So it seems 3DS lost momentum in the UK. It used to have so many games charting, now I only see Animal Crossing.
I wouldn't be surprised to see GTA5 the top digital seller on PSN outside of FF7 or something. But we have no sense of scale for these kinds of day-one digital releases -- the industry continues to slit its own wrists keeping that data so close to its chest. It's mind-boggling.Do you think a lot of people are picking up GTA digitally?

I don't get it, are these people trying to catch up or are they just misinformed?24 (24) 360 GRAND THEFT AUTO IV (TAKE 2)

Nintendo is basically the only one carrying the thing, so it heavily depends on how much they're able to support it. Since AC there hasn't been too much of note. I guess Pokemon will help in the next month and leading to the holidays.
Depends if 3DS cats actually want to buy western 3rd party games. I wouldn't have said that was a safe gamble for Nintendo.Nintendo is basically the only one carrying the thing, so it heavily depends on how much they're able to support it. Western third party support is beyond terrible.
Pokémon will have a giant impact on 3DS in the next months, get ready![]()
That's the thing, we barely have any evidence. Though it doesn't surprise me, since, well, even the DS had relatively lacklustre western third party support, but it certainly helped keep the load off Nintendo for a good while when they shifted resources to the Wii.Depends if 3DS cats actually want to buy western 3rd party games. I don't know for FIFA, but Madden? That's because the game's not that good, again. Not because of next gen incoming.
Will be interesting to see if it'll have any ripple effect on the other titles that used to chart. But basically no third party support is still terrible because how long can they hold the system on their own?

You mean increasing sales on other titles? I suppose Animal Crossing will be influenced the most among the titles released this year, since it's the most important one so far. Then Luigi's Mansion for sure. I don't know about the rest.
About Pokémon, its effect, coupled with 2DS, will surely last for the next 6 months: Holidays and the first three months of the year, which are always affected by the precedent Q4's momentum (look at how 3DS sales were different between Q1 2012 and Q2 2013, due to the titles released respectively in Q4 2011 and Q4 2012). 2DS could help Pokémon having a pretty long-standing effect (I mean, quite more than the next 6 months), due to its cheap price. And we also have Nintendo saying 2014's first party lineup will still be strong + major Japanese titles being helped overseas by Nintendo itself.
Because the retail declines dominate the headlines with only vague "digital helps ameliorate the problem" assurances. This batters stocks over and over until they recover a little each quarter when public companies report some growth in digital with hard revenue figures. How does it negatively affect the industry to not release digital sales numbers?
So it seems 3DS lost momentum in the UK. It used to have so many games charting, now I only see Animal Crossing.
Much of the chart activity from the recent past can be attributed to the buy three get one download free promotion -- which has now expired. 3DS just isn't able to support a self sustaining software eco-system beyond the marquee Nintendo titles because as so many here on Gaf have commented, the software prices are just too high.

I think we agree. The (incorrect) thought process behind this is that the grand total of digital sales doesn't significantly affect the amount of total software sold.
So if we're talking about a 95% retail, 5% digital split, and retail is showing large YOY losses, digital figures end up being nebulous as they don't add much to the bottom line.
That's why I'm glad that NPD is starting a worldwide partnership to bring digital sales into the spotlight...with a major retail tracker putting real effort into it, maybe people will start to take it a bit more seriously.
I think we agree.
The problem is that we don't have a good handle on what the size of the digital market is, either in terms of units or value.
Last of Us sure has legs.

Wow, only Wii U game to chart is Rayman Legends. The system is pretty much dead in Europe.
Pretty much, at least in Birmingham UK it seems very difficult to get a non preowned copy of it. That's why places such as CeX have bumped the price of a preowned copy to ÂŁ50 since they know people can't get it anywhere else in the city and are willing to pay
‘FIFA 14’ remains at No1, holding off ‘GTA V’ for a second week as the gap between the two closes to around 31K units.
Sales of ‘FIFA 14’ are down by 68%, a slightly better drop than its predecessor ‘FIFA 13’ whose sales fell by 72% after launch. ‘GTA V’ (-34%) has to settle for No2, but can content itself with the knowledge that after just 3 weeks on sale it has already eclipsed GTA IV’s lifetime total to become the 12th biggest selling game of all time. It’s even more impressive in terms of revenue, as ‘GTA V’ now occupies the No5 spot behind 4 Call of Dutys, almost equalling the total of ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’.
Despite 4 new releases in the Top 10 there is still a large sales gap between the Top 2 and the rest of the chasing pack. Codemasters/Namco Bandai have this week’s highest new entry with the multi-format ‘F1 2013’ debuting one place ahead of Nintendo’s ‘The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker’ which re-appears at No4 thanks to an enhanced HD version for Wii U. The other 2 newcomers are ‘NBA 2K14’ at No7 and ‘Just Dance 2014’ at No9. Half the Top 10 this week is made up of sequels to games that were in the Top 10 the same week last year. Two non-sequels, ‘Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition’ (+4%) and ‘Disney Infinity’ (+22%) are the only Top 10 titles to increase in sales this week with the kid-friendly duo charting at No5 and No6 respectively. ‘Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist’ (-23%) slips one place to No8, while ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 2014’ (-45%) falls 6 places to No10.
Don't know if it has been posted already, but this was in the Gamesmarkt 18 - Sep. 04. Interview with Bernd Fakesch, Managing Director Nintendo (no clarification if Gfk figures or Nintendo shipment, but probably Gfk).

I think it's been bundled? And it hasn't even been properly discounted yet.
Sure shops have run a one-day deal or something, knocking the price down temporarily.
But it hasn't hit a permanent reduced price point like God of War: Ascension or Tomb Raider.
Wow.
I think it's been bundled?
.
I think it's been bundled?
It was bundled with the PS3 & GTA 5 at a number of retailers. Not sure if it's seen an individual bundle or not.
It has. GTA5 and TLoU bundle.
