I was going to try this out but hearing the impressions of people in this thread about the grinding has me worried. I absolutely HATE having to grind excessively.

My question is will the PC version be updated with these DX11 features...

Yes it will? the Direct X 11 version IS PC. The PS4 version will get SOME of these features.

You don't. You're listening to people that rushed all the way to 50 and now are crying because they don't have as much as they'd like to do (in a newly released MMORPG).

There are several classes to level up, call me back when you have all of them to 50. For a newly released MMO, it has more to do than any other.
Okay I'll just use all the quests to level them up. Oh...wait. Guess I'll just FATE grind. But of course that doesn't make it a grindfest, right?

It's only a grind if you're rushing to 50, like a lot of people did. If you pace yourself between the story, FATEs here and there, as well as optional quests and dabbling in other classes/jobs - the game has a lot of offer other than "grinding". I've been playing since Early Access and my primary class is only at level 36, with a level 15 Carpenter and level 18 Marauder.

I don't understand his quote of 60 FPS; you can't frame lock an MMO...or there will be noticeable issues when large groups gather.

Dungeons, FATE, Levequests... there are plenty ways to level them up. The fact that you're just grinding the way you perceive as the fastest is on you.

Then don't play this game. It follows a mindless generic grind design. At 50 you have running one dungeon over 60 times to get tokens to buy gear with to look forward too.

On the topic of grindiness, an important question to ask yourself (and to consider when reading others' experiences) is will you be playing the game for ten hours a day or ten hours a week.

Pretty much. Frame-rate is capped at 60 but the likely hood of actually hitting that consistently will be pretty slim.

i7-3700k @ 4.6 GHZ, 690GTX here and though I do get pretty consistent 60 FPS in dungeons and out on the field once people starts to gather the Frame-rate tanks. Towns, fates and other crowded locals dip quiet a bit into the 40s.

Dungeons, FATE, Levequests... there are plenty ways to level them up. The fact that you're just grinding the way you perceive as the fastest is on you.

It feels like people just don't explore these ideas. There was a few people in the OT complaining about how quest run out and they wish quest would refresh daily or some shit. That's exactly what Levequest are!

Once you hit end-game you do pretty much hit a wall but this isn't like other mmos were you are just stuck doing that. You can level up other classes and do the high level stuff bit by bit.

Levequests have set allotments, you can't use them to level 1-50. FATE is grinding. Dungeons would be an even more brutal grind than FATEs.

Bizarre level of hate in this thread. Game is great, best Final Fantasy in years. If you rush to the cap then you made your own fucking bed.

It is grind - no one who played the game to end-game should disagree; however, what MMO isn't a "grind" in some aspects?

They all mainly are but usually I don't consider something grindy if I feel like I have a choice and I want to do it. When I log onto FFXIV I feel like there's only a couple things that I can do while advancing my main objective. Which is spam level jobs and grind dungeons. I'm aware of this so it makes playing really boring. There are some other options like hunting monsters and crafting but really they've made them so miserable that I can't convince myself they are worth the time. If money and crafted items had a larger purpose in the overall scheme of the game, maybe they would be. Maybe they will once PVP and housing gets added in.

Some people just can't get over their personal needs. They think a newly released MMORPG should put all its resources to develop content for those that play 10 hours a day and rush to the endgame, but refuse to do the other activities that the game offers and just grind the perceived most efficient way to progress.

Needless to say, it's the best way to fail at enjoying any MMORPG.

The variety of things you can do in xiv at the moment can run out.

Story/sidequests will run out if you use it to get your first class to lvl50. Your second job will have to rely on fate/levequest

It's funny I keep hearing about rushing to level cap but is there anything else to do in this game?

They are no mini games
Crafting = you need gil and to get gil you need to grind
PVP = Coming soon
Dungeons = wait 2 hours in queue to get in then get an error or a party member bail on your team leaving you stranded only to repeat the same process again.
Grand Company Quest = Need to do a dungeon1 to continue, can't do dungeon1 because gears are too weak and need to grind another dungeon before I can even think of starting the dungeon1.
Relic Weapons= Don't get me started.

