Guerilla: Killzone: Shadow Fall's multiplayer is 60 FPS, singleplayer is 30 FPS

i-is that...the same kid? O_O

Sony are winning me over with their exclusives now.

Drive Club PSN+ Edition for free, upgrade to full version for cheap and also get 3 months PSN+ for free

Killzone Shadowfall more open and tactical single player, 60FPS Multiplayer, all future DLC free

Rime looks like my type of game

inFamous Second Son just keeps on looking better and better every time they show it.

Res0gun looks great plus it's free with PSN+

Planetside 2 looks like a blast and it's F2P

Planetside is not a fun game atm. It might be fun by this time next year....

I would take Warhawk 2.0 over PS2

so can we do a 2 player split-screen on multiplayer mode then? Or PS4 wont be able to handle that? Dont mind if it goes back 30FPS.

This is great news and a perfect combo if single player does indeed look a lot better. Another option would be able to have a dynamic resolution for single player that you could turn on or off in the settings.

You know what? Makes sense. Go for eye candy and rocksolid 30s on SP, and 60fps on MP. Now tell me you're going to keep me hooked on multi longer than KZ2 and 3, please. I had so much fun with them, and yet they felt "dry" so soon after everything was unlocked.

well the MP has everything unlocked from the get go with MP based challenges you can complete + all MP DLC maps will be free for everyone

GG's has come out swinging this Gamescom

Not to mention KZ Merc being so damn good in the beta

I'm of the opinion that Planetside 2 is a ton of fun in a squad; the core gameplay is great.

The only thing it's missing is an overarching goal, as it kind of feels like defending and taking over compounds is ultimately useless.

Holy shit at the kid lol.

Anyway, shouldn't the title say 'targeting 60fps'? At least I didn't see them confirm 60fps in the OP anywhere...

Man, and since they said that the weighty feel is back, what excuse will the "input lag" people will have?!

This is great news. Let the SP be a 'wow' factor for people who like it and let the MP be as fluid as possible.

This is one of the biggest wows I've ever done. Damn!
What in the actual fuck o.o

Killzone 2's "weight" was a direct result of input lag, which a lower fps does contribute to.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-lag-factor-article
That article is mainly about input lag measuring, and giving props to the low latency of 60fps games. Killzone 2 actually has about an average amount of input lag for a 30fps game. The article even says that 100ms is the "potential" minimum for 30fps, while Killzone 2 sits at 150ms, GTAIV at 166ms, and Heavenly Sword at a dramatic 300ms. That's all the examples they give.

The problem is that a lot of people confuse Killzone 2's slower acceleration with input lag. I don't remember it clearly, but I think heavier weapons like rocket launchers added even more weight and made turning even slower.

Mirror's Edge is a good example of a first-person game with weight. The main character can turn pretty fast in that game, but the heavier the gun she picks up, the slower her acceleration becomes. Killzone 2 had a similar feeling of weight and heaviness to its controls to add to its realism. A huge contrast from series like CoD that have absolutely no weight and let you spin around like it's nothing.
Why not expect locked 60fps? They said that's what they're targeting, which means they aren't at that point yet, whichs means what we are seeing today isn't what they want by launch. And the fact they're getting in that ballpark in this Gamescom build means they could get to that locked 60fps by launch.

The developer's quote in the OP says they're aiming for 60fps, but he didn't say it would be locked. In most cases, we assume that would mean a locked 60fps, but we have footage of the game running at an unlocked framerate that's up and down. So i'll play it safe and assume that's the way it'll run until Guerrilla says otherwise, or I see it for myself.

I'm just keeping expectations in check really.

Is this correct? I wasn't paying as much attention as I should have, but from the GC MP trailer, the impression I got was that you would unlock some kind of points by completing different challenges, points you would spend to unlock stuff (as per usual). Maybe I dreamt that up, but it seems a fairly radical departure for a contemporary MP shooter to throw out the whole unlock/progression system..?

hmm maybe I misunderstood it then. Pretty sure all the guns are unlocked from the get go for MP tho.

Can someone clarify?

You unlock abilities and attachments for your guns but all guns are unlocked

Right, thanks for clearing that up TimeEffect! Sounds like a good compromise - it's kinda silly, but if absolutely everything was unlocked from the start the game would probably have less legs for me.

Stuff like Goldeneye and Halo 2 didn't have unlockables and I put more time into those than I have in any modern day FPS. To me it's all about the actual gameplay. To each his own :)

I'm hoping the legs come from the modes, maps, and straight up competitive gameplay.

I'm actually a little upset that they locked away abilities and attachments and would rather that they made those challenges contribute towards various permanent badges on your profile (like in Counter Strike GO).

I'm incredibly worried about attachments like incendiary rounds and grenade launchers, but I appreciate the unlocked guns.

Everything I hear about this game just makes me want it. Amazing graphics, free MP maps, and now 60fps in multi. However the game just looks sao damned boring :( .. I hope some more footage as the weeks go on shows something a bit more interesting.

Single Player 30fps, Multiplayer 60fps . . .

Wise choice. This is also how I play Crysis 3.
I hope it becomes a trend honestly. I don't think it's realistic to aim for 60 FPS with everything, or maybe even the best choice for most games. I'll take a nicer looking game with more effects for campaigns, and then more responsiveness for competitive play.

Yeah, I remember those times as well, and I'm not saying the current way of doing things is objectively better (in fact it's probably objectively worse), but the unlock progression system is a psychologically powerful hook. If there was nothing like it in a big MP shooter like KZ the change would probably be a bit jarring to a lot of people now used to this way of doing things. :)

There should be more tampons in gaming
The MP screenshots they showed didnt look downgraded at all.

They looked better than some of the SP screenshots we've seen.

What does that say of the single player for the next time that we sit it demoed? Pants will be crapped. The game will likely end up surpassing it's model renderings, which the mp looks on par with already. It's just insane what we are witnessing

The lack of any footage from GC is getting stupid. Its already the 22nd and open to the public. Is the game not playable to the public? I mean, we're getting BF4 footage.

Agreed. I like being immersed in SP games and sometimes more eye candy can add to that. No one is really ever immersed or caring all that much about visuals in SP, let that be as responsive as possible. 60fps for all console games is a tall order that's just setting up for disappointment but 60fps for MP can definitely happen. I think we'll see more games follow suit, at least from Sony's first party.
