Breaking Bad - Season 5, Part 2 - The Final Eight Episodes - Sundays on AMC - OT2

I'm so happy this is ending soon. I can take about 2 or 3 more episodes of all the men on the show talking in Christian Bale's Batman voice and people online sticking with Walt 100%, believing in his logic every step of the way, while hating on anyone who gets in his path or messes with his plan.

The show has a lot to say about how drugs fuck up lives for real, but it seems like a portion of this show's demographic is 18 and up white men with immature power fantasies. Does anyone else think this show's legacy should be something a little more substantive than "so many cool plot twists" and "walts teh boss!11 go heisinborg!!!11 fuck skylar she's a bitch"?

Just so we can see all the idiots with auto-pilot brains go along with it, I hope Walt rapes 10 children in the next episode and the writers, once again, find some "flawless" logic to justify it (because they can do that with anything, just like a real life big time dealer would to protect himself.) Get Walt to explain it in his fatherly voice about how raping 10 children seems bad on the out side, but really, the blame for him raping children should be spread around and at the end of the day, what's raping 10 children compared to going to jail and having your family killed on account of you screwing up while dealing crystal meth? A little anal blood is spilled, some therapy, meh, small stuff compared to what could happen to Walt, am i rite

I don't think it's the show's fault (except the batman voices, god what are the actors doing.) Just the American public's inability to see anything with nuance once you put "protecting the family" in as a motivator for a character's actions.
Haha.

Walt Jr. is such a baby. Walt should be ashamed. First, he calls his mom a liar then lies himself ratting out his dad. Go drive that dodge charger off a bridge.

Certainly there will be some longer think-pieces when all is said and done, and I'm looking forward to reading them. They are under a lot of pressure to produce content quickly so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

Yeah, my heart goes out to Sepinwall for having to rush out a piece on that insane episode after a freaking appendectomy. Poor guy.

Funny to read live reactions to this episode here.

Walt's phone scene flew over 90% of the posters heads. :D

To be fair, right after he grabs holly, it seems Walt might do/say anything to spite Sky Sky. I caught on after awhile after realizing that he must know the cops are with her. But I wouldnt blame anyone if they didnt realize what he was doing. Plus, Walt was also mixing in his real feelings in that phone call.

Walt will go back for Jesse in my mind. He wanted Jesse dead yes but he told in the Nazi's in ep13 "No suffering, no fear. I want it quick and painless." He won't be able to stomach that Jesse is being abused for this long, all things considered.

Honestly I don't even know how that's possible, it wasn't subtle AT ALL.

Yeah, maybe if they didn't show him holding back tears as he said it and you just heard his voice on the phone, maybe you could take it as "yeah, he's snapped," but the guy is breaking down as he's saying it and holding back from crying. Even skylar knew what he was doing. SKYLAR!

The show really doesn't really have much to say about how drugs fuck up lives.

It's never concentrated on the actual users.

These kinds of reactions are just as bad as what you are disparaging.

I think its kind of funny everyone is all Cranston for ever award ever, then they can't see his acting in one of the best scenes he might have ever done. It was pretty clear to me during the phone call that it was tearing him up saying those things to Skylar.

I'm still surprised people didn't get that Walt was taking all the blame for the drugs, getting Skylar off the hook. If there's one decent thing left in Walt (and it's what makes him a fascinating character to watch) is that he loves his family. He would do anything for them. He was willing to give up ALL of his precious money to save Hank's life. He started this whole thing for his family, even though that eventually grew into half family, half ego. So that's why he would never so something to intentionally hurt his family like people interpretated he was doing in that phone call. That's why the ultimate irony of this show is that he wanted to help his family but really just ended up destroying it more than him simply dying from cancer would have.

I copped to missing it at first and I think a big part of why is because much of his tirade is true. And what makes it so effective a confession is that all the vitriol and hate and pettiness on display really is at the root of everything that Walt has done. It may have been the only way for him to even briefly confront the truth of his own motivations; by wrapping it in a "lie" to help his family.

Holy crap bro, calm down. It's just a TV show, Jesus Christ.

I'll be honest, I missed Walt's intentions there on the first viewing. I think I was essentially in shock over everything else that had transpired, so I was just like, "OK, that's fine, just throw some more emotional devastation on the pile."

The way Cranston delivered the "I killed Jane" line was fucking perfection.

The level of contempt in his voice, such awesome acting.

Haha, defensiveness is tasty. Sorry if it hurt, maybe Walt will choke Jesse to death next week, for good reason, and you can get a big rush out of it to make you feel better.

Junior calling the cops on his dad is one of the things I... kind of don't understand since Skyler was the one who assaulted Walter first and for Junior it must have all been a huge blur. That said Walter did have the knife when he was holding Skyler down and I assume there was a moment he thought that Walt had murdered Hank. I'm confused as to why he didn't call the cops on both of them.

I guess we're starting to see what kind of person Junior is - a bit brash but good-hearted. Kind of like Jesse but with his moral compass in check.

Only on GAF you see people defending a homicidal maniac druglord who could have avoided entering the crime world by simply putting his ego aside for a second and taking his friend's money but then diss Rockstar for using criminals to do voiceacting for GTA.

Probably.

Glad it's just a television show otherwise I would think there would be something wrong with me!

Well, he did kind of just learn his dad is a murdering drug lord and that he also likely killed his uncle.

I believe I'm correct when I say that Walt knew exactly what he was doing when he went off on Skyler. Seems that some people think he was just being crazy Heisenberg when actually he was trying to distance her from his crimes. He knew the call was being traced and that the authorities were listening in. It's the last decent thing he could do for his family (along with giving Holly back).

Really?

1. He found out his dad is a fucking drug lord
2. He found out that his dad killed his uncle
3. He found out that his dad had lied to him
4. His mum tried to get his crazy dad to leave
5. His dad was attacking his mum on the ground

Really don't understand why he would call the cops?

Those two things are so unrelated, it boggles the mind that you could connect them. Well, that's hyperbole, but it's still kind of a silly comparison.

Oh I think he is giving a little tongue lashing to Skylar at the beginning of the call. As soon as he said he would kill her though you know its a ruse. That is what makes the show and Walt so amazing. He is pissed at her for giving up on him... but at the same time he still loves her. He is waaaay more complex and "real" than some one dimensional pure evil character.

do you ever think about anything? does somebody else thinking about something make you feel insecure or something?

oh shit, i analyzed something, everyone tell me to calm down!

lol

We have been analyzing shit for hours in this thread. Yet some of us root for villains and criminals. Why? Because it is a fun fantasy. It is like enjoying the executions in God of War 3 or the fight scenes in a Tarantino movie. It is cool to watch knowing that it is fake.

If Walt was a real life person, I can assure you that the reactions would be completely different.
