I don't know, cause of the heat wave or something ;P

well, I don't have any evidence to cite but I guess it's combination of lack of high profile releases on the Vita recently and the anticipation for MH4 (only 2 weeks before MH4 release vita fell below 10k).

I think at that time no one want to buy a Vita when MH4 is releasing soon, getting into MH grinding simply means you won't have time for other games or a new console. Saving for 3DS & MH and following the crowd is more compelling than a Vita with zero attractiveness.

and no the vita won't have a break with the new 2000 release even after MH4 storm, there is a bigger Pokemon storm incoming.
Is the new model even that much of an attractive propersition? I know its lighter and there are new colours but its the same price as the original. Are people really holding out for that?

[B]*Note: FY 2013 refers to the period from April 2013 through March 2014[/B]
For the people who aren't regulars in Media Create threads:

What is Dengeki?
Dengeki is a website (it's also a brand of magazines / a book and manga imprint) that publishes sell-through Japanese sales data from ASCII Media Works, Inc. Every week they publish a nationwide snapshot of Japanese video game sales with the cooperation of more than 3,000 specialty game stores and convenience store chains all across Japan.

Why post Dengeki numbers when you have Media Create / Famitsu in the OP?
Among other reasons, Dengeki gives us sales numbers for titles that are too low to debut with numbers on Media Create / Famitsu. So, their liberal reporting allows us to track sales that we wouldn't be able to otherwise.

Is Dengeki less accurate than Media Create / Famitsu?
No. All three trackers are inherently trustworthy. However, they have quirks that make some people prefer one over the others:

Media Create:
+ Nationwide Japanese sales data from Media Create Co., Ltd.
+ Tracks more than 3,000 retail stores / chains
+ Top 20 software sales with numbers
+ Top 50 software sales without numbers
+ Total hardware sales per platform
+ Sometimes presents sell-through figures
+ Releases first (at the same time as Famitsu)
+ Nintendo uses these numbers in their investor presentations
+ Distinguishes between 3DS and 3DS LL
- Does not track download cards
- Does not provide software sales figures past the Top 20

Famitsu:
+ Nationwide Japanese sales data from Enterbrain, Inc.
+ Tracks about 3,600 retail stores / chains
+ Top 30 software sales with numbers
+ Total hardware sales per platform
+ Sell-through ranges for all titles
+ Has the most historical data available for GAFfers
+ Tracks download cards
+ Releases first (at the same time as Media Create)
- Does not distinguish between 3DS and 3DS LL
- Does not report total software sales

Dengeki:
+ Nationwide Japanese sales data from ASCII Media Works, Inc.
+ Tracks more than 3,000 retail stores / chains
+ Top 50 software sales with numbers
+ Top 3 software sales per platform
+ Total software sales per platform
+ Total hardware sales per platform
+ Sell-through figures for a few titles
+ Distinguishes between 3DS and 3DS LL
- Inconsistent data reporting over the years
- Does not track download cards
- Releases nearly 24 hours after Media Create / Famitsu

That's what I thought. Do you really not realize how you took that line out of context?

Let's sum up:

1) People argue Wii U has a higher chance at outselling the Vita when all is said and done.
2) Someone says no, it's the Vita that has higher chances.
3) Another person replies, you didn't explain why.
4) You come in and say, look at this week, software sells on the Vita and not on the Wii U.
5) I say, notice how that same week shows the software that sold very well did not actually boost the Vita at all, and also the first-year line-up for the Wii U was a terrible strategy commercially and I always thought it was, but that looking at the future line up, the Wii U's bigger titles will sell considerably more AND will sell a lot of systems, and that's why I think Wii U has higher chances of outselling the Vita.
6) Then you come back and give me a list of the performance of PAST titles, even though I specifically mentioned that the Wii U's first-year line-up was rubbish and that I'm using the FUTURE line-up of the Wii U to explain why I think the Wii U will outsell it.
7) You come back and say, but you said I took one week out of all of them to make the Wii U look bad, when the truth is the Wii U has had way poorer sales than the Vita (kinda funny also that Wii U has been on the market for half the time).
8) I said no I didn't.
9) You took a sentence out of the context of my post and my argument, as if you hadn't actually read the post.

What's more, with that list of yours you actually backed up my original point: Sen no Kiseki, while niche in the grand scheme of things, is definitely a good success on the Vita as it is up there in the system's highest first weeks. Your list shows only four titles had a higher first week than Sen no Kiseki. So the Vita, presently, sold 6k on its fifth biggest software opening week.

