The Wonderful 101 |OT| Diplomacy has failed

A buddy of mine who games with me, locally (no pun intended), decided to make us some shirts while we wait for sunday to finally get here so we can at long last get our hands on the Wonderful 101.

He did the front up just like the one Kamiya was wearing:

I think he's going to silver foil the front print on his shirt, which might also look pretty cool.

And for the back, there's this:

Anyways, we're a little hyped that "day one" is almost upon us! Thought maybe someone might get a kick out of his little joke.
This is phenomenal, love the back!

The depth of strategy in this game is superb! I've finally learned how to play it properly. Unite Camp freezes the Combo Timer. I know that's big, but I've not managed to work it into my game properly yet. Knowing this game, there's some crazy way of using it correctly. The QTEs are case specific; some of them require a swing of the sword while others simply require you to hold it ready. I'm absolutely LOVING this game now! The more I learn, the better it gets!

I love the way the true depth of this game comes to you gradually. Each time you learn a new mechanic and see how intricately it fits in within the scoring system it completely changes the way you play the game, completely overwrites your thought process and makes you approach every enemy type differently. I love to be challenged mentally, each and every enemy encounter in this game is like a puzzle to solve, and there is no "correct" way to solve any of them. It's ALL about you!
I wish he had a GAF account :)

that little blurb is a better review than all the professional ones. not because he's in love with the game but he actually knows the game's intricacies and presents them in a way that lets people know who don't wanna invest that much that it's not for them without making it sound like the game is poorly done.

You know what I don't understand? Why the "removing the limiters" scene is always unskippable. I assume it must be masking loading, but I can't figure out what.

Yeah. I think the worst one is the first one when you are doing a rerun. If you want to play multiple times to get the best grade possible it's really awful to not only watch, but wait for the whole explanation.

Also, i totally understand the critique about the screen being a damn mess with so much people in there that you can't even see what's going on. Had a lot of trouble because of this.

Right now i'm totally stuck on the secret mission 006 in hard. Sounds almost impossible. 3 of those dragons in a little room. I've been trying this one for almost a week with no avail. Damn..

Strange review from GT. While the content was good, the editing felt off. Especially the music. Must have been the intern who actually wanted to play the game.

afaik that is not a secret mission but a kahgoo regah. took me 5 tries. just take your time, use claws and hero time (especially when they are firing their missiles).

kahgoo regahs are easily the hardest missions in this game - two reasons: first you have a fixed life count not a life bar and second ukemi doesn't work.

I am close to finishing my playthrough on hard. It's crazy that still after ~40h the progress of getting better hasn't stopped. There is still so much to learn.

Finished 2 operations, man this game is just sooooooo crazy and fun. But I can understand why it dosen't sell, it's just hard to tell other people why it's fun...

I just bought the Ukemi, is it only for when you're about to die that the jump works? Have been trying to jump away from enemy attacks but doesn't seem to work so far.
I made a post about Ukemi earlier which will hopefully help you.
Ukemi is weird. The game says it only activates if you press jump just before taking damage but I've found it works in 2 instances (tested on a spinning black treasure box):

1. Ukemi activates when you press jump just before taking damage;
2. Ukemi activates when you've taken damage and press jump as your leader touches the ground.

So if you fuck up Ukemi in the 1st instance you still get a 2nd chance to activate it and it seems that damage recovered is identical in both instances.
I'd also add that Ukemi 2 doesn't work if you get flattened into the ground, so the best thing to do is use Ukemi 1 then Ukemi 2 as backup. Or just don't get hit. :)

Well i dunno if it's the best way to use Ukemi but i just press the jump button immediately after i got hit and hold it till i land on the ground and receive my lost life back.

There's a bit of misinformation in the video though. They say you can't use Multi-Unite morphs, but you can. Or at least you can when you play 2 players. The only issue is that the minimum character count for a morph is 10, so you'd need at least 20 people in your squad to have two morphs out at once.
I seem to recall being able to steal members from my co-player's squad in the demo. We had several beers by that time, though, so I'm a bit fuzzy. I think that perhaps they had been stunned, and I circled them to bring them over to my side?

