Media Create Sales: Week 35, 2013 (Aug 26 - Sep 01)

I take back what I said. PS4 launching this fall would be bad considering most the titles will not be ready. There were quite a few announcements for PS4, surprised by the support from smaller devs already, so it seems third party are on board. Deep Down looked great just need to see more combat but solid title.

PS4 is definitely looking stronger than the PS3 at launch (Idolmaster!!!!!!! lol)

Level 5 can go die in a fire and Yakuza is cross gen. SE disappoint again, star ocean on Vita :(

Vita TV could really hurt Vita long term. If your content with playing at home its half the price and you can do everything the vita can.

That said im not surprised though.Sony is in money mode now. Vita being made cheaper to maximize profits and TV version is all about selling old games for maximum profit.

I'm not sure they care which of the models you buy. They're effectively the same platform.

You are right. really curious to see a breakdown of parts to see pricing and whats going to generate the most for them. It just seems like TV is in a way finally admitting defeat and surrendering the handheld area

I really think the Vita TV is going to hurt both the Vita and PS4 since someone can just pick it up for a way cheaper price than both.

Doesn't it only stream PS4 games to another TV? You'll still need a PS4.

As for hurting Vita, it pretty much is a Vita that plays with a DS3/DS4 which outputs to a TV. How they are going to incorporate front/back touch and camera's are another thing entirely though. Gyro is no problem for the Dualshock

There was also the incredibly awkward Lily Bergamo section.

The absence of a touch screen will greatly limit the games that are playable on it no?

Pretty much. In theory they could use the DS4's touch pad to emulate the touch screen. But with nothing to look at I can only foresee disastrous results there.

Hopefully it'll mean dev's abandon uses for both Vita touch panels. I hate them :p

You're missing the real game changers:

Totemo E Mahjong Plus (ASW)
Nikoli no Puzzle 4: Sudoku (Hamster)

And Natural Doctrine... well just look at everything here: http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/release/pdf/130909a.pdf

Yes, I think they basically are to an extent.

It's kind of clever in a way though since they can make a modern device (set top boxes, which we see Amazon and Google entering), and still sell a portable to what audience exists for it in Japan.

The main question to me is if they can round up more support for it now that it's also a cheap gaming platform. Phantasy Star is a good start, but I think they should start diving after Western developers who are interested in set top boxes to try and drum up support again, and any Japanese developers who might be humoring the idea as well.

They certainly don't have an easy path ahead, but at least they have something that resembles a path, unlike the current state of the Vita.

I just think that a $100 device that hooks up to your TV could be a potential threat in Japan but its kinda iffy.

As a side note the Vita TV is the type of device I think Nintendo should succeed the Wii U with.

Cheap ($100-$150), generally powerful enough (especially by the time the Wii U's life is over), can output to a TV, and still can accept whatever peripherals they want to use with it.

They can even base their handheld on similar parts and just upclock the ones in the box a la the iPad versus the iPhone.

Is the TV thing big in Japan. I remember people saying about Tsutaya and I'm glad they got NicoNico support. Pretty much buried XB1's chance in Japan.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
PS Vita TV at 100$ is without the controller, right?

Vita TV is a great way to push large memory cards as well, so that was definitely the main factor in its low price.
EDIT - Oh whoops, saw that it can play Vita cards, nevermind that then.

Mpl90

Correct.

$150 is with a controller and 8 GB memory card.

This means the 100$ SKU is for those who already owns a Vita/wants just a streaming device for their PS4. The 150$ one is for those who want to play Vita games too.

Another question: isn't PSVita 2000 the same price as OG Vita right now in Japan?

I actually suggested something similar in a different thread but at a higher ($200-250) pricepoint :p

Well the controller is a DualShock, so PS4 owners probably wouldn't buy the $150 version and would just get a larger memory card.

And to my knowledge, I believe the price is basically the same.

I think going over $200 would be too much since you start going above impulse level.

How will the trackers treat this VitaTV thing do you guys think? I'm assuming ignore it because it's a hybrid.

It's dedicated gaming hardware sold at a store, so I imagine it will be tracked.

I mean the all digital PSP Go got tracked.

True but I don't think Nintendo would create a situation where the home device is less expensive than the handheld. On the other hand, maybe that would actually be better in Japan.

I was actually more disappointed by the Vita's showing than the PS4 one.

Here the new titles they announced today from what I remember:

  • Phantasy Star Nova (2014)
  • Soul Sacrifice Delta (re-release with new features ) / March 2014 releases date and hinted at the possibility of a sequel in 2015.
  • Gundam Breaker (Oct 31, 2013), a port of the PS3 game.
  • Yakuza Ishin (Feb 2014), Also on PS3 and PS4.
  • Terraria Vita for Japan (2013??)
  • Danganronpa: Another Episode (2014)
  • New Deception/ Kagero game (no release date).

You forgot Samurai Warriors 4. And Yakuza Ishin could also be just the remote play from PS4.

I feel the pressure on Sony's conferences for the Vita is on the bigger titles.

They get a new lower tier Vita game announcement every 1-3 weeks out of Famitsu.

Phantasy Star Nova is a big deal, and Soul Sacrifice Delta is a decent announcement

1-2 more would have been preferable though on somewhat larger scale.

The end of that trailer teased Danganronpa 3 as well, though it's probably a long ways off.

I think it can only help the platform. If the Vita TV picks up, it will just mean there are going to be more games on the Vitas, whether it's the console or the handheld edition. In the end Sony really only cares about the software sales.

I really don't see the downside to this.

I haven't see it, 'cause my stream didn't function most of the time, but wasn't someone in this thread saying that Sega annunced that Yakuza is going to be a launch title, too?

Dissapointed ?

Phantasy Star Portable sold something like 500k on PSP
Soul expansion will be 100k+ seller
Yakuza should do nicely
Samurai Warriors is also quite big

Yeah Apple doesn't care if you play angry birds on ipad/iphone/ipod since you got software from their store anyway. Plus I see it as something very atractive to west not Japan - how often you hear that people only play handheld at home ?

added Lily Bergamo too. and Psycho Break and that SRPG game, if I miss anything say so.
Did we already know that indie game Pavilion was coming to PS4? To be honest, I might've missed that announcement among the recent Sony flurry of indie things.

Also, the Dream C Club game was a new version for PS4, I think. I don't remember seeing that exact title before, but I could be wrong here too; I don't keep up with the series.
