Anyone playing Pro Strategy Football 13? Saw that it got a Universal update, and thinking about picking it up. Impressions?
It's excellent.
I'm playing it non-stop at the moment as I joined a mini tourney on Pocket Tactics as well as games with my family.
It's got lots of help built in which is very useful for noobs like me. (My only experience of American Football is playing Madden on the megadrive and watching the odd Super Bowl).

Ah cool, there's online multiplayer too? I figured you just play seasons offline. Is there a league / playoff system for online play, or are you guys just handling that stuff outside of the game? Sounds fun either way.

Someone's doing a challonge page, with random teams each round.
It's async with GameCenter - I'm in a game with the dev so he's getting lots of feedback :p
I love the animated plays. Terrible when watching a 95yd kick return go against you though.
Edit: here's the link if anyone's interested

Cool, I'll pick it up and we'll get a game going once I get the hang of it.

I wonder if we can get enough people together between Pocket Tactics and NeoGAF to get an actual season going? That sounds like a ton of fun.

Dungeon Keeper has been soft launched on the Canadian appstore:

Could have been a glorious day for the platform.

Not actually that important
Wasn't that a an android phone in the video? Yeah I'd say they will correct it. The entire framreate is choppy as hell. In fairness, SE games on iOS dont feel as half-arsed like Capcom's Sega's or Namco's releases. I forgot about the battery O_O but then again, the geometry in this game is pretty basic. I hope the asking price won't be around 20 euro. The game should be a tenner really.

Oh, I mistaken that phone for a 5s, lol.
Btw, you can rest assured the game won't launch at anything less than 17€.

Saw the Multi/Android Humble Bundle 7, I was wondering if you guys had played Anodyne Mobile on iOS?
Would you recommend it judging it for its own merits (and not because it fills on some kind of void)?

I would pick it up and play in a league if one was forming.

Just found this while browsing r/playmygame on Reddit. It's really fun and challenging. It has the twitchy reflex testing gameplay that so many people here love with a color matching twist and a nice minimalist design. It's free so definitely give this a try

Actually, basing off 20 minutes of playing, that boost is what you get for "slapping" your minions. Slapping them will make them go faster for X time.

Yeah it is (although you don't get that long unless you seriously upgrade).

However everything else is gems, gems, gems. Within 10 minutes I'm all out of them. Digging out those squares, which initially takes seconds now asks for 4 hours a piece as you get outside of the centre of the map.

Whilst that $110 gem pack looks attractive, I think I'll just pass instead. It is actually a shame, because it feels like a really well put together package. The graphics are nice, it performs well on an ipad 2 and there looks like a lot of content to pay for.

If people do like IAP and games with this model such as the gameloft titles (my little pony and the like), it is probably well recommended.

Say I wanted to create a Canadian account, to get Dungeon Keeper early.. What would be the best way of doing that? Same goes for countries like New Zealand and Japan.

Maybe a guide for that would be neat to put in the OP. :)

Yeah, can add that as a FAQ Q/A. It's very simple

  1. Use iTunes, go to the country store you want to create an account with
  2. Try and buy a Free app
  3. Create the account, Google an appropriate address in the country to use as your Billing details
  4. Select "None" as payment method
  5. Verify the email after account creation.
That's it.

I think Heroes of Dragon Age is also soft-launching in Canada. This game: http://toucharcade.com/tag/heroes-of-dragon-age/

Does it still do that thing where you have to sign in to that fake account to download updates?

As far as I am aware, only if its for an app that doesn't exist on the App Store of the ID you're logged into at that moment. Otherwise updates appear regardless of what ID you have signed in.

Another game which just came out today and is free is Fist of Awesome. http://fistofawesome.com/ (trailer here)

It's has an awesome sense of humour coupled with it's art style and controls really nicely. Not to mention an absolutely excellent chip tune soundtrack, and gratuitous bear nudity.

Appstore: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id701415127

This is $3.99 now, I just did a bit of reading up on the release and it turns out that TouchArcade have been acting like monumental cunts. Not for the first time.

Cheers. It's a minor thing but it was always enough of a hassle to mean I couldn't be bothered to get stuff outside of the UK. It's why I still am not playing Puzzle&Dragons, the bastards.

Awesome, didn't know it was that simple :)

If you want Japanese iTunes cards I'm your man. I just request payment via PayPal- no mark up or anything.

Good to know, will keep you in mind.

When RR3 came out I had it from the NZ store but was unable to update it months after even when the game was out in the UK on my main account, it might vary per title but it never worked for me.

Yeah I saw the price change via Appshopper, turns out it was only free for launch day. It's still a very funny brawler, but I'm not sure yet if I can rec. it at that price, haven't delved too deep into it yet.
What did TA do?

It was never supposed to be free, the dev released it in secret and set it to free so that the Kickstarter backers and selected members of the press could download it, and sent an email to that effect to those people. The plan was to set it to $3.99 a couple of days later for the "official release date."