Using historical sales, NSMB is bigger than all those franchises bar Mario Kart.
It's also a launch title. Quoting from the other thread about a potential 3D World turn-around:
I really think people are looking at NSMBU the wrong way. Are you guys surprised it's not on the way to sell 25 million units? It's a game that was released on an install base of zero. This is nothing like the conditions in which NSMB DS and Wii launched.

Call of Duty sells like, what, 20, 25 million copies on PS360? You think if COD Ghosts released on just the Xbone and PS4 this holiday, it would have sold anywhere remotely close to 20 million by this point next year?

If you want some turn-around games, you're gonna have to look at the successive launches of huge titles each releasing on a bigger and bigger install base. It starts with 3D World, then Mario & Sonic Olympics, then Donkey Kong, then Mario Kart, then Smash Bros., Yoshi will be in there somewhere. Who knows what Wii Party U will sell, but I expect it to perform relatively well.

You don't look at a launch title for these kinds of things. Nintendogs + Cats didn't turn around the 3DS either. It was 3D Land, then Mario Kart, then Monster Hunter, then Animal Crossing and so on.
As for Smash Bros., they're pushing the Wii U version hard, it's a different game, both games have been hinted at releasing at different times, and it's overall a series that succeeds largely on the back of it being a great party game. People are gonna want to have a Smash Bros. on a home console (as well), especially considering it's a different game. I'm certainly not denying that the 3DS version will hurt the Wii U version and vice versa, but I still believe it will be a strong title and a strong system-seller. Remember, I'm not saying the Wii U will go on to be a great success, all I'm saying is I think that the Wii U will at least outsell the GameCube in Japan and worldwide even though it hasn't looked that way this year. I also think it will outsell the Vita, but, like somebody else said, that might actually depend on which will be kept on the market longer.

It's also a launch title.
so was mario 64 which no wiiu game will ever match the sales of

all I'm saying is I think that the Wii U will at least outsell the GameCube in Japan and worldwide
absolutely 0% chance for worldwide, its already a million behind in the us alone

actually like 900k but wont be long for a mill and considering the gamecube has a decent holiday coming up when comparing sales periods and the wiiu doesn't it probably wont be all that long before its 2 mill behind in the us. Probably mid 2014.

3D World will start the turnaround of Wii U? Now that's something I want to see because I'm expecting it to be the worst selling 3D Mario.

I don't think the trailer will change much, actually. 3D Land may have been more popular in Japan, but it's also because it was on a soon-to-be-popular console with a bright future (and Mario kart 7 + a Monster Hunter game coming soon)... something the Wii U don't have this time around.

The only Mario game that could start a turn-around (and by that, I mean more than just some sales bumps) would be Mario Kart 8.

The new trailer makes me wonder if it can capture a sizable amount of enthusiast gamers. Should have (at least) 2 commercials, showcasing single-player hardcore focused stuff and multiplayer for the families. However as I said before I wonder if getting NSMBU in the bundle will lessen the appeal for the later group.

In any case, being the worst selling 3D Mario is a definite possibility.

Japan knew about them before even being announced...amazing.
Care to explain why the sales were low before the new model and vita tv were even announced?

It’s quite amazing how every excuse in the book seems to be found to explain the low sales of the vita.
I dont see whats amazing with saying that knowing that the VitaTV and Vita-2000 is comming out soon, that this has some effect on the current Vita hardware sales.

I think they're simply arguing that - given the sales before the announcement - said effect is difficult to determine and potentially even miniscule. Obviously their announcement had some influence, but to what extent is not possible for us to tell.
That might be, but the guy that they quoted didnt mention any specific numbers though. He could simply be referring to the more recent ~5k Vita hardware numbers. That is why i was wondering what was so amazing with his claim =)

3D World is going to be great, so it will undoubtedly bring the existing "Nintendo core" onboard. I think it may raise the baseline a bit. But as for a turnaround, I just don't see it happening.

Sunshine with 789,989 units
Thanks. I personally expect 3D World to do better than that. Sunshine was... Sunshine. Not that it wasn't a good game, but some propositions are more appealing than others, and I think 3D World is the more appealing one.

I don't. GCN at almost 1.5 times the userbase the WiiU has right now when it released and its software sales were also much much more promising. Heck has NSMBU even sold that much?

I take it you've never seen the new ND trailer.
The new trailer will do nothing for its sales but if you want to talk for hype for me it's not even close to the feeling when I first saw 64, Sunshine or Galaxy.

If someone said before Wii U launch that NSMBU would struggle to sell 1 million in Japan everyone including me would call him crazy.

I want to see when the remaining believers will finally realize the real situation of Nintendo's home console is and stop expect miracles every time a new title is released.

