Is somebody really going to make their choice on which system to buy based on which wont make them wait a couple weeks? I'm sure there'll be a few, but it cant be that big a deal, surely?

Yeah, it's not a big deal. But it could push some over the edge if one console is out earlier and people already play and give impressions, stream about it etc. It was the reason I got me a Wii U because everyone played ZombiU, which turned out to be a great game.

Out of interest, why would the date you've heard not be right? You work in retail, retail has presumably been briefed this morning (GAME certainly suggested this was the case).
You could expect retail to now know, or not. What's the confusion?

I think a lot of people are overlooking the potential for a royal clusterf--- with regards to the day 1 update the system is going to require out of the box. Hopefully their 300,000 server network will mitigate this, but correct me if I'm wrong on something:
Most games that use servers, aka MMOs and such, have separate "patch" servers that aren't there for gameplay and simply serve to push client patches when people first connect, after which time they are then routed to the gameplay servers.
If this is the case, and if MS's server setup is similar, I really... REALLY hope there aren't massive bottlenecks with everyone trying to connect right away to download the update. Otherwise there could be a lot of frustrated gamers and more bad PR since it can't play games offline "out of the box", and it also won't be able to connect online just to play games because the update will be required to connect to liv, if it's akin to current 360 dashboard updates.
I'm just thinking worst case scenario obviously. Hopefully they've allocated enough servers for the patch process, or even better the entirity of the Xbox Live network that is allocated to Xbox One will be capable of pushing the update instead of the way I think MMOs work.
Disclaimer: I'm not a techno guru so I may be completely off on my assumptions about how the patch process works.

Either way I'm curious about the differences from NA to Europe, for the PS4 it's only a couple of weeks which, comparing to the previous gen, is better this time around.
