New PS4 Commercial During Monday Night Football (ESPN)

haha, no I was just using your reaction as an illustration of why this ad works. Getting an audience to feel the way you did means the creative people did a great job. I felt the same way after watching it btw.

Gotcha. Even my coworker was smiling when I've showed it to him. I then told him - smiling "I can't wait to kill you on the battlefield." Laughter.

Not their best. This one is more epic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOdW1OuZ1U0

Whoa!

Thought it felt very familiar and a bit stale. I was thinking Sony might up their game a little this time around but it has that same comfort/complacency feeling they gave out with the PS3 launch.

Not impressed with that. A million miles away from the genuinely decent ones they did for the PS2.

I wouldn't say those song choices are particularly smart. You could choose any song, cut the trailer to it, and get a similar result.

Power re-entered the charts over a year after release because of the Forza advert, and the IE9 ad was the making of Too Close's success.

You're downplaying how much they resonated with the audience. If you "could choose any song, cut the trailer to it, and get a similar result" we'd be about to see a surge of sales for A Perfect Day, because this ad is cut to that.

don't know. For the audience it kind of doesn't really matter does it? It's just a couple of guys in a fantasy setting fighting with swords. Gets the 'game of thrones' kind of setting out there, then switches to racing, then to shooters.

That's the first PS4 ad I've found annoying. It's probably because it concentrates on people, and I usually find those with people in the front to be cringeworthy. I prefer games, neat graphics, quirky ideas, heck even crying baby dolls over people. It's somewhat sad to see the good old weird Sony being seemingly a thing of the past, but I guess they need to sell their stuff so even the masses can understand the message.

Great Ad! :)
Love it!

Two mates battling it out gaming, knowing at the end of the day, their friendship will always come out on top.

Eh...Sony has some of the worst ads as of late. This one is really corny.

Is Richard III Act 1 Scene 2 Lines 208-10 also corny?

This is a good ad. Much better than MS's concept of (something like) "the cloud will allow us to beta test this console, uh, in the future eventually - you will be the tester and you will become one with the cloud".

Sony has a new ad agency now. No more "buy this console because babies have diarrhea" ads. Maybe MS is throwing that abandoned ad agency a "bone".

What I haven't figured out is where are the MS ads? Didn't they have like 300m on marketing? I've seen the NFL ad a couple times and thats it.

MS ads are all over the Internet, even on anime sites.

This is a brilliant ad. It's memorable and has a simple message "friends have fun on PS4". It also shows amazing taste in music. Velvet Underground for life...and yes, I know it's post-VU.

The Taco Bell and Assassin's Creed ads are also amazingly effective for different reasons. I'd say they are killing it across the board.

Maybe I've been in the advertising business too long, but this complaint seriously BAFFLES me.

You can say a lot about the ad, but you can't honestly say it was "pointless."

It hit some really hard points, and hit them quite hard:
1) The experience of having fun gaming with a friend. Long the competition's biggest advantage, this commercial goes right after the idea that has made XBL so popular.

2) The games. ESO, DriveClub, Killzone are pretty clearly represented as fun games you'll want to play with your friends. You have a variety of experiences to choose from.

3) The Tag Line. "Greatness Awaits" is going to be a huge Part of the brand identity going forward.

4) The product. PS4. (obviously)

5) The launch date. The put it right there on the screen.

So that's five massive points being presented in the ad, in a fairly concise, yet fun fashion. The point of playing with friends and trying to show the concept of "fun" is the most complex messaging challenge for the advertisers here--"we've got the multiplayer gaming experiences you want, and it's fun"--and it's presented well, with style and humor, and the tag line and launch date info "puts a bow on it" at the end.

You're right. Pointless was definitely not the right word. It had a point (or points, as you laid out). I just didn't see it as compelling, at all, and was surprised so many others loved it so much.

That's not a good ad. It actually proves my point. Axe commercials tend to boil down to, "Beautiful women will fuck you if you spray this rubbing alcohol smelling product on you." That other ad that I posted actually had some taste and intelligence behind it. It was something that everyone can universally relate to: unrequited love.

Oh I agree, artistically it's shit. But it's a body spray mostly used by teens I'll wager, and I have to think that the one with the boobies resonated more with that audience.

Started out incredibly slow and not enough material for 60 seconds, could have easily been compressed to 30 and would be better. The ending music is nice.
Also I'm glad they were walking in the Killzone section, representing the slow speed and pace of gameplay for that series opposed to COD :)

I'm surprised some aren't seen the message here though. It shows how much fun you will be having playing with your friend in this "perfect day" of playing several PS4 games. It kind of replicates what would be happening when you're playing online. You will be fighting online in TES Online, bumping each other in DC, or shooting each other in KZ. All the while having a ton of fun.

It succeeds greatly in capturing that innate fun while playing online with friends and having a good time.

This was a waste of Ad money

Glad you don't work for an ad agency.
