Seeing so much love for FFX is weird. When it came out, it was nothing but FF fans complaining that it wasn't anything like 7 (As has been the case since 7..) and people almost went to Square HQ to murder whoever thought up wakka and blitzball. Sure, a few people liked it, but it was mostly regarded as 'meh' and a death of the franchise (As has been the case since..).

FFX has always kind of been love or hate it seems. Sort of like FFXIII, which has a fair number of fans but of course a lot of people who didn't care for it. I think that the FFX "love or hate" seems more balanced. It's never been as highly regarded as VI, VII, or IX.

At least that's how I perceive it.

This is all anecdotal. With that said, VII and X definitely are the two most popular installments, even though they do have haters.

Hell, GameFAQs voted FFX the game of the decade a few years ago.

if this isn't coming out until 2014, it frustrates me that it is a ps3 release. it should be on ps4 as well. lack of cross-buy along with a 2014 release would mean square is only getting money from me for the vita version.

I still think it will be release 2013...SE should put full effort into getting this game to the released this year. Even if they have to get some people off other projects to speed up the development.

Well, as you've just read an SE rep is saying probably not. And they're definitely not going to pull from other teams to speed up development on this. I love the game, but it's just an HD port; it can wait. It's not like FFXIV (or FFXV, hopefully) where getting it done and out the door is paramount.

Right, I didn't mean for my post to be anything other than my perceptions. But now that you said that, I dug this up from March 2012. GAF's Final Fantasy vote.

*Reminder of scoring system: #1 got 4 points. #2-3, 3 points. #4-6, 2 points. #7-10, 1 point. Entries with less than 5 games counted for half as many points.
*I wasn't a stickler about the format. All you bojos who used Roman numerals, or didn't use the semicolon to separate your comments, or didn't number your entries: you're welcome. Special wrench-in-the-gear nod to those who were willing to use 1-9, but insisted on X in place of 10.
*For the odd entry that went past 10, I just ignored the further positions. In the individual images below a #11 counts as a not charting..
*For the hate entries that went from 9th place to 100000th place or whatever, I just cut the last ones rather than counting them as next in line.
*500 voters had 5 or more entries, 34 more listed 1-4.
*Final Fantasy VI and VII were the only ones with more #1 votes than not to be voted on at all. VI is the only one with just a single #10 vote.

First, simply how many times did games get voted on at all?
1.png

Not in every case, but as a rule of thumb games with more votes at all ended up with more points, too. Though notably, one of those exceptions becomes the #1 game.
2.png

That's right, the winner is Final Fantasy VI!
Ff6-logo.jpg

Final Fantasy VI and VII were the only ones with more #1 votes than non-votes. VI is the only one with just a single #10 vote.

Here's how the point totals worked out:
1. Final Fantasy VI 1316.5
2. Final Fantasy VII 1230.5
3. Final Fantasy IX 1099
4. Final Fantasy X 901
5. Final Fantasy XII 889
6. Final Fantasy VIII 821
7. Final Fantasy IV 788.5
8. Final Fantasy V 588
9. Final Fantasy XIII 356.5
10. Final Fantasy 269
11. Final Fantasy X-2 247
12. Final Fantasy XI 188.5
12. Final Fantasy III 188
13. Final Fantasy XIII-2 156
14. Final Fantasy II 98
15. Final Fantasy XIV 16

I wanted to show off how many times each game got each rank. An image per game was too much, and one with everything was too busy, so I split it by generation. I wanted to include the number for unlisted, too, but those tended to be much higher than the individual places and really dominated the view.

If you didn't like the scoring method, want to sift through for any correlations, whatever, here's the data, as it is after being fixed for format, and before I threw it into a spreadsheet to do the number-crunching.

They haven't said much about the Vita version at all. It's still coming though, that much I know.

But it's not possible to put both games on a single card correct? So it must be a case with 2 carts in it or having them sold in separate cases which would be less likely. I need the space in the Memory Card hence why my curiosity of a Physical Version.

Either I'm not even sure if I should keep my hopes up since I'm in Europe. And 2013 is out of the question probably.

Yes, they will be two separate releases.

Thank you both for answering fellow GAFfers.

All the "If" we are getting a Physical release and at what price is making this a little unfortunate to me. Such a shame, I wanted to come back for some good old nostalgia values but I have no idea what's going on with all the silence regarding the release date, Physical release on Vita and the price.

