Media Create Sales: Week 32, 2013 (Aug 05 - Aug 11)

The drop of 88 consoles on Media Create is well within the boundaries of statistical noise. I don't think the estimates of either tracker are accurate within 1 percent margin of error. We've seen too many drastic software disparities on a week to week basis for that to be the case.

We'll see. But if Dengeki reports a week-over-week drop as well, I'll be very much inclined to believe that the console has remained static / incurred a slight loss.

Anyway even on PS3 a collection like that would've been lazy, but also so useless that I wouldn't have mind that too much.
Well if the HD collection had been localized I would've been one step closer to having most of the Yakuza games playable on the PS3, so I would've liked the move, but I wouldn't call them lazy for doing it, since other HD re-releases were ported really well.

On the WiiU it's obviously different, since Nintendo never had Yakuza before and the fact that they released a port only of the first two, which bombed, makes me think we won't see the others. That's what is stupid about the whole operation, if you ask me. If they had all the five chapters in one disc, I'm sure a lot of people would've bought it. Still I don't know, just speculation obviously.

All 5 Yakuza games in one disc? Y3-5 are 20 GB each lol.
...and would releasing Yakuza 5, at least, on Wii U would've been profitable? Assuming there wasn't any exclusivity deal with Sony, releasing Y1+2 HD seemed to be the safest bet.
This brings to mind Ubisoft's move to delay Rayman Legends, after how weak the sales of ZombiU became.

You're probably right. Animal Crossing strikes me as a game that should've bought a good chunk of new players in, but then I don't know how much overlap that game has with the existing crowd.

weird example cause Animal Crossing was released in Japan last year and sold almost 2 mil at retail. Why would it help 3DS more in 2013 than in 2012?

EDIT: beaten

I'm not trying to suggest that 3DS is doomed or anything daft like that, just that it doesn't paint a rosy picture of health for the Japanese market as a whole.

I don't see anyone used 3DS as an example for a healthy Japanese market as a whole. All I see in MC thread is how 3DS is the only healthy platform in Japan and how the Japanese market as whole is sucking.

In the same period NDS was at 17.2m and PSP at 5.5m

Weeks to reach 12 million units.

(Famitsu)

NDS - 101
3DS - 129
GBA - 156
PSP - 230

Based on the two posts, NDS sold 5.2 mil in 28 weeks. Is that correct?

EDIT: damn it. Beaten on this too!

Is there any source for digital sales? I know a large percentage of Vita software is sold digitally in the West. Don't know how well they sell digitally in Japan. Does Japan PSN have good sale prices like the other regions?

Dragon Quest VII was also released this year.

True, I forgot about that one. And even though it is DQ, it was a remake, and didn't post the same sort of numbers as a brand new entry would've, like DQ9 on DS. It was essentially a blip on the radar. Not a huge title with long legs that MH4 and Pokemon will be.

And what percentage is that?

It's down on last year but Pokémon should make things really crazy, maybe it could exceed PSP lifetime this year.

not sure if serious.

I think I remember reading that Gravity Rush had a relatively good percentage, something around 25% last year? I can't find anything anymore though, it was probably just a throwaway comment someone made in one of the threads from a year or more ago.

Is it just me or is this pathetic? I mean this is bad, abysmal sales numbers. In general, this makes console game sales look almost non existent in Japan now compared to last generation and even compared to US sales, this makes it look as if no one cares over there anymore. Or am I off base here? Just doesn't seem like it used to be and it's a little depressing.

I think you're off base here. Those are great numbers for 1 region.

I don't doubt that the console will continue to decline between software releases (which will provide modest temporary boosts at best before the Holiday season and 3D World). I just don't think this weeks sales as a single data point says much either way.

Vita is doing "good" for Vita, which is great. All I ever wanted in my Vita was for it to become PSP2.0 with the jRPG games and I think these numbers are healthy enough to begin to spur that into reality.

Oh yes.

