I am all set. Bring on those two glorious weekends.

Has anyone's amazon pre order updated with the correct date yet? Mine still shows 11/27

Same trick that worked for the PS4 works for the ONE: Go to your order and choose "Change shipping speed." "Two Day" is release date delivery.

cboat mentioned a $399 sku next year. Probably alongside TitanFall i'd imagine.

He actually said it's one of the potential strategies they would consider if sales were bad early on, not that it is actively planned yet.

But this is a reactive strategy, and not a particularly sound one either... at $399 minus Kinect, they'd just have a system that is weaker than PS4 for the same price. Not only that, but Cerny and company have repeatedly said one of the lessons they learned from PS3 is that it's important to have the ability to rapidly decrease in price... so that's one of the things they made sure PS4 is capable of. So Sony could just react in turn if it actually started to make waves.

But I don't think Sony will require that sort of reaction even if Microsoft dropped the price to $399.99. They are on incredibly solid ground right now strategically.

They are better off at $399 since early adopters don't really like kinect. Also Sony wouldn't drop the price already so quick especially since it will be a long generation.

They are better off not confusing the market any further, frankly. I'd be glad of it, of course, because it makes whenever I get an XBO more palatable - I was going to toss the Kinect in the trash anyway. Wasteland technology right there.

Don't toss it in the trash. What are you daft?

You hook it to your PC and download some crazy unsanctioned software hacks for it, of course! I bet it makes for a nifty home security/automation device.

When is Black Friday this year?

And why do they launch so late, it's just chaos filled with shortages, logistical issues all through the Christmas season with these November launches. It's launching in PAL territories also! C'mon

Nearly every November (and late October) launch is plagued with shortages and pipeline shipment problems:

PS2 10.26.00 NA & PAL launch simultaneously - failed to ship what was promised, massive shortages, chaos, anarchy, riots...everywhere [that's what I remember] 1.1m sold US; 1.5m promised

XB 11.15.01: SMOOTHE launch thanks to NA only release. 1.4m sold without much of a hitch, minor shortages.

GC 11.18.01 some shortages, due to sales surging in Japan thanks to SSB DX but shipments were good thanks to a September launch in Japan and holding off PAL til the following March. 1.2m sold

X360 11.22.05 Major shortages! Nearly simultaneous WW launch. A major disaster as only 610,000 sold in the US that holiday.

^looks the same for Xbone with a (nearly) worldwide launch, can they really do better this time?

PS3 11.17.06 no hitches that I'm aware of thanks to its 3DO-esque price range but then no PAL release til following March. 690,000 sold

Wii 11.19.06: Disaster, a nearly worldwide launch, shortages everywhere (and alas for the next three years also, the situation may not be comparable). NoA did well given this situation selling 1.0m by Christmas Day.

I do not understand why the September launch window has been abandoned for a WW black friday/late November release.

If we may compare with these smoother launches:

SNES Fall 1991 launch 9.9.91 [gaming outlets received their first systems a few weeks earlier) - no shortages at Christmas. 1.4m sold; NoA was able to ship 2.1m. PAL launch the following Spring. Smooth

PSX 9.9.95 we wont' compare for obvious reasons

N64 9.26.96 Heavy shortages at first but NoA was able to significantly ramp up their shipment goals from th original 1.5m planned to 2.2m. 2m were sold!!! In just over three months!
N64 still holds that record. PAL launch the following spring. Fairly smooth release despite EVERYONE wanting one.

DC 9.9.99 Record launch numbers, shipments were steady through the holiday with a PAL launch. 1.55m shipped and 1.48m sold. Smooth

I'm amazed today that the big three believe they can pull off these late-WW launches.

I may just be ranting to rant but these late-WW launches have been a b*tch to smoothly operate.
Let's go back to September (for US) and possibly Oct-Nov for PAL, and Dec for Japan.

Question: Has anyone had any experience with Walmart and Bestbuy with regards to in-demand preorders? Do they ship on or close to release date like Amazon or is in store pick-up better? If I choose in store pick-up will they hold it for me or is it first come first serve?

I don't have any need of that. And I can't resell the Kinect for Xbox One since every system will have it, so it's pretty useless.

Most stores do it by a first come, first serve basis through the preorders, rather than delegating a specific system to you. So even if you preordered the first day it became available for you to do so, you'll still need to be near the head of the line to have the same level of comfort. You'll still be guaranteed a system from them and that location (and possibly a Day One Edition if that's how it works between retailers and Microsoft) because you paid down, but they'll likely run through the preorder stock due to not receiving enough systems to fulfill.

That's my understanding of Best Buy preorder policies when it comes to big ticket items like consoles.

