Honestly find this a little too hard to believe.

Already been confirmed that the console is running much better looking games than Ghosts at 1080p. Not to mention if Crytek is getting 900p on Ryse and Double Helix is managing 720p/60FPS on Killer Instinct then there's no excuse for Infinity Ward not being able to surpass the both of those in terms of resolution and performance.

Really, if this is true, I think it says that there's some kind of issue between Microsoft and Infinity Ward than there is an issue with the hardware.

I mean, there's no doubt the PS4 is a stronger and more capable piece of hardware, but to this degree? I just don't buy it. Just seems too far outside the realm of plausibility.

Stop being ridiculous. All indications so far point to the PS4 being pretty much exactly this much more powerful: In fact, many predicted this exact resolution split months ago.

Killer Instinct is not a graphical powerhouse by any means, them only achieving 720p60 on that game should worry you as well.

Stuff like this is why Nintendo doesn't participate in the traditional console race anymore. MS gonna get Gamecube'd whether they like it or not. Oh well, they decided to add Kinect over extra power, a cheaper innovation or a lower price. This is the path they chose.

I'm just gonna laugh my ass off. Next gen wars will leave our gaming world a barren wasteland no matter who "wins".

You really think the X1 is going to perform on par with the Gamecube? Is that just hyperbole or are you serious? Becasue If the X1 is on track to sell as much as the Gamecube (which is highly doubtful) where does that leave the WiiU?

They never officially will. I write articles for companies to post on Facebook and blogs and I get NDA'ed to hell and back, can't imagine how tight it would be for those with information that could cause a shit storm.

Wow... really? Well... we're about 3 weeks from finding out one way or the either. So I figured they might spill the beans.

Probably been pointed out already, but you can't just do an apples to apples comparison of hardware performance between Windows PC games developed to run a wide variety of hardware through DirectX and games developed for consoles.

But both the PC and Xbox One are running on DX11

As much as this is true, the other games we're getting a basis from there are all XB1 exclusives.

For multiplatform games it may set another precedent, as I said previously NFS Rivals was noticably absent recently when the game was shown off on PC/PS4 and DICE refuse to comment on resolutions for BF4 on any of the next gen systems.

At this point I'd say what Forza 5 is there showcase game graphically then? It's the only one I can think of we know is 1080p60

Console war has changed

It's not about developers, or video games.

It's an endless series of proxy flame wars about irrelevant details,
fought by internet fanboys and PR employees.

Console war, and its vast consumption of human time,
has become a rational, well-oiled business transaction from ad revenues.

Console war has changed.

Mountain Dew inside their bodies
enhance and regulate their actions.

Everything is monitored, and kept under control.

Console war has changed.

The age of deterrence is now the age of control,
averting catastrophe from surveillance tools such as Kinect.

And he who controls the living room, controls history.

Console war has changed.

When the living room is under total control,

war becomes routine.

The power gap is HUGE....we have said it before, signs started to appear way before this...X1 is NOT capable of handling FULL-HD games without huge compromises.

EDIT: Esram is not ideal to handle high textures @ 1080p it's just too small.

I keep asking this, because I genuinely don't know, but isn't Ryse 30 fps vs COD's 60? And Killer Instinct is doing what exactly that makes you think it's more impressive at 720p compared to COD? I haven't seen much footage of the game, but what I did see was a 1 vs 1 fighter with lots of particle effects.

Have they shown off something more impressive? COD is doing way more players at once in larger spaces that need to be visible from just about any perspective, rather than a fixed camera stage like KI has which just needs to be seen from essentially one.

Agree 100%

It just makes it even more confusing that Microsoft pay for timed exclusive DLC. How can IW not be able to get 1080p60 out of this thing?

Also, if true, what are the implications for the XBone if it is struggling to run games in 1080p at the start of this gen?

I thought one of the things CBOAT kept saying was that the Xbone had heating issues, either from ESRAM or the overclocking.

...I'll have to read that for myself. I can't believe they designed the system the way they did and it would have that specific issue. It seems if one thing should not happen, it's that.

Well if you give a major shit about resolution and want to fuss over stuff, definitely pretty major news,....... it's news, it's mildly significant too and indicative of the power difference in the consoles - but "pretty major" - only to a very small, very very VERY vocal minority.

Naturally, ANY news in the gaming world is not 'major' in the sense that it means 'serious.' It's gaming. But, as you can tell from how this news is blowing up, it's pretty major indeed in the context of a gaming community. This thread is moving at lightning speed, and only news which is "major" by gaming standards receives that sort of thing.

Similarly, the way things primarily sell is by word-of-mouth. Studies have been done on that forever. If this sort of consensus builds on such a major franchise being markedly inferior (even though it looks gross on PS4 too), or even if it's 720p across the board on next-gen, it's big news by gaming community standards.

If this is true, how the hell couldn't they get Ghosts to be 1080p when it doesn't even look next gen to begin with?

Well the xbox being weaker and much harder to work on doesn't take developer incompetence into account which only makes the problem worse. If you think this is bad just wait until Bethesda releases their next game.

I believed the gaf tech guys from day 1 :)

32mb too small!

If this is true, how the hell couldn't they get Ghosts to be 1080p when it doesn't even look next gen to begin with?

Probably because they needed to crank the game out for current gen consoles, AND meet the launch of BOTH next-gen consoles on hardware that was barely finalized 3-4 months ago. Oh and let's add immature dev tools into the mix for the new systems. It's the perfect recipe for the disaster we are potentially witnessing.

This is not about numbers. It's about reputation and word of mouth. Nintendo's gamecube was an efficient little powerhouse if we talk graphics and presentation. The Gamecube easily outdid the PS2 and nearly matched the OG Xbox which was a behemoth in comparison and it was still a "weak" and "kiddy console". I don't think Sony or MS could fuck up their console divisions so badly that they'd only sell 22 million consoles... unless Iwata were somehow in control lol.

It makes me question just how price sensitive they were.

True.

Now I won't state that any of this will affect the average customer (I have no idea), but things like this *do* affect the core/hardcore/self-identified/whatever gamer. So it'd be major news if true.
Tbh average consumers I know are aware of the 720p/1080p terminology. TVs are marketed like that in shops, so if word gets out it won't just be us lot who give a shit.
