I think it's only releasing on the eShop this year, and the retail release will be in February. I could be wrong though.
I'm going to get it for both the Wii U and 3DS, but I'm easily far more excited for the Wii U version.
That's quite a delay... the retail versions are releasing in Dec in the west, I believe.

You can get a Wii U bundle with the download version of Wii Fit U on October 31st in Japan.
However, a standalone retail / boxed version will arrive in February.
In the USA, you can purchase the packaged version of Wii Fit U on December 13th, and download it on November 1st.

And that's one thing I don't get. I can see just how rapidly the gaming market is shifting. Nintendo unknowingly popularized something that is being used to cannibalize their market. Intuitive, and tactile input devices. Both had been used by phones by then, but gaming oriented software development was lacking. Now "unconventional" inputs are going to become the conventional, and an entire generation of gamers will have first and foremost played in methods antithetical to some of the depths and nuances of modern game design.

You said I'm using single week as some kind of proof - that single week was just one of many examples of atrocius Wii U software sales.
With sales like this it's no suprise 3rd party support literally doesn't exist.
And without them we are looking at release schedule of 10-15 games during whole year.

This isn't true. Worldwide the results are split with some series like Animal Crossing, Legend of Zelda or Mario Kart being up on 3DS over DS, while others like New Super Mario Bros, Nintendogs or Brain Age are down. More are up then down though, it isn't just Fire Emblem.

That is exactly what I was thinking (well, not about the moe part, about the shovelware part). I mean, here in the US we'll get Dreamworks Tie-in shovelware, doesn't Japan have their equivalent of shovelware games like Spongebob and ABC's Wipeout?

This is kind of interesting, actually. At a glance, Vita's got many of the mid-sized titles that the PSP had: God Eater, Phantasy Star, Yakuza, Musou, Miku, Persona, Tales.
Unless I'm mistaken, the big difference between the PSP and the Vita seems to be in those big titles. Monster Hunter has moved elsewhere. Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid don't seem to have a future in dedicated handhelds at all - maybe Kingdom Hearts too,

Given we have the first month retail indication in the US at something like 3-5K (from creamsugar), I don't see how it would have gotten to 20K. I'd assume the digital sales ratio was just higher.
Using historical sales, NSMB is bigger than all those franchises bar Mario Kart.
And Smash Bros is going to be on 3DS, so I imagine that will mute it's impact a lot in Japan as well.

I don't expect the Vita to do as well as the PSP at all, if anything it will be lucky if it sold even 1/4 of the PSP sold in its lifetime. I do think that it has a chance at outperforming the Wii U though (in Japan at least).

Zelda is not really comparable since there was no 3d episode/remake on the DS.
Mario Kart was one of the franchises that really benefited from the DS expanded audience like I pointed out earlier, much like NSMB.
Fire Emblem and Luigi's Mansion are other recent successes in the west.
Now that it performed so poorly, we can downplay it instead of talking it up!

It’s quite amazing how every excuse in the book seems to be found to explain the low sales of the vita.
That one will actually be interesting to watch. I think the 2 versions will end up being way more different than we imagine, so I wonder how people will respond.

wiiu version could be the greatest game of all time and the 3ds version a smeared turd in a case and it would still be 10 to 1 in 3ds favor.

I wouldnt even count FFX as really a big game.
Freedom Wars is coming in the first quarter of 2014, if I remember correctly.
Edit: Looking at it now, there's nothing apart from 2014 as a year.

well, I don't have any evidence to cite but I guess it's combination of lack of high profile releases on the Vita recently and the anticipation for MH4 (only 2 weeks before MH4 release vita fell below 10k).
I think at that time no one want to buy a Vita when MH4 is releasing soon, getting into MH grinding simply means you won't have time for other games or a new console. Saving for 3DS & MH and following the crowd is more compelling than a Vita with zero attractiveness.
and no the vita won't have a break with the new 2000 release even after MH4 storm, there is a bigger Pokemon storm incoming.
