POLYGON: Dead Rising 3's TGS demo shows framerate locked at 30fps

Next gen coming and we are celebrating that a game has achieved 30fps. At times it just doesn't feel like a whole new console generation is coming.

It was the main gripe for people with this game (dipping below 30fps) so getting confirmation the game will run smoothly is big news for some people. I think you can see the generation difference from all the media we've seen.

I would hope that a game that look this bad would be able to hit 30 FPS on a Next Gen Console.

I think someone just wants attention, because that looks pretty good to me.

More importantly, this picture just got me thinking about a next-gen Viva Pinata. Guys....I want that...so....bad

It's almost not even worth talking about performance from preview builds. People get worked up over nothing.

I wish I didn't absolutely hate dead rising, this one looks totally ridiculous (in a good way)

Good to know they got the framerate doubled over that gamescom shit, and co op running at the same framerate is pretty great

Going to assume an off the record/super ultra/dark arisen will exist as multiplatform later

I don't how someone can say the game looks bad. The amount of characters on screen with that lighting is very impressive to me.

Lmao, what the fuck is going on in that pic. Can't wait for this game.

It appears a dragon with knifes for teeth and umbrellas for wings is tearing through a horde of zombies with knifes attached to his boxing gloves.

And people said that this game looked too serious. :p

Well I seen this last night & it looked really bad too me, so I was pointing it out that it should be expected to run a game that look this way on a Next Gen Console at 30 FPS.

You were at TGS? How was it? Also why hell are so many people getting 'Juniored' lol..

it doesn't look great, but DR has always been about the huge crowds of zombies. Being locked at 30fps is great news for a title that has so far been seen as a bit of a technical straggler

Personally I think it is now one of the more interesting launch games - assuming they manage to keep hold of what made DR1&2 fun to play.

I think you need to take a trip down memory lane and look at dead rising 1 & 2. This game looks sensational by comparison.
That is not relevant, that's like saying look at this hot chick and when in reality she's only just a bit better looking than two butt faced girls next to her.

The game looks bad. No question. But it looks bad because they're using resource on other things, so it can look like a great game to play but visually look poor.

Some people seem to think looks bad = bad game.

This is great news. Even if they had to sacrifice on on effects or total zombie count it wil be more than worth it to have a steady framerate. Smart decision by the team.

What? There has been nothing stated about reduced zombie counts or the toning down of in game effects.

the game need better textures ( look at the bear guns) thats why some people think it doesnt look that stellar[/QUOTE]

...and better effects. It really doesn't look like a nextgen game to me. But maybe the scale of the game can help a little bit, although there are other open-world games on nextgen consoles which look a lot better...

About what?

cboat said there was going to be a 20% reduction in performance for Xbox One developers.

This quote:-

"If you saw it at Gamescom, we got a new drop from Microsoft literally that week, so you're seeing optimizations happening right now," Jones said. "We're in the midst of beta and final optimizations and polish — absolutely, we've got the game frame-locked at 30."

Says the opposite.

My guess is dynamic resolution combined with further optimisations allowed them to hit their target. Glad they pulled it off as the GC demo was super choppy.

nope, we play cherry-picked gifs

sad that im supposed to be impressed with locked 30fps.

Impressed? Who said impressed?

This thread was meant for gamers who were interested in the games progress and hoped for a locked 30fps. That's why many here are pleased with this news.

Now others came to piss in the punch but this is an Xbone thread so that part isn't news.

Looking at the new screens of DR3 & seeing how Ryse dropped from 1080P to 900P the 20% drop might be true.

But I haven't heard anything about Forza 5 taken any hits besides the sly remark by a Drive Club dev that might have been about Forza 5.

DR3 has not undergone any reduction in visuals since it's debut. There have only been performance improvements. Some might say that dynamic resolution is a recent change, but that is not something to just be thrown into an engine this late in the game.

I always attributed the remark to the OS.

I haven't seen a down grade in DR3. What sly DC remark?

What did the DC dev say?

On topic, good for them for getting the performance up. That .gif looks awesome!

Show me the the before and after screens of DR3 that denotes this 20% drop you're seeing. Ryse went from 1080 confirmed to 900 in about a week so maybe someone got it wrong from the start. As for what some Sony dev hinted at about a game you've decided to assume might mean Forza, well...enough said.

that was a temporal drop in the sdk.
zombie edit: Anyway, hope the news is true and it's indeed a locked 30 now, and that is good news to me.

sorry to 'piss in the punch' but games should be 60fps in 2013 imo. no reason for them not to be, if youre still getting it, great, but i am disappointed and not just cause the graphics arent what i want but because i know itll have a judder effect on my tv so there's that,

if it was locked at 60, no one would be upset about it
