GTA IV VS GTA V console frame rate

So I went back to gta iv since I let a friend borrow gta v and I can't help but notice the framerate in IV is way smoother. Seems 30 or more compared to V although Vs graphics are way more polished. So if IV is running at 30 with blur, is V lower or is it simply the blur that makes the difference?

I haven't played the game, but these opinions vary greatly from the launch impressions claiming an almost perfect 30fps. Launch hype is always deceiving. I will wait for a next gen port.

360? PS3's V framerates seems a lot better than IV's

I've played 100+ hours of both games.
The game is smoother than GTAIV. I'm not sure what OP is talking about.

E: I'm on 360.

One of the first things I noticed after I started playing V for a while was, wow, this frame rate is buttery smooth. One of the things I never liked about IV was how choppy the frame rate was. PS3 here.

As a PC-only player of GTA games, I bought GTA IV for the PS3 at launch and found the framerate atrocious.

There is no feasible way at all that GTA V, a game I have not played, could be worse than GTA IV on the PS3.

I dunno if any comparisons noted this, but pop-ins in GTA5 are noticeably worse on 360 than PS3, even with the optimal install setup on a brand new 360E. Was at a friends house over the weekend and he was doing the stunt jumps on the 360. He was wiping out on last second indestructible objects popping out of no where. I didn't have any of these issues on the PS3. I also noticed bushed slowly fazed in to view on the PS3 whereas on the 360 just pops-in abruptly.

GTA5 framerate is vastlyimproved compared to the POS GTA4 which would feel like it'd was pretty to dip into the single digits at some points. GTA V is a huge improvement and at worst, it'll dip to 20-22 for me.

I can't believe the first couple of posters in this thread.

I played GTAIV just before AND after playing GTAV. IV is a blurry, framey mess and even drops frames when you're inside buildings. Shooting with an automated gun drops the frames immediately - and the entire Liberty City is the blurriest piece of shit in existance. I literally felt ill after have played it for 30 mins after I beat GTAV.

This too but I find Liberty City to be more dense than Los Santos.

The complete edition fixed a bit of the blurriness. It's sharper compared to the vanilla version though it it doesn't upscale to 1080p automatically and has frequent texture pop ins of buildings.

...and GTA 5 also has a blurry FXAA filter over the graphics, which gives the game a very soft look. Red Dead and GTA 4 look a lot sharper and clearer in comparison.

Are you talking about the Episodes? Because GTAIV had a very weird vaseline filter when it came out.
You can see it in the screenshots on IGN and the likes, too.

Console is probably important here.

I played GTA4 and 5 on the PS3. Without being scientific, I never really noticed the frame rate in 5, it seemed good enough. In 4 however it was a frequent issue.

I don't know, I think I disagree with this strongly. The framerate on GTA IV, particularly during the night city scenes, felt troublesome and almost unplayable at times, and I had it for the 360. GTA V's framerate in all conditions so far is much better, but then maybe it's because I didn't get to specific missions yet.

The framerate on IV was more consistently bad.

GTA V chokes in the city or when multiple explosions are going off, but otherwise it is a lot more solid.

GTAV is pretty bad in some places. I turn off my flashlight on my gun to improve framerates.

I'd call GTA4's framerate nearly unplayable. In fact I did stop playing because of it. Made driving a chore. GTA5 isnt perfect but its always playable.

GTA V dropped frames on explosions and heavy gunfights but other than that, it was fine to me. Pop-in's were annoying and my PS3 (fat) ran like a fucking jet engine compared to TLoU.

GTA IV is so damn bad, I can't even sit through watching it.

I replayed 4 on 360 about 2 months ago and found it to be a lot worse than 5, was impressed at how solid 5 was for me considering how much of a stepup it is.

Yeah 4 at launch on PS3 was so low that I stopped playing 2/3 of the way through and waited for the PC version. GTA5 on the otherhand I am more than pleased with my decision to pick up the 360 version day one.

The PS3 version of GTA V is far superior to GTA IV when it comes to framerate. Also, it runs pretty damn good IMO, given everything going on graphically.

4 so bad I'd rather play 4 on my work laptop at 1024x768. At least I would have a stable 30fps and more with dips here and there.

This thread just goes to show how people see what frame-rate they want to. I've seen people this week describe GTAV frame-rate as like a "powerpoint presentation"

For me it runs pretty smooth.

The framerate of the PS3 version of GTAV is much better than the framerate of the PS3 version of GTAIV.

That still doesn't mean it has a very good framerate, though.

Why are there so many drastically different opinions on the framerates between these two games? GTA V's framerate is so much better than GTA IV's. The night scenes in the city in GTA IV were outrageously tough to play in at times. GTA V is so strong framerate wise so far.

Do people who have serious issues with GTA V's framerate have the 360 version or the PS3 version? Because so far it's pretty rock solid in the Xbox 360 version.

V PS3 had a much better framerate than IV PS3. V is fine, IV was awful.

I haven't played IV on 360 in years so I can't compare it to V, and I've never played V on 360.

The only advantage IV has is less aliasing.

Reminder that every bit of pre-release information on GTAV lauded the supposedly unfaltering 30fps,

and then it came out and was anything but.

GTA4's framerate tanked waaaaaaay more often than 5's though. 5 was a pretty big improvement. 360 here.
