Ant Man moved up to Summer 2015

Makes sense, especially since Episode 7 now seems destined for a December 2015 release. The Disney marketing department is going to be running full steam for Star Wars, so moving all the Marvel fun into Summer makes sense. Plus, this will give it a significant boost, coming right off Avengers 2. Smart move all around.

It was originally opening the same day as Bond. That's why Marvel moved it.

Episode VII is not being released in December. Devin Faraci made up that fake rumor to give Badass Digest hits. Just like he made up the BS rumor about JJ Abrams quitting the movie.

I like batman and superman a lot more than marvel characters but I'm kinda hoping that movie tanks in it's second week so this can be a success

Edgar Wright's da gawd, and joe cornish's first movie was the best of the year

One things for sure. This film will have great action direction and a good script

I don't know that much about Marvel (comics), but could this mean they will let Ant-Man "create" Ultron, just like in the comics? I know Whedon is doing his own way of the Marvel universe, but it wasn't really possible before because it would be a phrase 3 movie(?)

(I have no idea how far they're in production, so don't shoot me).

God damn it I knew this would happen. Makes even less sense to not have Hank Pym in Avengers 2 creating Ultron. I love Iron Man but I hate this idea that hes the center of the universe.

Ant Man is still a Phase 3 movie even though it's coming out in 2015. It's the first movie of Phase 3.

Avengers movies end the "Phases". Avengers 3 will cap off Phase 3.

Hmm. Wasn't aware that was false info. I'm still fairly confident it'll miss the summer target though. They'd be in a better position to release in early December, keep the brand in full focus during the holiday toy season - then just let the film coast through the dead zone of early 2016. (Though then it might find itself up against Avatar 2. Which would take up valuable IMAX space. Hrm.)

Alan Horn, the guy who runs Walt Disney Studios stated that Episode VII is not a 2015 movie but a SUMMER 2015 movie. After the rumor. Devin Faraci has been dead wrong on every rumor of his so far.

Every studio is avoiding memorial day weekend 2015 since it is basically being held for Star Wars by Disney. It begins shooting in Jan and sets are being built right now. Star Wars is more than on schedule for summer 2015.

That's insanely close to Avengers 2 isn't it? I'm surprised.

more crazy how it is out just a few weeks after Batman vs. Superman. Ant Man can't survive that, Batman vs. Superman will dominate July. It is basically sent to die coming that close to a Batman movie. Next to Avengers/Iron Man Batman is the strongest name in comic book movies. Releasing Ant Man directly after a new Batman movie is a move that won't work in its favor. I want this movie to be a hit, fall was such a better place for it. Oh well.

Ant Man is the first 'new brand' in Marvel's cinematic continuity since the beginning of Phase 1, so putting it in the summer, so close to the inevitable high of Avengers 2 (unless things go horribly wrong) honestly makes sense.

Yeah, it being so close to Batman/Superman is dangerous, but I don't doubt that there'll be a bunch of fans ready and clammoring for Phase 3 news by the end of Avengers 2...

Exactly. Far too many people jumped on Devin's BS bandwagon because the controversy gave their sites page views. They're all going to look very stupid this November...

Also, Variety debunked it already.

Releasing in December 2015 is stupid because there are a ton of movies coming out then. May is wide open with no major release scheduled after Avengers on May 1st. December has a bunch of big movies, and family movies, scheduled for every big weekend.

I am not sure why people latched onto that when he was dead wrong on his Abrams leaving Star Wars rumor a month or so before that.

1988 - "I can't believe they're making a new movie out of Batman... that 60's show was so goddamn corny. It just sounds ridiculous."

Hmmm I wouldn't agree that the situation looked like that in 87-88. Michael Keaton got mass outrage at his casting because everyone wanted a serious dark Batman film and feared he would be corny like the 60's one since he was best known for Mr. Mom at the time In general people were hoping/expecting a darker take on Batman, not a 60's retread.

I'm kind of surprised that Disney would have Star Wars cut Avengers' legs off like that. I guess there isn't a better time to release it, but it still seems too close.

May 1st vs May 31st? Avengers will basically have 90% of its gross out of the way by that time.

I'll concede then. I think it'd do better numbers in December, but I guess that's why I don't run a studio.

Anywho, I don't think being up against Batman is a death sentence. It's got two weeks of breathing room, should be a completely different movie in tone, and will have the biggest movie of the summer working as its' own personal hype man. People will know about Ant Man. Don't worry.

How is ant man any sillier than Captain America and Thor? If anything if those movies did well Ant man is a breeze. The hardest part is going to be differentiating his character enough from Tony Stark.

Yeah, comic-fans were pissed about that casting, just as they always are. But the general public, the people who don't know or don't follow this stuff still had the image of Adam West as Batman, and probably didn't care what they did.

But, just like now, people who didn't follow comics probably just rolled their eyes at the stupidity of what the concept sounded like as opposed to comic fans who hear the same name and get excited for what it could end up being.

All I'm saying is just a superhero "sounding ridiculous" to non-comic fans is nothing new or unique.

I don't know, I really need this to be a hit. It's going to be excellent.

Wait.. Cornish is writing this?? Oh my God, Attack the Block was so much fun. Wright/Cornish assures that this movie is going to be a delight through and through.

Can't wait to hear who is starring.

Wtf nooo. This needs to be a success. It will be the GOAT comic book movie I can't see it flop

It was originally going to come out the same day as Bond. This will only help.

It wasn't completely wrong, JJ was contemplating leaving because of production issues but stuck with it. Devin's "scoop" hit the former but missed the latter, and after the whole situation had occurred. He was more late to the news than making the whole thing up.

It's releasing on Batman vs Superman's third weekend. These sort of movies are so front-loaded that I don't think it will be as huge a deal as some people are making it out to be. Especially if BvS ends up with Man of Steel's legs. Batman vs Superman opening 50% higher than Man of Steel, but with the same legs, gives you a third weekend of $31M.

I am not sure it will be too comparable to MoS however. Batman is a far bigger film character, that will play a lot into the gross. Especially when this looks to be Batman vs. Superman and not a MoS 2 featuring Batman.