I hope I'm not totally off on this. ;)

I still dont know how to tip over the turtles. Is using unite guts before the fall into the groubd when they do the no fire stomp with both hands? I tried that yesterday and I dont know if i was to far but it didnt work.

I keep forgetting to buy things in the mart and now I have enough money to buy a couple of skills/items. What do you guys recommend getting ASAP?

My usual strategy is to get under their right foot and keep hammering them there until they go for a one-legged stomp, which I block and then attack them until they tip over.

Where it gets to be a lot more hit & miss is when the press is faced with a skill-focused game that doesn’t easily fit into a pre-established category. These are games designed to be played over a period of months, honing your craft & improving your scores & times, not rushed through to see what happens at the end of the story. And if the reviewer doesn’t even realize that this is a skill-focused game and instead thinks that the game is an experienced-focused game because it’s single-player and has a story? Heaven help the developer of that game who is hoping for a good metacritic score because they’re not going to get it.

Great great piece that hits the nail right on the head!

To say I am hyped for this game would be a gross understatement. After having a blast with the demo (controls clicked on 2nd try), and watching the director's trailer, which hit all of the right notes with me (goosebumps + fist bumps) I am just super stoked to get this game. Have not been this excited for a game in a LONG time (years).

I don't know if I can wait a single day longer for the release than I absolutely have to. I thought of something this morning, and wanted to ask if anyone else is considering something similar:

So far, I have been a strictly physical copy kind of guy, but to play this game first thing sunday morning, I am considering downloading the game from the eshop. I also still have the $30 eshop credit from the FE:A + SMT4 bonus deal. I DO also have a copy reserved from Amazon, with a Monday/Tuesday delivery scheduled.

I THINK this might be the kind of game to double dip on.. Having a pristine sealed physical copy, + downloaded ready-to-play-Sunday copy sounds just oh so sexy.. Am I crazy?

How hard is it to do what is going on in this video on a scale of 1-100.

Easy. Like you see the dragons don't even have time to attack, using gun until combo multiplier at 2.30, then sword, mega bomb when Laambo come.
Not missing the qte seems like the hardest part...

Kind of feel the same way.

I am not sure I want the retail or digital.

This is a game that I know I will want to play over and over again so having it on the main menu at all times would be great.

I also love the boxart though.

I'm kind of hoping I can't find it in the stores so I have to download it, haha.

That's cool. I don't really have any trouble with games on normal but without actually playing this I can hardly tell what is being done and what is just fluff. I'm sure I'll find out one day when I can get a Wiiu cheap enough.

In reality the hardest part is not getting a shit time. I think platinum is 8 minutes. I can do it in 10 and still get a bronce under time. The on rails part doesnt help in the least.

No harder than Pure Platinum-ing the Bayonetta bosses it looks like.

He's not doing anything crazy execution wise. Just memorizing the boss patterns and having an answer/strategy to each phase of it.

It's probably best to play through once or twice yourself though so you know exactly what the boss throws at you and why Saur is doing the things he does. Just trying to emulate his run will probably lead to alot of frustration if there's any variance in the boss's actions.

Edit: 30/100 (based on experience with the demo and previous action games)

Watched the GT review. I wan't to buy the game but I don't have enough moneyyyyyyyyy. :(

you really should. it gets better once you understand that its not a shooting game.

I loved ZombiU after dying in the first 45 seconds of the game. Bam you're in control, Hey zombies! Oh shit I'm dead. :(

The Europeans and Japanese dropped the ball bigtime, time for the Americans to pick up the slack!!!!

(probably won't do very good here either :[)

VJ did better over here than all other territories.

It'll probably do better over here simply by virtue of the US being the largest market that is also the most willing to spend money on new games.

but probably not the numbers they want for their most expensive title to date. More than probably really.(Might do worse than Anarchy over here.)

Not my problem though. All I'm concerned about is playing an awesome game this Sunday. All I can do.

Is such a thing even possible

Probably not I actually don't know just how bad Anarchy did over here.

I just remember trying to pick up a used US copy on PS3 so I could do the trophies and return it and the gamestop clerk practically begging me to just buy it new.

I feel they are doing a little more marketing in the US than elsewhere. Maybe it can reach Madworld numbers? (100k first month)
