FYI Baldur's Gate: EE is back in the AppStore.
Apparently a huge update is coming, plus news about BG2:EE.
Seems that all the legal problems were finally resolved.

Rodeo Games' Hunters is free at the moment.

Never really got into WHQ, thought it's been largely overhyped but hey, that's still decent
Thanks for the tip. Playing WarhammerQuest currently and liking it, although a bit easy and slow. Would you say Hunters is better?

Pixel People just got an update. Looks like it adds Facebook integration for sharing profiles across multiple platforms. It also added a bunch of new genes to splice.

Oh man I've been waiting for this. Too bad it screwed up my previous purchases and wants me to pay $5.49 for a IAP I made for 99c near launch (unless I restore purchases EVERY time i play)

Also none of my friends have it and it constantly puts me through the pet exchange thing every time I open the app now.
The app also takes like 3 times as long to open now

I love this game but ugh... I just don't know how I feel about this.

Both of those issues have been discussed extensively (along with the high IAP prices) on toucharcade forums, and should be sorted in the next update.

I've noticed a strange trend in toucharcade reviews, every overly generous and unjustifiably high score there is made by Karl.

Sure it could be just his opinion and he genuinely enjoyed those games but he is really super casual and easily impressed in that case.

Ahh cool thanks for letting me know. I assumed they would sort it out but it still bummed me out.

That damn Kingdom of Pirates (Evony clone) has it's hooks in me. God dammit, why do I always get caught up in these game genres where I know it will eventually lead to disappointment?

Looks like nothing good out this week? Usually the TouchArcade 'Out Now' post has at least a decent platformer or puzzle game but not this time I guess

Have you tried Geometry Dash? It's like the Impossible Game mixed with a rhythm game and elements like gravity flipping and rockets. Has a level editor and there are already some very difficult user levels

If you want some older/overlooked platformers, I'd highly recommend 14px, Bitless, and Backflip Madness.

it really was a good surprise for me.

Only negative would the lack of checkpoints but the dev is aware of that and will be looking for a middle ground.

And this is the plan for the next update:
- New level with a new gameplay element and song (will be available in the editor as well)
- Ability to comment on custom levels.
- Leaderboard system. Not sure how this would work, but I would like to create something that gives players incentive to complete and create levels.
- Some optimization work and bugfixes.

---
And seriously guys, try 14px if you haven't already. It's the best Super Meat Boy-esque IOS game I've played, 70 levels, very challenging, nice replay value (you earn stars by collecting special pickups that require extra platforming to collect, not by beating a certain time), tight controls

Just be prepared to die a lot

Nice. i'm still unable to clear the last two songs of geometry dash xP

thanks for the tip on 14px. didn't knew about this game.

I like aspects of Hunters 2 and WHQ differently (IMO, Hunters 2 is better than 1 in every aspect, but for free it's definitely worth trying Hunters 1). Hunters 2, being sci-fi, is more ranged-based since people have firearms, and you have a greater variety of choice in your party makeup (melee, shotgun, rifle, sniper, flamethrower, rocket, etc. - choose any 5 guys for your party, no restriction on type). Hunters also has an overwatch/reaction fire mode where you can lie in wait for enemies and blast them as they are moving. WHQ, on the other hand, has a more fleshed out loot/character development system.

Hunters 1 has no real campaign to speak of; you make a party of dudes and take daily contracts. If you like WHQ, there's no reason to not try out Hunters. If you like it, though, I'd really recommend H2 over H1.

...pretty much a majority of the time he posts in this thread with his incessant whining.

If I whine, it's always just because I'm disappointed in the way gaming on iOS is dying the way it's dying. I'm 31 years old. I remember when games were games, and my favourite games have always been games.

Now games are businesses, and for the first time it's starting to adversely impact on the experience for the user. We're getting poorer games so the publishers make more money. You might be happy to just sit and pretend that's fine but I'm not. For me, it should always be game design and end user first, and monetisation second, but that's just not the way things are done these days. I'm not saying that developers are sitting around in their offices trying to work out how to make the worst possible game for maximum profit, but I remember when profit came from making a great game, rather than making a game that was able to best appeal to whoever has daddy's iTunes password.

Maybe I'm just old fashioned. Maybe iOS just isn't for me any more, but it would be a real shame to ditch it because until a year or so ago it was just getting better every single week. Yeah, just disappointed, is all, because I've seen how much potential this service has.

I'm sure I'd have a different opinion if I was financially invested in one of these companies but I'm not, I'm a gamer, I will always want what's best for the gamer, and I guess that just makes me different to everyone else here. I'm perfectly happy to be different if that's the case, though, because the alternative is just gross.

The Room new (free) episode will arrive in the Appstore 29 August.

Oh!!

Played PvZ 2 for a couple of hours. Had to activate a power for 1000 Coins (about 55 cents via inApp purchase) because I was not able to master a certain level. A few minutes later the game crashed, Coins were gone, level was still unbeaten. Just wow, EA.

... sounds very Tapped Out.

Oh wow this is great news! I was afraid we may never see this again. Can't wait for BG2:EE :)

Hi - Just a heads up...

Strange Matter Free is available starting today.

What kind of game is this? Puzzle? Tower defense? I couldn't tell from the App Store description.

Tilt-Action game. Gather the energy (the "strange matter") to clear the level. Shoot or avoid enemies with said energy as well (resources are limited based on what you've gathered). Cool sound design as well (imho), use with headphones and sound cranked!

Oh my God...fuck trying to get all the coins on level 6-4 on Mikey Hooks. Fuck that very last part that I keep making it to with 3 hearts

edit: Got em all finally!!

Pocket tactics just posted a preview of Dragon Academy, which seems like Candy Crush Saga with RPG elements and without all the bullshit. Some notable quotes:

Dragon Academy got its claws into [me] like no puzzle game has since 10000000.

“We want people to have a sense of progession and empowerment in Dragon Academy. Sometimes Candy Crush Saga doesn’t feel like you’re playing a game, more like you’re playing against the game,” Polack (developer) said.

You are invested, if companies go out of business they don't make games. I love the good old days too, but every game I love is made by a company that no longer exists. There are plenty of great games being made with no issues. If you have to think of casual and f2p as subsidising other titles.

Like the room. That news is great, although you have to wonder how much gameplay there will be in it. I hope for a big sequel tease/reveal.

Does the dialog ever stop in Plants vs Zombies 2? FAAAAAAR too much of it, I couldn't care less what the annoying crazy dude or talking van has to say.
