Here's a 1080p vs 720p upscaled to 1080p example using COD:BO2 on PC:

Thats kinda looks like FXAA on and off

Edit: My mistake, I was sitting at a distance. Now I notice the jaggies.

Why do gaming nerds, with accounts on gaming websites, keep talking about the outside world. You're a dork, just like I am. We are here to discuss games, its what we do. COD is going to sell very well, doesn't mean that we all can't laugh if its true. Mainly, because I'll be treated with more entertaining PR spin and damage control regurgitated here.

Its been non stop christmas since the Xbone launch.

Hey, hey, hey, I take offense at being called a "dork".

In all seriousness, the reason I brought up the outside world is because I find this whole thing rather jading. I wonder, how many among gaffers, would notice any difference between upscaled and native 1080p without being foretold of this discrepancy, or w/o side by analysis on DF (which will happen) or pixel peeping?

This news is very underwhelming but I'd already decided I'm going to stick with PC for the start of next-gen and flip my Day One, Xbox One. Might pick one up again when the inevitable Titanfall bundle hits. No way a PS4 or Xbox One will compete with a 7970 overclocked especially if mantle catches on. If the Xbox One can't pull off COD at 1080p, it's worrying indeed.

What are you even saying?

I laughed waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to hard at this exchange.

Well going with 8GB DDR3 and 32MB ESRAM isn't exactly cheap either. Microsoft's decision to go with the DDR3 to ensure full multiple OS support meant they still had to fill the machine with parts to compensate for the lack of bandwidth (ESRAM).

But I don't think we know for sure how much their engineering solution costs without the Kinect.

Thanks for replying. So it's probably not fair to assume the parts were THAT much cheaper than PS4. Is ESRAM pretty expensive? Someone else made a good point about MS making profit on the HW too, which is true.

at least it's a game that I have no intention of ever buying

But the thing is if this is going to happen on this game ( and lets be honest, COD: G is probably the least next gen looking game AND a massive part of the XBOX brand) what does that say of other titles in the future...

the most troubling thing about this whole fallout is that it's painting sony achieving the bare minimum of what should be expected as some grand victory.

A $400 console that's more powerful than a $500 one? I'd say it's a pretty nice victory for consumers.

So the textures in Ryse are current gen? Really don't understand how a game that looks as bad as cod can have problems running even on the 360 or ps3. I mean if this rumor is true and it's because the x1 has issues, I will cancel my preorder and just enjoy my ps4. Hope it's not a hardware issue.

RYSE is NOT running Full-HD, its running 900p

720p/1080p is a massive difference that is very obvious to the naked eye.

I dont know what other people think but this story definately isnt about a victory, its about a failure.

What are you even saying?

That I'm not picking up the Xbox One Day One anymore, thought it made sense. This news is reaffirming my (recent) decision to not jump into it. Might have had some typos in the post, didn't reread it. I might still pick one up if there's Titanfall bundle sometime in the Fall or Holiday season 2014.

That game at only 720p? wow, i find that hard to believe. I guess it could happen given what must be a rushed launch game, the spec gap in the systems and IW isn't what they used to be but still. Of all the games to be 720 i wouldn't think its the game that hardly looks next-gen

But what about...

Call of Duty: Ghosts runs at 1080p and 60fps on Xbox One and PS4 Infinity Ward said
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-06-11-call-of-duty-ghosts-runs-at-1080p-and-60fps-on-xbox-one-and-ps4

Nowhere on there do infiinity ward say 1080p on next gen consoles, the specific quotes are not shown, we only have the reporters interpretation. For all we know they could have said "we've been playing it on console in the office at 1080/60 and it's great" and then assumptions were made from there.

Can you even begin to imagine the shitstorm that would follow if something like that happened?

I don't want to even think about it!

People either won't buy the game, or that they'll boycott Microsoft & the Xbox One altogether once they've find out about it.

And I'm positive that will be the last thing that Microsoft would want.

Alber Penello:

"People DO understand that Microsoft has some of the smartest graphics programmers IN THE WORLD. We CREATED DirectX, the standard API’s that everyone programs against. So while people laude Sony for their HW skills, do you really think we don’t know how to build a system optimized for maximizing graphics for programmers? Seriously? There is no way we’re giving up a 30%+ advantage to Sony. And ANYONE who has seen both systems running could say there are great looking games on both systems. If there was really huge performance difference – it would be obvious.

I get a ton of hate for saying this – but it’s been the same EVERY generation. Sony claims more power, they did it with Cell, they did it with Emotion Engine, and they are doing it again. And, in the end, games on our system looked the same or better.

I’m not saying they haven’t built a good system – I’m merely saying that anyone who wants to die on their sword over this 30%+ power advantage are going to be fighting an uphill battle over the next 10 years… "

I feel some of the games on the PS3 do look better than the best looking 360 games, though. Like The Last of Us.

EDIT: My opinion

HUD elements should maintain their crispness however since they're rendered at 1080p on top of the game.

Was this made by actually changing the resolution of the game, or by downscaling the 1080p image and then scaling it up again?

The difference in performance between these two graphics cards is not huge. 50% stronger graphics performance is actually not a lot. On PC it results in around 20% higher frame rates on average - NOT a 720p vs 1080p difference.

Graphics cards? Do you even know what you are talking about? Consoles don't have graphic cards. Also 50% means a lot when you are talking about low to midrange hardware.

For multi-console owners this blows. Nowhere to really talk about 180 games because I'm damn sure not going to an Xbox only site. Fugg that!

I had NO IDEA Shane was working at Playstation now.

He's always worked there. He's just getting paid now :p

I doubt this is true. But if it is, it bodes terribly for multi-platform Xbox One games in the future because COD: Ghosts is not exactly a graphical showcase to begin with.

Finding this hard to believe, I mean I'm no developer or anything but COD is just so basic that how can you not make it full HD? But LOL if this is true.
