so, Teknoman (who also made this awesome banner!) & co had the idea, and i wanted to get it going...we've recently had some great threads on your favorite horror games & Survival horror if you need ideas! Let's see who's down to tackle some horror titles in the spirit of the season.

I recently picked up Splatterhouse for TG16 (censored red mask version...), and was debating finally playing Resident Evil 1.5, or the new Amnesia one, but here's what i decided on for this year:

Sweet Home - found a repro for a good price, and i literally know nothing about it past the Happy Video Game Nerd video, but man did that sell it well without giving away too much. Really looking forward to this, even if I was hopoing to have NES over RGB by now...guess upscaled composite will have to do for now!

Corpse Party - I've been butterin' my pooper for this one since it was on sale a while back! I played the first hour or so (man this game calls for headphones) and decided to save it for this thread....really liked what I got from it in that time though, so much darker than the cover/art style imply. If it holds up I see myself jumping on the sequel soon after.

so let's do this guys, pick some horror titles you've been scared to play/sleeping on or just feel like replaying, and keep us updated as you do!

Alls I knows is I'm looking forward to the Shitstorm of Scariness 2: Electric Boogaloo.
It will be difficult to find 31 straight horror games that are fun/haven't been done to death to play along with GAF.

Yessssssss. Though I wonder if Matt & Pat can find 31 more horror games to play. I know there's a lot, but I'm having a hard time thinking of too many they didn't play last year.

Currently i'm replaying the Dead Space trilogy, but GTA V is sucking all my game time. Still wanna try and finish this month though.

Hell yeah, me too! I loved Shitstorm of Scariness from TBFP and can't wait for part two.

As for the topic, I'm going to try through most of the Resident Evil series. I've never completed REmake and RE 0 so that would be something. Also maybe Silent Hill 1 since I can't believe I haven't finished it yet.

Someone recommended a game called White Day a while back. I'm playing it and it's, uh, old. It's still pretty decent, though.

It'll probably be REmake, RE2, Fatal Frame 2 remake, ZombiU, Silent Hill, System Shock (1, bitches), Clocktower, and the first three Alone in the Darks.

Going simple but I plan on playing

Resident Evil
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3
Dino Crisis

*Bonus Games if I have enough time*
Silent Hill
Silent Hill Shattered Memories
Silent Hill origins

I'll be playing them all on my PSP with headphones for MAXIMUM Terror.
Ok not really but its the only way I have access to them since emulators for this lot would have been a pain.

I haven't gotten around to Outlast or Amnesia 2, so doing it as part of a community might push me over.

Also, Knock Knock comes out on October 4th! I backed it n KS.

Oh man Corpse Party is so good. The sequel is pretty good too but kind of disappointing if you're looking for a continuation of the first game's plot.

ah, for a lighthearted one that i never got around to finishing (thanks again PS +!), this might be my 3rd if i find time for it:

charming little title, and a lotta fun to play (even if i kept getting stuck looking for the last kid hiding, heh)

GREAT TITLE! Could not stop playing it!

ah, that's kind of a bummer - do they connect much at all, or is it better to go in expecting a whole other game?

Sweet Home was a game ahead of its time, not surprising since it was produced by Juzo Itami and supervised by Kiyoshi Kurosawa. Anyone interested in gaming history should give the game a look, I didn't play it, but I watched a playthrough, it's really great.

Actual artists can make games memorable.

Here's what I've currently got planned for this month:

Sweet Home
Rule of Rose
Uninvited (NES)
Phantasmagoria
Koudelka

And if I've got time/can find a copy:
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
Castlevania (NES)
Fatal Frame 2 (PS2)
The 7th Guest

Doesnt have to be something not done to death, but just beat as many horror/creepy games as you can before the end of the 31st.

OR FACE DOOOOOOM.

Anyway, I think i'm going to roll with these as my first set:

Already was in the middle of playing this, so I figure i'd go ahead and finish it, maybe i'll be able to hit CV IV by then.

I've had the trilogy since last year, now would be a good time to start since they seem fairly straight forward.

I'm stuck deciding between this and Resident Evil 1 on the Saturn. I need to restart RE1 on Saturn since I have no idea what I was doing anymore.

iFSoVMsAuUoJv.jpg

And finally...this is going to take awhile i'm sure. Bet i'll have to go through twice x_x

Galerians on PS1 is actually on the way, so I might sub that in for a PS1 or Saturn game. I probably should start System Shock 2 since i've never played that. And everyone says it'll scare your stomach into a knot.

At any rate, be sure to post progression/comments/ thoughts and even screenshots as you go (or just snap a shot of the screen with a camera if you're playing off a TV).

EDIT:

Please play the Splatterhouse trilogy if you have access to them. Also Lone Survivor (the soundtrack alone will creep you out). Quake 1 also counts, but only if played with the CD soundtrack.

