Have you ever genuinely wanted a game to fail?

I want any game with micro transactions to fail... or at least just that feature.

I think that the real money auction house is what ruined Diablo 3s loot system, so I am glad to see that go.

What they are doing to Sim City in this regard I think is the crappiest thing about gaming right now. Monetize everything at the expense of everything else.

I can't say I've ever desired a game to fail. The closest I have come is probably Breath of Fire 6 (it still burns).

However, there have been plenty of times where games or franchises or whatever flop and it's oh-so-terrible for whoever and I can't find a shred of sympathy or condolence in my body, whether due to me feeling it was totally deserved for being garbage or more particular reasons at the time. If that ever happened to *insert FPS/sports/moblef2p trash game of the year franchise here*, I would not care at all.

Call-of-Duty. MW2 most specifically. The "root" of all evil gaming trends we see today. If we can go back in time and cause the game to bomba in the sales, it would push the game industry back to it's rightful creative place.

Just to add to my post with some more modern hopeful failures...

Every single Japanese outsourced game. These idiots still don't realise why they're going wrong. Even if they gave it to a really big competent dev, they still wouldn't be able to replicate the sort of shit that's in some games like DMC.

Freemium...I'm not so sure about. Tekken F2P is pretty good value on PS3...never paid a penny to play.

I have to wonder how attentive you are to how that series even plays to actually find DmC to be better than DMC4. The core gameplay is so much weaker in DmC. DmC yanks so much of the meat from previous games away, and you can even see the bones in DmC's combat. It tries to make this up with color coded enemies, which is a hilariously bad substitute.

We are not robots programed to search and dissect the perfect fighting system without being affected by everything else surrounding the final package, in order to find some kind of enjoyment.

Its about balance, and DmC balanced a very enjoyable battle system with interesting characters, world and presentation in general. The latter parts being something previous DMC games failed miserably at, to the point of actually harming the overall appeal of the product for some people.
If all it took to have a favorite game in a genre was to have the deepest gameplay system that defines that genre, everyone would have a simulator type game that gives you 100 variables to take into account before squeezing a trigger as their best FPS ever made (for example).

Every Nintendo game. I wanna see them exit the console business ASAP.

I enjoyed the W101 review thread and I will enjoy the September NPD just as much. Nintendo fanboys are crazy as all hell which always makes me laugh.

But why? Do you hate (good) videogames? And even if they don't make them in your opinion, why do you even care? Just don't buy their stuff. A small number of people still have good tastes, why ruin their favourite past time and more importantly be happy with thousands of jobs gone?

This is below the regular troll/shit post I saw back in the dark ages when I roamed the Gamespot forums.

No. I'm not 9 years old and a company with employees that openly supports and promotes racism, sexism, murder, rape, child labour, conflict diamonds and a list of other real world problems hasn't developed a game yet. When that happens, that's when I'll care enough to want a game to fail financially.

You think Nintendo fans are the crazy ones? This is one of the craziest posts I have ever seen.

In a perfect world I wish NT could make DmC2 while Capcom made DMC5 and so on, everyone wins

In fact I wrote my idea for DMC5 just a few hours ago

Come on MYE, fighting a Scandinavian Demon Jazz Band sounds kinda cool at least???

The worst part is that some of these posts are coming from grown ass people

Why would you not want DmC to fail? It's an insult to it's fans. Thought up by greedy marketing men without a clue.

I also want the following games to fail:

Mario3DWorld
Mario Kart 8
Animal Crossing whatever
Smash Bros U/3DS

Nintendo needs to learn to innovate and stop cashing in on mindless drones willing to pay for the same shit every year.

Nintendo used to be better than this!

Dont get me wrong, I'm all for cheesy, wacky stuff if done right. Its the execution in all previous DMCs that I disliked.
Like a comedy movie where I cringe instead of laughing at any of the jokes.