And about leveling another class most quest aren't repeatable, so if you want to level another class but already used all the quest in the area guess what you're going to have to do? Yes that's right grind FATES.

OT: I run the game fine on maxed setting 60fps on my rig but my brother plays on the PS3 and it's almost unplayable if there's a lot happening on screen. so I'm very impressed if the PS4 turn out to run like my rig.

Wait, if I own the PS3 version I get the PS4 version free? I knew this happened with some games, but I didn't expect SE to do it.

Suffering From Success
Playing on maximum settings, my PC is good but not that good and yet it never dips below 40 fps so I guess they did a good job.
Weather effects are beautiful (although I wish different conditions happened more often, it's just fair/fog all the time now).

The highest PC settings is nice, but there really isn't anything graphically spectacular in this game that would warrant having it.

Nice game regardless.

I have three classes to 50 and I have plenty to do, maybe I just don't madly run for the endgame grind like you do.

PS: Never once ran out of money while crafting.

Sounds like you're just doing it wrong.

This will be the reason I buy a PS4. I'm pretty addicted now on ps3 and the game is playable, not great. PS4 will be glorious.

Currently playing on PS3, and while it does the job, it looks and runs poorly. Looking forward to the PS4 version.

They have. It's been announced by Square Enix USA as well with a press release. That's an official confirmation.

PS: It's a ONE WAY thing. if you upgrade, you lose access to the PS3 version.

Ohhh... that's interesting.

Sounds great. This will be quite the an improvement coming from the PS3 version.
So when can we expect the full version if the beta ends in March?

I had to come here to find the people that didn't like FFXIV. But then I'm not an MMO guy, so that might be why this game works for me. I don't care much for endgame content so I'll probably play until I max level and finish all available quests and quit until they add some more side stories/quests and main story content. They're supposed to add content on a semi-regular basis, so there you go.

Cool. This will likely be my first PS4 game. I want to play the PS3 version, but I've convinced myself to wait so I'll have something to play on my PS4 since the launch titles don't interest me but I am so ready for nextgen.

That's impressive, too bad the game is a broken grindfest mess.

Then MMOs must not be your genre. Unless, of course you come from those that you can only reasonably level up by questing. Quest xp and hubs are downplayed in this game compared to most, but Hunting Logs and Fate parties are 100 times more interesting to than random fetch quests. Eastern MMOs typically rely more on group killing for xp gain and this is the best example of mixed ways to level that I have ever seen in a game.

Chains
HuntingLogs
Fate parties
Dungeon grinding
Quests
Levequests
Guildhests

Not many games offer half as many options.

How does the game currently play with the dualshock 3 on PC ? It played extremely well last year (better than mouse + keyboard), but the UI seems to have changed a lot and I wonder if it's still controller-friendly. Can anyone confirm ?

It works really good. Only trouble I have is targeting when there's tons of people around.

I'm glad to hear. I want to play this game really badly, but I'm going to cultivate my desire until the PS4 version gets for sell.

Also, what's this about the "binding coil" I keep hearing about ? Apparently that's what's making the platinum trophy a bitch.

Sounds like you're addicted to the game. You might enjoy the grinding but I can't see how you can say there's none if you've got 3 classes to 50. I've got one class to 47 and have stopped playing at the moment because there's nothing to do but queue for dungeon's or grind fates to level, oh and I can't do both at the same time which means the only efficient way to level is to grind the same fates in the same area until I'm maxed. You could argue I could grind out the same 4 levequests but I'd rather save them for grinding my gathering classes and doing them would net me less exp than the fate grind.

Guess I'll just have to try it out and see for myself. I'm hoping for the best since I'm in no rush to reach 50 or anything.. just hoping for a steady flow of content until I reach end game.
