Have you ever genuinely wanted a game to fail?

Call of duty franchise(from MW 2 and onwards) and to some degree the Assassin's creed franchise. Used to love it when it was somewhat fresh and unique. Now it has become stale and boring, because Ubisoft decide it's great to release it annualy like it's a fucking sports game.

Yes, it was a huge improvement as far as I'm concerned

I want the new killzone to fail. gurilla games have a great tallent at graphics and art design but its all wasted on killzone which is honestly a generic shooter made to ape Halo's success on playstation. I hear rumors about a sci-fi rpg coming from them which is very welcoming but killzone needs to die.

You choose this KZ, the one that's actually very different, to hope fail? They've moved to a hub-level design, with multiple objectives, tackled at the order you wish. They're finally doing something interesting, that's exactly what people should be rewarding.

Say what you like about Dante but he is not effeminate at all. Floppy-haired and smarmy yes. I had no intention of buying DmC (played 1-3) but the character switch from this:

to this:

Made me genuinely wish for this game to fail.

At least use a pic of the final design lol

ugh, I really hope we don't go back to the old insufferable Dante.

I know it's not realistic in the slightest, but if GTAV would have failed to break 90 on metacritic, I think I would have had to jump around and dance for a minute.
I used to love the series though.
Also, DmC, and Sony Smash Bros. [I've sorta regretted wishing them harm though]
But geeze, GTA needs a little rain to fall on them. For their own good.

There's been two console GTA's in the last seven years. They have long dev cycles and are great as a result. They earned their scores and success.

Lord help me if I ever do. I can not imagine being that petty.

There are times I may roll my eyes at a game's success or think about what would have happened if it didn't succeed, but I'm never going "WOO IT SOLD NOTHING, UP TOP"

We're not at a point where a poorly selling game just makes the people in charge think that they should change directions. Poorly selling games now cost people jobs, including the life of entire studios. How much of an asshole do you have to be to desire that because they didn't make something you like?

I never actually got the intense hate for DMC's Dante. Yeah, he acts like a cocky little teenager, but the original Dante was just generic anime badass. It's not like there was a great downgrade there.

Just Zynga games and anything Facebook related. Absolutely detest those games and hate what they've done to the industry.

DmC Devil May Cry.

Mainly because it tried to turn the series into something that it wasn't. It was a decent game in the end, but Ninja Theory's Dante is a horrible character.
Man, I actually ended up enjoying their rendition of Dante more than what Capcom had previously accomplished. :\

You're totally backwards on this one. Shadow Fall is the first Killzone game to really try to shake things up and do something new. It isn't simply another linear scripted shooter this time.

Never, its cruel and mean. These developers work their asses off. It's unfortunate that publishers sometimes rush a game out even though its not done, or give the developers an unrealistic time frame to finish the game. I would like to see publishers respect developers more, that's all.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Certain iOS/Android/Mobile games. I don't mean the good games, I mean the ones that are intentionally broken where you have spend inordinate amounts of money in order to progress. Every time one succeeds, it damages the future of gaming.

No. It's incredibly petty and ridiculous to feel that way. Anybody who does should be ashamed of being a shitty person. If I don't like something it's no longer my concern.

I feel bad about it, but a selfish part of me of kind of does. Not so much a particular game, but more certain types of games.

Any and all Social, Mobile and Browser games from the likes of Square Enix and the rest of them. The flawed reasoning I have is if they all did terribly, they're more likely to release the types of games I want on more dedicated gaming platforms

Not a single one. Why would you? That's fucking petty and stupid when there are always others you should be wishing to do well if not better than XYZ that you dislike so much because of its publisher/developer/content. The marketplace is better when it's about bringing attention to interesting quality titles, not sitting there wishing for XYZ to bomb. It's stupid.

That's 100% how I feel.

Then you should also expect Destiny fanfare from the microsft betrayal...

Besides Insomniac is still dveloping R&C games

Umm, did you read that thread? Damn....people were legit pissed because Ted Price comes out and says he wants to go 3rd party and have "more people experience their games", they release FUSE, then the first game they announce for next gen was MS exclusive, so yeah, people were calling him out and were pretty pissed about it. R&C had nothing to do with that whole mess...

Also DmC is very good, so much better than 4, I never liked old Dante anyways.

I have to wonder how attentive you are to how that series even plays to actually find DmC to be better than DMC4. The core gameplay is so much weaker in DmC. DmC yanks so much of the meat from previous games away, and you can even see the bones in DmC's combat. It tries to make this up with color coded enemies, which is a hilariously bad substitute.

Halo.

MS were just shoving it down everyones throats months, years before launch. Talking as if it was the greatest game ever made and everyone already made their minds up before launch.

No humbleness at all, constant boasts.

Enjoyed the 1st level, gave up at the 2nd. Nothing special at all. Maybe my hate clouded my judgement but any game that uses copy/paste level design cant be the greatest game ever made.

Because when bad games don't fail we end up with the mess of an industry we have right now.

So, wishing something to die, like a ridiculous child, is going to make it better? When there are so many quality games left gathering dust because no one knows about them, I can't think of a better way to combat stuff you may not like with actual answers to them in the form of unknown or little-known titles and their developers.

All games that are shipped 'broken' or loaded with unnecessary DRM. I want Rayman Legends Wii U to fail not because of the devs, but company decisions (sorry guys).

Not really because I know the games I would possibly want to fail will be successful without a doubt. But I've been relieved by the failure of some games.

Well to be fair wishing something to fail isn't going to make it worse either.

We're just talking about private thoughts here and stuff posted on message boards.

I got grudge sucked!
The success of COD changed the landscape of FPS games forever. It used to be Quake and UT you know. I loved Quake and UT. They don' make em' like they used to, ya kno?

It could be argued that Half Life and Halo changed the FPS forever, honestly. Quake and Unreal had become pretty niche by the time Modern Warfare hit the consoles.

EDIT: It really depends on the reasons for wanting a game to fail, and I don't think its being articulated well. Not everyone is a cynical pretentious snark that wants gaming to go back to the halcyon PC days of 1999. Not everyone is a petulant manchild that wants to throw a tantrum because they didn't get their way. Sometimes a product seems to be going a direction you don't want it to go, or there is an oversaturation of the same genres. You vote with your wallet, and you have to hope other people vote the same so you don't see more of it. I don't want anyone to lose their job, but I'm not going to encourage things in my hobby I don't like.

If Dragon Age III was heading down the same road as DAII, and they didn't learn (or didn't care) about the numerous things they got wrong in that game? I'd want it to fail.

as a series whole: probably call of duty

there is one next gen launch game that simply looks terrible and I will forever hate on it until it's release. I'm getting the system it's coming out on but forever avoiding it like the plague. It looks boring, has simplified gameplay mechanics and IMO is the ugliest game the developer has ever made.

Every Nintendo game. I wanna see them exit the console business ASAP.

I enjoyed the W101 review thread and I will enjoy the September NPD just as much. Nintendo fanboys are crazy as all hell which always makes me laugh.