I'm getting Amnesia AMFPs the day before Halloween, and I'll be playing it that night.

Other games to play this month:
Outlast
Overblood(play it every year)
Fatal Frame 3 The Tormented(played through 1&2, 2 being exceptional)
Maybe Deep Fear(Sega Saturn), i've never played this one.

Do you have access to the Japanese version(Akumajou Densetsu)? I consider it the definitive version of the game(VRC6 chip for music, Grant has a throwing knife rather than stabbing, and the last fight starts you off at the normal location(rather than all the way at the beginning of the stage when you die).

You know, I'm loving all these survival horror games that are putting the emphasis on "survival" lately (State of Decay/DayZ/Don't Starve/Being Hunted) and I like the occasional "shock" horror game, but I still miss games like the original Silent Hill.

I wish I did/could play it. I dont have a Famicom, just a converter. I've got Deep Fear as well, and now might be a good time to play it. JP version, but full english VA and you can generally figure out whats what. Is there a decent translated guide? I dont want to run into spoilers since I stopped playing after running into the zero oxygen area for the first time lol.

Whats Overblood?

Nevermind lol, i've watched a Game Informer video on it and seen it posted several times, just slipped my mind.

Yeah I need to get a good ending on it. I beat it for the first time last halloween, got the "it was all a nightmare / i'm dead" ending, and at 2am. Had a wtf face on the entire scene since I had no idea I had to save someone.

Gonna get Sweet Home at some point (fami cart) and have it translated...probably not this month unfortunately. Anyone know if Galerians is actually pretty creepy or just straight sci-fi with a bit of horror vibes? Also Parasite Eve series sorta counts.

Since we were talking about Two Best Friends Play's Shitstorm of Scariness a few posts ago, I figured I'd point out that they just uploaded the first episode of this year's Shitstorm, a nearly hour-long video on Outlast:

Shitstorm of Scariness 2: Outlast

Damn! I've never seen anything of that game past a few trailers but wow, that game is just so tense. I jumped quite a few times watching this too. Now, I'm sure of it, I'm going buying this game eventually even though I know I'll be so reluctant to play at all hah.

Might revisit RE6. Gave up halfway through most of the campaigns at launch last year. Maybe with the updated patch mechanics the experience improves?

Fatal Frame 3 just hit PSN. Heard great things of that one when it released, though I only played the first and hate to skip FF2.

Oh and Siren remake has been on my PS3 for years taunting me...

I've played REmake and Amnesia. But no game was as scary to me as

Afraid of Monsters: Director's Cut

th

For some reason I always replay the Super Monkey Ball and Ape Escape series in October. I also recently picked up Rule of Rose and the original Siren for the PS2, might play my sealed copy of Deadly Premonition as well!

My Halloween month playlist:

Vita
Corpse Party
Soul Sacrifice
Lone Survivor Director's Cut

PC
Costume Quest
Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army
Amnesia

I loved this game when I was younger, Pipo was the best. This month I would like to finally complete RE: Code Veronica.

I remembered when I first played it, and the voice for Raz sounded familiar. I looked it up and it was David Keith, the actor from An Officer and a Gentleman.

Cheers Teknoman for posting this in the GameCube thread, I might just try to finish Silent Hill 2 finally to participate in this thread.

What a coincidence! I already kicked it off by firing up Ghostbusters on the PS3. It may not be horror, but it's definitely in the Halloween spirit.

should be breaking in Sweet Home a bit tonight! Corpse Party starts on the portable front as soon as i finish Oracle of Seasons, which should be this week.

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon is among the best games of the year on any category.

oh yeah, i mean i nom'd Costume Quest so i think fun horror-themed stuff like that totally counts! and LM2 was fantastic, cant believe how long it was compared to part 1 though.

I played this on October 1st. It counts, right?

4DiCniF.jpg

lol works for me, yeah like ninja said, it doesnt have to be straight up horror. Creepy, strange, or just halloween themed in general.

Stubbs the Zombie or Zombies ate my Neighbors would count too.

Visiting the ghost ship. Either i've totally forgotten the way alternate paths work, or i've never taken Sypha with me. Dont remember this stage, and I always remember messing around with Alucard and his bat powers at the end.

Cant believe there might be a set of stages i've never played in CV III.

Lessee, here's my plan:

  • Simon's Quest (NES)
  • Lone Survivor Directors Cut (Vita)
  • Amnesia (PC)

I haven't played Simon's Quest since it was originally released. Goofing around with it a bit in preparation and I swear it needs a "The real Demons' Souls begins here" message. Though if I remember correctly it gets a lot easier by the end, we'll see. (Watch me lose my password halfway through....)

I loved Lone Survivor on the PC. This playthrough I really want to go for a no-pills, low ammo run but I don't know if I'll be able to make it...especially if I still can't find the can opener. D:

Haven't played Amnesia yet and am really dying to see what all the fuss is about.