To go even further Smash and Mario Kart are very likely to become the worst selling entries too.

The black hole of sales hype

I've come to terms with it. When Chris says sales for this game is gonna suck, they usually end up sucking :(

Chris is like the Derrick01 of sales lol
Its only common sense that Nintendo's worst selling console will likely have the worst selling entries of certain franchises. Its all due to userbase.

If SM3D wants to beat Sunshine it would have to have an attach rate of 60-70% (being generous with the new WiiU sales here) something a notably stronger IP (NSMBU) couldn't even do.

Serious why do some many people like to hype Nintendo Directs in terms of effective advertising. It is literally the worst way to advertise anything since its basically preaching the choir, most of the people that watch it have a Wii U already and planed to buy the game already.

The way Nintendo does advertising now, neither will most consumers.
That isn't fair. The trailer has as much exposure as you would expect any pre-release trailer to have -- perhaps more. It is linked and/or embedded on all the major gaming sites, it's on both eShops, and it's on Nintendo's Youtube channel and social media sites.

This isn't "advertising", it's just the standard preview cycle. Whether they do proper advertising in the form of TV commercials, outdoor ads, etc. will remain to be seen, but the trailer is a different beast.

absolutely 0% chance for worldwide, its already a million behind in the us alone

actually like 900k but wont be long for a mill and considering the gamecube has a decent holiday coming up when comparing sales periods and the wiiu doesn't it probably wont be all that long before its 2 mill behind in the us. Probably mid 2014.
To bring home the point - since some people really don't seem to realise just how bad this system is selling - the PS Vita will essentially match the Wii U in launch aligned cumulative US sales after the next NPD reporting period.

It's just a press release that contains a bunch of trailers at once. It shows everyone what the game is. It talks about what the game is. And is easy to access.

They also have the press playing the games occasionally, so they report on the ND and post their impressions on the games.

I don't see how that is bad at all. It doesn't replace actual advertising like TV commercials, posters on walls, public events, and etc.

Honestly both consoles are basically dead now, with no chance of a turnaround at all. I used to think during the summer that the Vita baseline could stabilise at 15k which would give it at least a niche status but thats wholly unrealistic now. Mh4 stole Vitas userbase, which should have been predictable since vitas audience was built on mh clones. The only saving grace for Vita is that the attach rate seems to be quite high, so at least the software sells.

It releases next month. Now is the time to start building consumer awareness, not weeks before the game ships. You're missing my larger point in lieu of the technicality of it; the trailer isn't meant for advertising per se due to length and whatnot, sure. But a sizzle reel of the 15 best seconds followed by a picture of the WWHD bundle and price would be perfect for making people aware of it.

The chances of us seeing that, given part history, is slim.

No I wasn't missing your larger point at all, as I made it quite clear that whether they do proper advertising remains to be seen (in other words, they haven't done it yet). You were referring to the trailer's visibility, and it has as much of it as you would expect of any pre-release trailer.

Basically you were using this example to make an unrelated point.

And in 2 more months Wii U will be ahead again. This is more due to the nature of their launch dates being 4 months apart, meaning next NPD reporting period is Wii U's September versus Vita's December. Wii U will jump ahead again after it's own coming holiday push.

Both systems are doing terribly to this point but on the whole Wii U has done a little better in the US which your statistic sort of clouds.

I'm aware that the launch doesn't align. I don't think it's a necessarily unfair comparison, though, considering within the eleven month period both will have one holiday period.

Outside of having the advantage of that first holiday the Wii U hasn't been doing better in the US.
Code:
	WIU	PSV
April	37,000	70,000
May	33,000	50,000
June	42,000	75,000
July	29,000	50,000
August	31,000	33,000
EDIT: launch aligned calendar month sales.

And frankly selling marginally better than the Vita would still be a failure. Tl;dr version, it is keeping company with a dead system; outselling the GCN worldwide, at this stage is a very lofty goal.

I don't even expect 3D World to break 600k and would be pleasantly surprised if it managed to do better than NSMBU. I agree that Smash 3DS is going to have negative impact in Japan on the Wii U version. MK is a wildcard, but it 95% sure it becomes the worst selling console entry. I wonder if 3D World will have a 200k opening in December.

Galaxy only sold a million on the Wii lifetime, it only opened at 250K on a 3.7M installed base. NSMBU hasn't even broken 600K yet (ghost of Laguna is probably crying) coming down from the 4.5M the franchise did on the Wii.

What will the Wii U's Japanese installed base be come 3DW? 1.2M maybe at best?

So I think that would be an optimistic hypothetical.