The only one I can think of where I wanted the actual game to fail is the The War Z. Shady business practices, deceptive marketing, and complete arrogance coming from the developers really annoyed me. Otherwise, I can't really think of any other examples.

Call of Duty

It's a cancer that has infested other games of the generation. Every time a COD fan complains about bullet sponges, as if all games should be this shitty tag game on COD multiplayer, a virtual puppy dies. COD mupliplayer isn't about who's better at aiming or shooting it's about who saw the other one first and tagged him with a couple of bullets. Not to mention the jingoist war fantasy that is the single player. Absolutely atrocious franchise.

I am by no means a huge Nintendo fan, but to say Nintendo systems and game play aren't innovative is a little far fetched.... actually, straight up rediculous

I agree they go back to the same well a lot, but not any more than any other franchise. Top 10 lists is littered with games that have a number after them.

If this thread was about consoles you want to see dead, I would have WiiU ahead of the Wii, 3D0, Jaguar, Amstrad GX4000 and the Konix Mastertronic or whatever it was called.

Iwata needs to learn to bring his A game if he wants to play with the big boys instead of bullshit half assed gimmicks.

i'm sure there's one, but i cant think of it...i generally don't like seeing bad sales #'s. i mean even when its konami's incompetent shit or namco expecting way too much from splatterhouse or the like, it still sucks.

i guess i wouldve felt that way about condemned 2? i really didn't like it at all, and kinda killed the series. i don't follow sales-age much so that's an assumption though. i didn't play dead space 3 cause i lost my interest after beating 2, but even when a series continues in a direction that's not for me, i don't usually wish failure upon it.

the Konix Mastertronic or whatever it was called.

i really dont know what you're referring to here, it's puzzling

Does this list look innovative to you

Mario3DWorld - 3DS expansion
Mario Kart 8 - 3DS expansion
Animal Crossing whatever - N64 expansion
Smash Bros U/3DS - N64 expansion

They are just sequels or new entries in a give series. Same with 95% of games released today.

This is a good answer. Also, games with shitty unnecessary DRM (you know the names) and Zynga's "rip off and bully the competitors" tactics. Whether you like the games or not, those kind of policies are bad for us and bad for the industry. I'm happy when I see them failing.

Hey! lets make a list of 4 things that try to prove my point and completely ignore things like motion gaming, dual screen and second screen gaming, touch screen gaming, 3D display, augmented reality games, etc!

Even though I hate most of that crap, they still did it when no one else did.

No , I don't understand why anyone would.

Games fall into 2 categories for me

* Games I want to buy now or sometime in the future

* Games I don't want to buy.

Actively wanting titles to fail is weird , especially given how close a lot of studios are from ceasing to exist.

I wanted Rayman Legends to fail after Ubisoft delayed the game for six months for the Wii U (keyword: BETRAYALTON), BUT now I'm cool with it because it's a good game and the industry needs more games like Rayman Legends.

Nah, when a game actively hurts the industry or destroys a great franchise, it isn't too far to want that idea squished. Imagine if Sim City was a smashing success and other games you loved tried to emulate it.

I confess to having wanted to see the 3DS fail. After Nintendo's admirable inclusiveness with the Wii, they thumbed their noses at left-handers (everything presupposes that the stylus is held righty) and people who can't see 3D. Fortunately that first part has been partically solved with a peripheral, and the second part also, with the 2DS, but at the beginning it was like someone spitting in your eye.

I feel bad about it, but a selfish part of me of kind of does. Not so much a particular game, but more certain types of games.

Any and all Social, Mobile and Browser games from the likes of Square Enix and the rest of them. The flawed reasoning I have is if they all did terribly, they're more likely to release the types of games I want on more dedicated gaming platforms

I know how you feel. I know that the creators are just doing their jobs, but I despise this medium and where it is taking gaming -- namely, to a world of disposable ephemera that we consumers don't really own -- and want to see it disappear.