TouchArcade get the email and immediately post "HEY GUYS CHECK OUT THIS FREE GAME!!!!" on their homepage.

Oh right, that's a bummer. But why would the developer handle it that way, just get promo codes issued from Apple.. I myself spotted the app via my Appshopper feed.

Ouch, pretty unfortunate for them but also a dangerous way to go about it since there are sites that automatically showcase new releases like Tunesmith mentioned. I downloaded it for free when Tune posted it yesterday, haven't checked it out yet but I'll make sure to rate it when I do.

Been playing it some more during lunch, and it seems to be a winner whether you got it for free or not. A Final Fight-esque game with Envirobear humour. I'm not sure about longetivity of course but maybe an OP contender tbh, presentation and overall package is top notch. It can get fairly repetitive, particularly before you upgrade your powers, but I suppose that's part of the brawler genre.

So does fist of awesome get any more depth or variety? Feel like each level is roughly the same with enemies and bosses that all behave quite similarly.

I read that as the dev wanted to avoid paying Apple for promo codes.

Apple doesn't charge for promo codes, but they limit the amount to 50 per version of the app. E.g. you get the option of receiving 50 more if you update the app. In theory you can issue incremental nonsense upates to your app and retrieve 50 promo codes each time. The codes are themselves valid for 4 weeks and it doesn't matter what version of the app is in the store when redeemed. This tactic is obviously a bit sketchy and Apple will probably frown upon you for doing that.

As an alternative Apple can also issue larger bulks if you present a proper business case for it, your mileage as a developer may vary there of course.

Huh? You get 50 promo codes per update/submission of your app. After those 50 you can buy any amount of promo codes at the apple cut of 30%...

Good, I hope they lost a ton.. Sounds mean to say, but really.. 50 free codes plus only $1.20 per code after that, that I'm SURE they "charged" way more than that for any tier that included a copy of the game. Even at 2000 backers that's less than $2400 they have to pay to fulfill.

Pretty bullshit TBH.

As an alternative Apple can also issue larger bulks if you present a proper business case for it, your mileage as a developer may vary there of course.
Any developer can purchase an unlimited amount of promo codes from apple directly. You pay apple's 30% cut, and ONLY the developer/company can do this.

So, any Device 6 impressions yet?
Is anyone making an OT for it, by the way? I feel like it deserves one.

Castaway Paradise guy, just FYI: getting a little spammy at this point.

If you've got news to post, by all means... but just repeatedly posting huge screenshots of your game when no one seems all that interested...

Has anyone tried Dead Man's Draw?

If so, opinions?

It's pretty cool. Starts off pretty basic where you're pulling cards off the deck and if 2 match suits then you bust and lose them all. Pretty quickly you unlock the cards special abilities, so pulling a cannon lets you discard one of your opponents cars, a hook lets you play one of your own cards, getting both a key and chest will let you collect an equal number of cards from the discard pile, etc. You can then come up with cool combos where you pull a hook, so you play your sword to steal a cannon from your opponent thereby taking two cards from him instead of one.

The game is broken up into small tournaments against AI and each one can have special rules like all collected cards (instead of just the highest per suit) counts for your score. That keeps things interesting and there are a TON of tournaments.

The only thing I'm not big on are the traits feature. Traits give you special abilities, but they have limited uses and you need to buy them with gold. I can see getting into a situation where you need to grind out matches to earn enough gold to buy some trait to help you actually win some matches. Though so far even if my opponent has a special trait I have been able to beat them without using one myself.

Long story short, its cool. Card powers give it just enough of a twist to keep things interesting. Perfect game to play when you have a few minutes to kill.

Yep, simple yet fun cardgame.

You play vs AI, there's a deck of cards from 1-7 in different colors and you take turns in grabbing cards from the deck. When the deck is gone the player with the highest score wins.

When you grab a card from the deck in a color you already got in that turn, you lose the cards from that turn. Also some colors have a special ability like 'steal a card from your opponent'

Edit: yeah, as the person above me said lol

Can't wait for it to show up on the BR store. Was listening to the OST samples on their blog earlier today, dat Daniel Olsén music.

I can't wait to get Device 6, put headphones on and be lost in Simogo's new world.

Tempted to stay up all night.

I gave Tiny Death Star a shot, thanks to my all new Australian identity.

It's Tiny Tower, but a lot more refined. The overall gameplay still feels very similar to the original game, where you build floors, get more citize– ehh bitizens and make workplaces for them. The changes come into play with the new special Imperial floors. I have an interrogation room now, which allows me to earn a bit more cash. The added cutscenes are really nifty and the art style just works with this universe. Feels much more natural than just regular old people actually. Darth Vader looks great and I've seen quite a few characters from the movies come by already.

While this kind of game normally doesn't attract me that much, mostly thanks to the heavy reliance on in app purchases and timerbased gameplay. Let's see how long I'll stick around this time :)