Edit: DMPrince stated that some Wii U preorders were held, so this could vary by region or could be a factor of the difference in demand and preorder policies between that system and the upcoming ones.

My Best Buy straight up said they will be held. They will set aside a set number for Preorders, then sell the rest on the shelf. I wouldn't worry if anyone has one at Best Buy (I do, that's why I asked them). My Best Buy is very competent so I am not going to worry. They have done this with WiiU's and Samsung Galaxy Phones.

thks for the insight

That Forza Bundle pushed me over the edge. I just couldn't help myself.

Black Friday is really late in November this year, Nov 29 iirc.

Xbox One isn't even remotely close to a "nearly worldwide launch", so that won't be the issue. PS4 launching in 32 countries before the end of the year, XBO launching in 13. And PS4 has a much higher launch allotment too.

It's more about your ability to manufacture systems over holiday season launches then anything; there's only so many systems one can make if your system ends up being popular.

That said, not all launches end up that way. Look at the Wii U example I listed; a brisk first few weeks, then I and many others saw them everywhere after that. Holiday wasn't even over yet.

Getting Xbox One Kinect for Windows costs $400.

So yeah, not very smart. :)

Is the PC version of Kinect supposed to convince anybody than the Xbox One version of Kinect is going to be able to sell for a lot? It comes with every system. You won't be able to take the Kinect out and sell it to PC users for $400, $300, $200 or even $100. Absurd point altogether, really. So it's really completely useless for me.

tsc tsc. Shameful performance.

I wonder if they will do another PS2 kind of price cut and drop it by a whopping $100 a couple years after launch. They seem to be the only company out of the big three that can comfortably do a price drop on their system without incurring any sort of major loss.

I haven't found this anywhere, but is it possible to have a skype video call running whilst playing Battlefield 4, for example?

Don't quote me on it, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that you can't. But you can when watching TV.

Either way, it never made much sense to me to shrink down the usable area of your screen.

But different strokes for different folks, I guess

Edit: Sorry for the double post.

You really didn't think that was a little bit funny?

Sure, it was funny. I just thought it was unnecessary because we're having a nice discussion here, but it's not important :p

I think the ball is in their court, strategically. They will react as the market needs... if the PS4 is slowing down dramatically, they'll respond as necessary. Which is a good place to be. You don't want to be in a position where you have your back against the wall and the only choice is incurring massive new losses or letting the system die, you know? *cough* Wii U *cough*

Can I ask you BF COD players out there that are getting both systems a question.

I have both systems pre ordered. I have BF4, and Ghosts pre ordered for Xbox. Is there anyone out there tempted to get COD and BF for the PS4 in order to play it one week earlier?

Im really at a crossroads right now. What do I do?

I know I will have a problem either way.

It's only a week. Also don't forget you can get the 360 version and get $50 credit when changing it to the x1 version once it's out.

I am going to wait a week and get COD on XB1. I have a bunch of people on my FL that I plan to play it with.

You get the same going from the PS3 to PS4 version.

Plus the PS4 version of both games are almost guaranteed to have better graphics and loads of people are loving that controller or FPSs.

This post makes want to puke.

Are you known for chronic over reactions? Because I wasn't really being harsh in that post at all.

I am just telling him about that since he seems to want to get the xbox version. Also both version will look the same and fps are associated more with xbox.

Have you seen both versions? I'm seriously asking because I haven't and I'm just going off the fact that PS4 is a decent amount more powerful.

We shall see I suppose. It may take a year or so for the differences to really pop up.

Though I think it says quite a bit that the version of BF4 (and just about every multiplat game) shown at Gamescom at EA's booth was the PS4 version (unless I was fed bum info).

Edit: But anyway, this is an Xbone celebration thread, so I'll drop the PS4 stuff.

Enjoy everyone! I really do hope you like your shiny new Xbones!:)

I am not; I will play BF4 on PS4 and Ghosts on Xbox One simply because most I know are playing BF4 on PS4 and Ghosts on Xbox One.

I'm going off what John Carmack said. He said they are essentially identical. The BF 4 footage is from the PC version along with even need for speed.

He doesn't know what he's talking about

Skype. Display full HD, 1080p Skype video calls specially designed for Xbox One and, for the first time ever, have group Skype calls on your TV. Split the TV screen to join a multiplayer battle while hosting a Skype video chat with friends and family.

At Gamescom, all the controllers that weren't PC versions were PS4. Unless they were one of those games that had a deal with MS.

Or so I have read/seen in pics. But if I'm wrong, feel free to show me. I'm more than happy to admit when I'm wrong.
