14 minutes of open world Watch Dogs gameplay [hacking, combat, driving]

Can you drag bodies in this game? Like does it have a real stealth mechanic or is a fake?

Nope it's a faux stealth game. You're limited to takedowns and a cover system basically.

I'm not even sure if guards can spot the bodies you take down or if they disappear in 10 seconds.

The hacking looks like a cheap gimmick by now, because it doesn't add any new choices to the game besides adding an extra button press to everything you do. Of course you're going to hack the bridge to get away from pursuers. Of course you're going to hack the forklift to get to the roof. Of course you're going to hack the mobile cover to get into a good firing position.

By making the hacking compulsory, it's no longer special, it's just another mundane gameplay mechanic.

Plus it feels like they've shown everything you can hack in the game too. I'm already no longer impressed or amused by him scanning every random person, or hacking cameras on people's laptops and spying on them. I've already seen it a dozen times.

I don't know if I should get this on 360 or wait another few months for Xbox one? Does it even have a real next gen release date?

It's coming out at launch for PS4 and Xbone, there's no reason to get the PS3/360 versions unless you absolutely can't wait a week or two.

Awesome thanks. Amazon had it listed as December. Must not have updated it! Definitely will wait :)

About the no guns thing... I think Ubi is really set on letting you RP Aiden how you want. If you want be a dick and shoot everyone and throw down ieds, that's cool, you'll just get a bad rep. Alternatively, we've seen that awesome stick thing Aiden has that just allows for beating the shit out of people with, non lethally.

Which looks awesome btw.

Excited for this game. Excited for GTA more, but the idea that we get to basically explore an open world LA, Chicago, and Carribean this fall is awesome to me.

Wouldn't surprise me if the car doors are locked so you can't snatch the criminals out and bypass the whole chase.

I bet they just did it for the video. I've seen Aiden shoot out tires, he could have easily done that, but they wanted to chase/move to a new part of the city. I bet you can wound them with the gun too.

Also, from the footage it seems as though guards only become aware when a forklift truck moves, not the lift he operated to get onto the roof or the cover he raised while on the roof.

Whaaaat? You can't incapacitate criminals via knee-capping? Why would they not include that? Force you to carry out a chase sequence?

Not forcing a chase sequence but awesome killing animations that will test your morality!

If you are getting hacked, why not pull the battery from your phone? That would make for an interesting mission where you had to play without your magic powers.

It's coming out a few days earlier on the PS4 than PS3/360 actually lol.

Even better. I have PS4 and Watch_Dogs pre-ordered, but haven't seen any confirmation as to whether or not the PS4 version would be out on 11/15 or if we'd have to wait until the 19th like everyone else.

God you guys are judging this game so damn hard 2 months before it's even out. Come on people, christ.
Just talking about the footage shown.

Would you make the same point if we were all seriously impressed with it? Or is it only a rush to judgment when views are less positive?

I think the PVP looks promising for what its worth, but I'd like to see more. What was shown here was pretty limited and almost random in intent.

Sigh... I was so excited the first time I saw this game.
Now with every new video that is released I realize that it's going to be just a modern Assassins Creed and I'm losing more and more interest.

Pretty typical stuff it seems like, yeah you can hack everything but most of it is pointless. The NPC's just witnessed you mowing down a bunch of guys from a roof top and nothing even happens? No one yells at you or screams or gets out of your way? In the future you can hack everything and the general public has no emotion to dead people either! Amazing stuff.

"You can't hack anything yet because you haven't taken control of ctOS."

*proceeds to hack a bunch of shit before taking control of ctOS*

Also, gets into a massive shootout with no police response or reactions from anyone outside of the facility.

Was hoping for some progress in the genre beyond just graphics...

It looks awesome, but after playing Blacklist I know that anything less than an open world version of the stealth/assault flexibility available in that game will end up disappointing me. Watch Dogs feels like it's still leaning a little too much towards the Ass Creed style of things. I still also really want to know what the vertical traversal limits of this game are. Specifically, Can you use all those fire escapes or climb any of those pipes running up the sides of the buildings?

Did they ever say what platform the E3 2013 build was being played on? Because that looked alright to me.

Just rewatching it off Gamersyde and the difference is very noticable:

Poly count is too low, animation is identical to current-gen, too few cloth physics. Utterly lacks the wow of something like Infamous Second Son that really looks next-gen.
I don't see anything "wow" in Infamous SS but ok...

Hey, amir0x. I'm late to this thread, but next time you should check a user's post history before falling for the bait. Metroid-Squadron is an xbottle troll. A bad one at that.
Said by a guy with a Kaz-ified avatar... yeah...

Can't say the video massively excited me. Quite the opposite in fact...
I think my hype for this game has steadily deteriorated since the initial reveal.

No, I'm talking about some posts that seem as if they know the complete context of all the actions of the player or story elements within the game, or act as if we've seen everything the game has to offer in its hacking mechanics or side missions. That's just jumping to conclusions way too fast.

A decade ago, I would have gone absolutely bonkers for a game like this.

But now, it just makes me feel really, really tired. I feel like I know exactly how it will play out, what I'll spend my time doing moment to moment, how one element will blend into the next, how all of the features will overlap, etc. I've done all of this before in a million different ways in a million different settings.

It's pretty and polished as hell, but we desperately need a new paradigm for open world games.

It's crazy how hyped I was for this game when it was first announced. That was almost two years ago I think? I lost too much interest in this. Lol.

My hype only recently jumped back up to over 10,000 because the new season of person of interest starts in a couple weeks.

Ugh. I really don't understand how I was so excited for this game at first and now it just looks so bland to me.

Gameplay and graphics/art just look OK at best. I guess what we saw at first was just a really pretty looking PC version of the game? Colors seem so dull ; ;

Also, maybe they should've made it so you actually had to do some sort of hacking instead of just pressing a button? Seems like that could get boring pretty fast. Its not that much different than just walking up to something and pressing A in any other game.

As Nik said, it's the PC build. It was used for a press tour back in April/May - here's an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpXEstKNRQI

Why exactly are you guys showing 4-5 month old code in September? Is it that hard to get a new capture on a recent build? I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just saying it doesn't do you guys any favors...

Eitherway, I still have my pre-order ready for PS4 and I'll continue to look at this game.

I really hope they got Chicago right because so far, it seems more faux Chicago...

For one thing, I'm worried if they got the the atmosphere of Chicago right.

It was mentioned earlier in the thread but hacking being more than a button press wouldn't work with all the multitasking required. You can't stop the player for a minigame when they're driving or trying to shoot.

Why does Aiden run like he has shit running down his pants?

#dead

Can't unsee that now. His full sprint animation is a little funny.

Game looks very good graphically, especially the beautiful soft shadows, but I can't say I'm not a bit disappointed in it. It does seem to look worse with every new piece of gameplay.

Heh yeah, I was thinking the same thing, along with why he had to/wanted to shoot all the guards when he coulda just stealthied all the way through.
Don't know about progress but the hacking aspect looks fun as hell to me.

We will monitor the reviews.

I love seeing how many people hate on this game. Cool, you're not getting the game. We get it. We understood that from your 100 other posts on how this game is too similar to AC or that certain aspects of the game suck. Thank you for sharing that with us over and over. People who do want the game understand its shortcoming without needing you to highlight them in every Watch Dogs thread.

You're the equivalent of the person who attends every party, but who complains about them non-stop. Move on.

Graphically not to impressive. A lot of shadow noise, pop-in and stuttering. As people have pointed out it might be an old build, but I'm always judging based on the latest media shown.

Of course I'm getting it since I'm a sucker for open world games!
