Sony's Gamescom Media Briefing On "Release Plans for PlayStation 4"

after reading all of what GopherD, Famousmortimer, and Verendus have been saying in this thread, i'm not really worried about software support for PS4/Vita anymore. my concern is more of 'what happened to all those Feb event features?'

if i could ask them:

-will a LIVE demo of legit Vita-PS4 remote play be at GC?
-will they show us how the PS store game prediction/autodownload feature works when recommending games?
-will they show us how to replace the HDD?
-are we going to get a full walkthrough of the OS? (even if with the press after the keynote)
-will they show the mobile app? date it?
-will they show us the social features like spectators dropping in items?
-will the streaming features be day-one with video sharing, or is that a gakai technology?

the reason i'm concerned is that sony seems to have a habit of showing us a lot of possibilities, and then not delivering them at launch, and just kind of spreading them out little by little over a long period of time. i'd like as much of what we saw in Feb to be there on launch day as possible.

hopefully during gamescom, via web articles and hands-on videos. I don't expect much of that on stage - too much opportunity for demo fuck ups (also pretty dull to take up stage time)

Sony must be aiming for the rumored October launch. They wouldn't let MM delay their potentially biggest Vita game of the year by a month into November and have the PS4 launch days within it.

All the correct steps have been taken so far to dethrone Microsoft, and a head start would one of the ways to secure a flawless launch. I trust Kaz with what he is doing. After all, he was in the PlayStation division for over fifteen years!

What I really need to know is whether services like Amazon Instant Video and Netflix will be available day one of launch on the PS4 - so that i know whether I can move the PS3 from my main setup or not.

Damn, I have been so caught up with work that it flew totally by me that Gamescom is next week already.

I just received a report. "insert speculation here" #amidoingitright

I just received a report. "PS4 November 19 release" #amdoingitright

October is a bit early, but there is always hope.

I would not count on that, Notch himself has suggested that it could become on other platforms rather easily.

The fact that it isn't is more telling. You think that Sony or Nintendo don't want it on their platforms? Sony's been sending the dude rare stuff for quite a while now (like a sealed copy of Dungeon Master 2) and nothing has come of it.

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
Somebody care to explain the last thousand posts lol.

Basically it boils down to:

  • Naughty Dog is doing stuff
  • Sony Santa Monica is doing stuff
  • Guerrilla Games is doing stuff
  • Others at Sony are doing stuff
  • PS4 is going to be released somehow
And maybe we will see stuff. Or maybe not.

Perhaps he's porting his next game onto Sony platforms? I don't think Sony would send him a Vita and a load of games for nothing. He also got a gold PSone.

Nah I just think Sony didn't remember to check the piece of news about how much the dude made last year.

Yeah, looks like Sony were sweet talking Notch to get Minecraft on PlayStation consoles at one point but it also looks like Microsoft got in there and locked down further exclusivity before anything could happen. I wouldn't count on Microsoft letting that money printer go.

Maybe PS4/Vita could get Scrolls, I guess.

I'm ok with Sony holding back on releasing the goods on their heavy-hitter exclusives until next year. Why? There are gonna be a ton of 3rd party titles to keep us busy for the next 2 years. Sure, it would be nice to know the goods on Uncharted 4, The Last of Us 2, or any other not revealed games, but why reveal those now, when the first 3 shipments of the PS4 are already gonna sale out? Haven't ya'll watched Dragonball Z? You never go Super Saiyan at the very beginning of the fight!

The problem with holding back too much is that it leads to the inevitable "Sony haz no gamez" mentality that becomes ingrained on all the gaming websites. Like with the Vita, despite everyone in the Vita owners thread complaining about their backlogs.

Damn, please be October! (In UK ;) )
Or earlier even! (In UK ;) )

Would be funny if it is was like.
Ready for October?
Pfff, get ready for... NOW!

Saudi Arabia and Middle East certainly will get PS4 after is it launched in US and UK. Plus Middle East comes under PAL region same as UK and EU So it is probably they are looking at the actual launch of PS4 and not region specific, IMO.

FIFA 14 is releasing in September 26 for current gen. Many people in Europe can't wait and will buy FIFA as soon as possible, once people buy FIFA for current gen, they may not bother upgrading to nextgen or wait for the next gen FIFA a month later. It would be huge if Sony can release PS4 at the same time FIFA releases in September 26th, lots of FIFA buyers would end up buying PS4 with nextgen FIFA instead of current gen FIFA.

Basically PS4 release should be
September 26th - United States and United Kingdom, as well as Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Spain, and New Zealand
November - Japan, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and Switzerland

Ok not to rain on the parade we're building here, but is that youtube account officially from Sony?
Hard to tell, but it's been around for at least 4 months and has been doing (mostly liking) stuff that seem in line with an official Playstation account.