Seems Famitsu HW forecasts for '95...

I see 3DO, Neo Geo CD, Saturn, PlayStation, PC-FX, Jaguar.

3DO: 1470000
Torai (A different model, maybe? Dunno) 120000
Riaru (Real?) 1350000

Neo Geo CD: No Comment

Saturn: 2220000
V Saturn 220000
Sega Saturn 2000000

There were two models of the 3DO in Japan:

1) Sanyo TRY 3DO Interactive Multiplayer

2) Panasonic FZ-1 R.E.A.L. 3DO Interactive Multiplayer
Panasonic FZ-10 R.E.A.L. 3DO Interactive Multiplayer

If Wii U stays at 9-10k next week, it would mean that Pikmin actually helped quite a bit in the long run. An improvement of 4-5k units sold per week is nothing in absolute terms, but for a console that was closing on <4k units per week right before the game's release, it's actually pretty big.

Didn't the Yakuza 1+2 sell around 10k on the PS3 with a much much larger installed base? If so, why are people surprised it did less than 4k on the Wii U?

My Japanese is terrible, but did they call the Jaguar the "Jagaa"?
Something like Jiagaa

It was something like 30k at the first week. Not a lot when you compare with the newer installments, but it's a port, so it wasn't the same expectations. I think it ended up selling almost 100k, which is something the Wii u version will never ever get close.

And i don't think it's a problem related to audience. There is an audience on the Wiiu buying other games. It's just not buying Yakuza, which means they either: Don't want it or already played. On both cases, it shows that there is no reason to port other games.

But hey, at least Wiiu owners that want to play Yakuza and never had a chance got it. It's a nice game after all. I downloaded the demo and it was okay, but i've already played those games on the PS2 and had no desire to buy again. I guess i'm part of the problem. Well, who cares...

EDIT: I was completely wrong at the first week sales! Sorry! But my point still stands!

LOL Yakuza tanked harder than I even imagined. Guess that's that for any mainline Yakuza titles for the wiiu in the future. I wonder if they will port them to the XBone to expand the western audience tho

3ds is doing great as usual and I'm very happy with how vita and Dragon's Crown is holding. As for wiiu....lol dat dragon ain't waking up any time soon

All charts launch-aligned. All data from Famitsu.
Weekly numbers presented in logarithmic base 1,000 for clarity. In that case, zero units are represented by one unit.

C1BLJV2.png

Note, since this draws only from the top 30 it does not represent smaller titles.
e.g., software sales of zero are assumed if the console has no games in the top 30.

rC2V07h.png

Tally of the number of titles for that platform in the top 30 for each week.
Certain weeks may have titles that aren't represented. These are the PS3's 7th and 25th, and the Wii's 4th and 23rd.

Feel free to criticize or point out mistakes.

Yeah, REAL was by Panasonic, Try by Sanyo.

So are they Famitsu HW forecast for '95 as I guessed?

EDIT:
Beaten by the gurl :)

Transliterated, the top text is:
各メーカーの'95年末までの売上目標

Or translated:
各メーカーの'95 = "Each maker's 1995"
年末までの売上目標 = "Sales goal to year-end"

Or paraphrased:
"1995 hardware sales goals from each hardware manufacturer."

Oh yes.

Um these numbers aren't even close to psp 2.0. This is more like slightly better than gamecube 2.0 with worse software sales. These numbers will keep vita support from drying to a halt, but you should not expect psp level jrpg support. The 3ds likely won't even get that support with the way the market is shifting along with 3rd parties. It would be nice to see some more things like persona 4 pop up.

I don't think it does include PS1 or PSP games as it's always been referred to as 'one third of Vita games' by Sony.

was never clarified, wasn't it? also, back then.

Questions (that are unlikely to be answered):
1. Does this include Playstation Plus game downloads as a sale?
2. Does this include download only titles, such that buying one DL-only title and one retail would be "50% of games sold through PSN" talk?
