivity bullshit.

They do, but Sunday ticket is already exclusively licensed... To direct tv. Directv in turn offers it on a number of devices with a plan for non-dtv subscribers

I don't know why they aren't doing ps3 this year but it is probably a dtv thing, not nfl

Man that sucks. Have to tell everyone with pre-orders for Madden 25 to cancel if they wanted to use their PS3s.

Me too. Anyone know how the quality is on pc's?

If its like preseason live it should be decent to good, not super high quality, seems to be a max of 720p, though the in browser player is terrible.

Edit: corrected silly ipad autocorrect

I used it on PS3 but it sucked. Would always have to buffer.

Hopefully Xbox gets it. I hate that it's mostly exclusive to Direct TV.

Sucks but it's probably better off on better HW. It's not surprising given the TVTVTV deal MSFT brokered with the NFL.

There's an in player browser? Does it use HTML5? If it does, people can get it to work on the Wii U browser.

Whoa now buddy, watch with the O word. Some of us enjoy watching other people destroy themselves for our entertainment.

Part of it is probably due to DirecTV contract with NFL expires after the 2014 season. Right now they pay the NFL 1 Billion, yes with a B a year. From what is being seen that price may be in the 1.5 range for a new contract from anyone that will bite.

Haha, that's part of why I said objective since the danger level can be clear cut whereas entertainment inevitably varies between everyone.
I bet we'll see less exclusive games and more exclusive media partners.
I do find that far worse and more infuriating. Games are programs that can be tailored to a system's specific capabilities and to a lesser degree the policies one may have that the others don't. Movies and music... that doesn't really apply there, just files that you slot into any program that can play them and it's fine anywhere so long as the hardware can run it. It's like making games exclusive to specific colored consoles rather than just that console entirely, there's no good reason Halo can run on a Black 360 but not a White 360.