I'd be more likely to get the Vita versions alongside the PS3 package if they were physical.

Same. It has to be a Physical release on Vita for me.

That isn't the same as overall popularity though, simply because a lot more people have played FFX than FFVI and probably FFIX too.

Since VII, FF has been "shit" to a certain subset of fans (with the exception of IX, which gets a free pass because it panders to a large base of nostalgists)

X kind of marked the set in stone fact that SE was done with "classic" FF and would be using the series for experimentation more and more, which drove the old-school adherents nuts

Physical copy of this might push me over to purchase a Vita too.

btw, has there been any word on if the cutscenes and big talk scenes can be skipped? Seem them plenty of times since the game came out, so...

My impressions from PAX: in-game looks pretty. New music also sounds pretty good. Same voice actors as the original game being used. Love the new interface.

But the CG movies seem to suck. I saw jaggies all over the place. I don't think they remade any if the CG. Also, it doesn't look like they will update the lips too to match the voices.

The Square Enix rep also said that the game is most likely coming out in 2014 in NA and they still don't have a release date.

I didn't care for X a whole lot when it first came out, but it was hardly having anything to do with "not being like VII." Besides XIII has caused several people, myself included, to rethink our opinion on X. I mean, sure, X wasn't perfect, but at least it came across as a Final Fantasy game. X also had a great combat system, beautiful music, and a neat take on the summon system. None of which XIII had.

The characters/setting are rather hit or miss. I still think Tidus is one of the worst protagonists in the series, but most of the other heroes are interesting enough. The world never came across as authentic to me, but I blame a large part of that on the path you take through the game, and the lack of transition between one type of terrain to another. It was also fairly straight as far as where one went, which hurt the sense of immersion. Still, many of the landscapes were beautiful, weren't single corridors, and I didn't have to stare at an enemy to figure out what FF enemy it was supposed to represent. I wasn't huge on the Sphere Grid when it came out, but it was different and much better than XII or XIII's leveling system.

X-2 was... yeah.

Still, I hope these sell well so that we get FFXII (ZBJS) HD over here.

Not meaning to bash on XIII btw, just explain why it's more popular.

Only SE could take longer than 2 years to make a HD remaster.

I'm okay with this considering the effort put into it blows pretty much every other HD remaster out of the water. They could have easily just upscaled the original NTSC release to 720p without bothering to touch up anything, threw in some trophies and called it a day. But they're giving us so much more.

PS4. SE already has three titles coming to the system before its even launched, so it's not like they're concerned with how big the install base is or anything.

Big publishers in general are going all out with the new gen (at least PS4/X1). It seems they are afraid of the console market shrinking. So yes, it will probably just come out in PS4 and maybe Vita. Just like KH 2.5. And i'd be pissed if they don't let me have both KH collections in 1 console.

I like the fact that they take it so seriously and I have no problem in waiting a little more. Is a game that i've already played, so I'll buy it because of the nostalgia. And because it will be cool to keep the game in my shelve besides it's PS2 brother. FF X-2 doesn't bother me that much, but I'll probably but it is it means SE is going to publish more games in Vita.

hmm I've been thinking...what if the vita version is delayed and the PS3 version comes out? that's possible right? I think thats the way its looking TBH PS3 version release may be September or December. Vita version may be January.

You're way too optimistic :p

It's funny in that I really want to know what the release date is, but at the same time don't have an urge to play it. Still haven't started Xillia yet, and with KH 1.5 and the likes of GTAV, GT6 and Beyond, I doubt I'd have time to play it anytime soon. And that's just PS3, never mind other platforms

It's better that they take their time, so that they can replace all the placeholder and old effects and textures with upgraded assets and tweak the facial expressions.
I prefer to wait and then play a game that is as close as possible to a remake, instead of having the game 2-3 months earlier just to complain about what's wrong.

I prefer to play games rather than listen to announcements of games that may or may not be in development then teased for years to come but that's just me :/

Nothing was worse than getting excited for Versus XIII and The Last Guardian several times year after year.

It seems Sony have apparently learned their lesson in how they are handling PS4 games with a more than likely shorter gap between announcement and release. Hopefully Square do the same as well, although in KH3's case it may have happened already

I much prefer X's combat to XIII. I just wish the main game was a little more difficult.

I prefer the music as well.
